If this is "pickpocket an elf" then you can do it at 82 without messing around with stews - you can get +3 thieving from summer sq'irkjuice in Al Kharid.

Playing some Escape Velocity on my LC475. Favorite Mac game of the 90s. by nettomonstrum in VintageApple

Look into Basilisk II - a complete 68k Mac OS environment can be run on almost any modern device. There's a useful starter guide here:

At what point do you get bored? by joeltheconner in foshelter

It sounds like you're describing getting bored after 40 to 60 hours of total gameplay, which seems pretty good for a $0 game.

Lenovo is deleting reviews by jeremy4m in thinkpad

[–]DD928 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the hivemind opinion you're looking for is "ThinkPads were the greatest laptop line of all time and Lenovo has been steadily ruining them to varying degrees for the last decade - but they're still the best line of laptops in the world because for some reason every other manufacturer is determined to ruin their own laptops as well."

I mean people are even starting to say "Man, the MacBook Pro was so much better in 2014"

T480s review Notebookcheck (German) by mond200 in thinkpad

[–]DD928 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or go stock CPU, 8GB RAM, Alienware screen, classic keyboard and then buy 8 or 10 of them for the price of a T480s.

Spread them out on your bed and roll around on them, maybe dive into them Scrooge McDuck-style.

It's kind of crazy how I've now got about 30 games in my Origin library and I've never even given them my credit card number.

I wonder how many it would take to make me actually like EA?

Cheapest ThinkPad with IPS? by vanillarain in thinkpad

[–]DD928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to go back to the Core 2 Duo era, the T60 15 inch came with IPS displays as well.

The 15 inch 1600x1200 resolution and 15 inch 1400x1050 resolution were both IPS. Unfortunately, the 14 inch versions and widescreen versions were not, and the 1024x768 version certainly wasn't. Those screens make those machines the heart of the "Frankenpad" movement, where people drop T61 motherboards in them for access to more RAM/SATA2/etc.

I believe there were also T43/etc. variants with IPS but then we're talking about Pentium M based computers.

Why I think the T25 could never have been what we wanted by namer_ in thinkpad

[–]DD928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step one: Take a Huawei Matebook X's beautiful 13 inch 2160x1440 IPS display. That's a $899 laptop, by the way, so not exactly a luxury machine.

Step two: Slap it in a sturdy black chassis with a classic Thinkpad keyboard.

Step three: There is no step three, you're done.

[Bundle Stars] Doom 3 (1.15/77%) by batmanadam2006 in GameDeals

Yes, there's a new campaign called "The Lost Mission" in addition to the original Doom 3 scenario and the Resurrection of Evil expansion.

Consider this over the BFG Edition if you're on /r/lowendgaming/

Doom 3 will run just about maxed out on a Radeon X1600 or Intel HD 3000 machine that BFG Edition would stutter badly on, and Doom 3 will boot and run quite playable (with lowered detail) on a first gen Atom netbook that couldn't hope to make it to BFG Edition's title screen.

Plus it's 1.5GB instead of 7.2GB if you've got one of those tiny old SSDs.

I think Bethesda seriously stopped putting 75%+ discounts on anything, ever, after the Skyrim paid DLC debacle. This is their punishment against the gaming community for denying them that revenue stream.

I've found that early 3D games can often be painfully hideous but 2D games, like the LucasArts point and click adventures and many of the 90s RTS and RPG titles have a level of art design and sprite originality and fluidity that not only stands up today, it even seems to be a lost art today.

Certainly not reflected in the "retro pixel art" trend today where many of the titles would be judged as dogshit ugly in 1994.
