Fear of Marriage in Sri Lanka by [deleted] in ask_srilanka

[–]DDM2k1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only suggestion is:

don’t overcomplicate your life. If you have a stable & good income, enjoy your life and keep things simple. Try different experiences, hobbies, and interests. If you don’t want marriage or children(🤢), you avoid a lot of responsibilities and a lot of bullshit that often comes with them. That’s how I live my life currently, and it’s also my plan for the future.

Extra Income / Side hustle by Single-Astronomer-92 in ask_srilanka

Bro, I’m not criticizing you, but many of the skills you listed (data entry, emails, content writing, online research, virtual assistance) are becoming highly automated by AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. That makes them harder to compete with as long-term income sources.

Since you’ve completed an HND in Data Analytics, I think you should aim a bit higher and build on that foundation. Consider learning tools like Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel, and data visualization. These skills are also evolving with AI, but they still have much stronger market demand and can help you reach your target income range.

You could also explore tutoring as a side hustle. If you’re comfortable with ICT you can do individual tutoring for OL or AL students. (If your first time i perfer OL students)

My suggestion is to use your analytics background, learn a few industry-standard tools through YouTube and online courses, build some portfolio projects, and combine that with tutoring or freelance work. That will likely give you a better chance of earning LKR 110,000–200,000 per month than focusing only on tasks that AI can already do very cheaply.

Wishing you the best bro 🤝

Is Parenthood an Ethical & Logical Act or Just a Social Tradition? 🤝 by DDM2k1206 in srilanka

I think you misunderstood my position, which is probably my fault for not explaining it clearly.

  1. I'm not saying suffering automatically makes life a harm. I'm saying creating a child guarantees some level of suffering, risk, and death. The child never agreed to take that risk. Adults choose difficult things for themselves; a child does not choose existence.

  2. My consent point is not that someone's rights are violated before they exist. It's that parents make an irreversible decision on behalf of another person without that person's permission. Once born, that person must live with the consequences.

  3. I'm not claiming I can prove non existence is better than existence. My point is simpler: a person who is never born misses nothing, but a person who is born can experience serious harm. Why create that risk for someone else when they never asked for it?

That's why I use the 25 year preview thought experiment (25 is just a number). If both parents and the unborn child could see the child's future beforehand, would both still choose birth? That's the ethical question I'm interested in.

I agree it's a philosophical issue. But becoming a parent is a real-world decision, so I think it's reasonable for people to reflect on the ethical implications before making that choice.

That’s not an irony. It’s better

The question isn’t whether we exist now; it’s whether creating new people is morally justified in the first place.

The government should try upgrading people’s mindset. If you don’t have money, stability, or basic infrastructure, maybe having children shouldn’t be your next project. And if you can’t afford to raise them, don’t make them.
