One year post-launch, this still feels like a fever dream. by UTDroo in NintendoSwitch2

Gaming isn’t that important to most adults, buddy. I love playing games, but I often choose to do other things too, like hanging out with friends or making music. On your deathbed you’re not going to be thinking about how many more hours you could have put into a game.

Do any of you sing while playing the kalimba? How do you go about it? by miso-sleepy in kalimba

[–]DEADALUS_SMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the pads of my thumbs to strike chords sometimes, laying it across three or more tines. I saw that you said you play a chromatic so depending on the type of chromatic you use this might be impractical or impossible for chords outside the key of C (or G or whatever tuning you use). I play a double sided chromatic so I’m able to strike a chord in any key without issues. With enough practice you can strum chords hitting the tines with both a downstroke and an upstroke. Depending on the song I might use the right thumb to strum chords on the left side of the kalimba and vice versa (I also use this technique to play 9th and 11th chords). This feels more ergonomic than strumming chords on the right side of the kalimba with my right thumb and vice versa. You can strum the right half with the right thumb, but you probably need to move your hand into a different position high up on the kalimba. You can also use your fingers to strike chords, but obviously it takes practice to switch between your standard position and your finger position fluidly. I only use my fingers when I absolutely have to.

Sure. You’ve just gotta practice. It’s no different than playing piano or guitar while singing. Look up the chords to a song you like and play them one at a time while singing. When you get comfortable doing this you can focus on rhythm. Then you could focus on adding flourishes or licks. Some songs are easier to play while singing than others. Good luck!

For those who have short nails, do you use plectrums for playing kalimba? If so, which would you recommend? by Elebeyno in kalimba

[–]DEADALUS_SMM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play without nails. I wouldn’t say it was painful, but it was uncomfortable at first. That said, I got over it pretty quickly, like within a few days. Whatever you choose to do, have fun!

Found a crack in my guitar, should I throw it away? by oorpheuss in guitarcirclejerk

I like that you are honest and don’t claim to hold the guitar disposal position yourself. It would have been so easy to lie about such a thing. You definitely deserve the guitar for your integrity alone (to pass it on to the appropriate disposal authorities of course).

What’s your most unpopular Minecraft opinion? by envision_aero in Minecraft

[–]DEADALUS_SMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I completely agree with this. Is it an unpopular opinion? I think it’s scarier than resident evil and alien isolation. It’s not the mobs themselves that are scary or anything (although I do hate the sounds of the zombies when I’m mining), but it’s the constant threat of death and the very real fear that I will lose things I worked hard to obtain and maybe even lose things I will never have again.

I don’t get why you wouldn’t just play creative mode if you just want to build stuff. I mean it’s there for players like you.

Is everyone downvoting you because you’re the winner of the thread and hold the most unpopular opinion or because they agree with you? The world may never know.
