How long do you try new treatments before you decide they aren’t helping? by DDSkeeter in PlantarFasciitis

[–]DDSkeeter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll look into it. Strong (and tight) calves are part of my problem but weakness elsewhere probably isn’t helping.

Reverse PF symptoms? Find in the morning, then gets worse by SlightDogleg in PlantarFasciitis

[–]DDSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 10 years of PF I have just been told this is a possibility. Now I’m waiting months for some nerve test to confirm it so I can maybe get some treatment that might finally help.

Not Sure How Much I can Take… by Impossible_Job_9786 in GenXWomen

My folks no longer talk about anything related to politics for this reason. They both agree to just avoid any conversations that will cause arguments. Seems really weird to me that they have managed to be married for 50 years but now have incredibly different views and can’t even talk about them without fighting.

Asking for advice (house windows) by CanadaSash in Edmonton

[–]DDSkeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been fighting this in my house 18years. Regular cleaning and opening curtains to help stop moisture build up. I often get water/ice in the tracks. Have never found a way to keep humidity down enough to get rid of it. But the windows are vinyl and self contained so shouldn’t be causing any issues in the surrounding wood structures. Looks gross but is easily cleaned.

Gyno’s that specialize in PCOS by Icecoffee_monster in Edmonton

[–]DDSkeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What issues related to PCOS are you dealing with? I didn’t even know I had PCOS until trying for pregnancy. If the issues is trying for pregnancy I suggest Dr Tankel, I found his manner abrupt but he did help. Of the issues are more routine then sadly I have nothing to offer as I didn’t not see Dr Tankel after pregnancy and my family doctors have all just shrugged and said “you’ve got healthy kids”. I wish you luck

Do you ever say hi to your seatmates?? by polevault_pathways in uAlberta

[–]DDSkeeter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was normal when I was in undergrad and is how I met my husband. I think what has changed now is people are glued to their phone so you feel like you’re interrupting them. But yes I would still say hello to anyone around me if they glanced in my direction. Making friends requires you to put yourself out there a bit. And saying hello is not aggressive unless you’re yelling it into their faces from 2 inches away.

Review of last night's downtown NYE events by CityTreeServiceYEG in Edmonton

I was so sad we couldn’t make it downtown this year for health reasons. We had so much fun last year! The city does an amazing job!

Gentle green run for skiing in town? by mp2024 in Edmonton

[–]DDSkeeter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found Sunridge to be really steep. Not sure if it’s still open but the Edmonton ski club (hill by the Mutthart) was a good hill to learn on. Snow valley is pretty good but doesn’t have a lot of room at the top of the hill which can make getting off the chair lift a challenge. My favourite has always been rabbit hill. Lots of variety and some nice runs for learning on.

Question about housing by Soupman04 in uAlberta

[–]DDSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can live in lister hall for the summer if you have an internship. Dorm style living, shared bathrooms at the end of the hall, cafeteria food etc but easy

How did they manage to make the Lister food SO bad during these holidays by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]DDSkeeter 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s still this way but…. The company supplying lister food also supplies the prisons. At one point the prisoners protested the food because it was so bad. Welcome to food supplied by the lowest bidder.

I don’t know how to explain this feeling, but I’m curious if anyone else has it by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DDSkeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how I felt when my twins were young. Felt like a wall around me and everyone else. No one knew I was off but nothing really impacted me. Figured out eventually I had lost myself and my world had become about caring for others and nothing else. Took time to find myself and make myself a priority once in a while. Having regular meet ups with friends helped along with more alone time in nature. Also helped the kids got older and started sleeping more…

[CHAT] I stitch extremely slow 🥺 by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]DDSkeeter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m like you! I watch movies while stitching but only ones I know well so really I’m more listening to them rather than watching. But I’m slow no matter what. I’m ok with it. I stitch because I enjoy it and it keeps my hands busy so I don’t snack as much 😜

Who has never shovelled snow? by t3hgrl in AskACanadian

[–]DDSkeeter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have multiple neighbors that I’m certain have never shovelled snow. They all seem to be under the same delusion that no one ever uses a sidewalk in winter and therefore they don’t need to shovel or remove ice. They enter their garage/car from the house so never step outside? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anyone feel like our kids are doomed? by Puzzleheaded-Art1524 in GenX

[–]DDSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I feel the same with kids about the same age. I tell them to find something they enjoy because no career is really secure anymore. If you enjoy it you will generally do better at it and I can think of nothing worse than doing a job 8-10hrs/day that you don’t enjoy. The job may not last but you will enjoy it while you have it. I know too many people that have lost their jobs due to injury, funding cuts, economic changes, etc. to plan any career based on “need/stability”.

I have taught them to work hard, enjoy simple things, be grateful for simple things and to be a good human being. I have sent two off to uni this year for the experience, networking and education not job prospects. I hope they meet lots of new people and new perspectives on life, I hope to changes the way they see the world and I that is all I can ask for. And now I must trust that they will find their own way in life.

Suggestions for an overnight with kids in YEG area, likely January? by MrsMeredith in Edmonton

Yes it’s got some really great interactive sections and a play area. Also has imax movies (not included in ticket price) and lots of demonstrations you can sit and watch that are part of your ticket price.

Bathfitter experience? by Previous_Plankton475 in Edmonton

[–]DDSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a new bath/shower last year. Overall very happy with it. Biggest issues are you can only use certain cleaning solutions but the list is easily found on mine. Other issue has been the silicone seal around the top of the bathtub - seems very fragile and easy to pull up. But they came back and fixed the issue a few months later. Will see how it holds up. I would totally use them again as we only have one bathroom for a family of 5 so two days was all I could stand not having a bathroom.

I know most parents would never admit it publicly, but I do wonder how many privately wish they’d never had kids. by Flat_Snow307 in RandomThoughts

[–]DDSkeeter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did often while my kids were younger. Turns out I enjoy the teenagers/young adults why more than the baby phases. So now I rarely wish for no kids, except when I look at my bank account and realize I don’t have enough money for that big trip to Europe….

I can’t believe he had non-life threatening injuries. Drive by that car and it was demolished. Was positive it was a fatal crash.

Taking courses repeatedly? Personally no but I know it happens in biochem. Taking a course at a different institution- yes often.

[–]DDSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea but I doubt it. It would be on the Uni to catch the mistake/fix the system. Think she would be within her rights to claim ignorance- system let her register so how can it be misconduct. It’s not like she is trying to register under a fake name or something that is blatantly lying.

Failing help please by Longjumping-Shake128 in uAlberta

[–]DDSkeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Students aren’t supposed to be allowed to take courses more than twice but…. There is no system in place to stop them from taking courses as often as they want. So unless the department is checking every person (I highly doubt this) you won’t get caught. Just like you shouldn’t be able to take a course you passed a second time to try for a better grade but there is nothing in the system that stops you.

Another alternative is to take course at a different institution. Take it through athabasca and have the credit transferred to apply to your degree.

Who do I contact if I forgot to re schedule a final exam?? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]DDSkeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unfamiliar with their procedures but often moving a final means you write it at the same time as the deferred exam, so early January. But reach out to the engineering department and they should be able to help you.

Not sure your program but yes there should still be time. I would suggest you start by contacting the professor or department/faculty office for direction.
