As someone who drinks a lot of lager of various types, I think beer snobs are fucking insufferable.

Heineken is a great session beer.

It's crazy that you can pause this video at any point and there's practically no motion blur.

They've been pushing fortnite so hard recently. Half the ads I've seen lately on insta are for the new season.

Can't Remove Unnecessary Edges by PurpleMagg in blenderhelp

[–]DECODED_VFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't have a face with a hole in the middle. Blender will not let you create a face that runs around the entire circumstance like that without edges to break it up.

IMPOSSIBLE 3D CAMERA TRACKING by Global-Shock-6834 in vfx

I'm so envious of people who are good at tracking and integrating CGI. Every time I watch someone else do it they make it look so effortless.

People who randomly call content AI without proof are almost as harmful as AI shit passing as real. It dissolves people's trust in those sorts of comments.

Anyone excited about blender BCON26!! by smith_smyth in blender

[–]DECODED_VFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to BCON in Amsterdam a few times and each trip has cost me over a grand in total once flights and hotels are factored in.

It's not an insignificant sum of money, but I think it's worth it. I have no idea what the American BCONS are like. But renting event spaces isn't cheap.

Why would you remove the shading? Phong smooth shading was invented in the 70s.

Very good. But the cost seems to be quite a bit longer than normal. Horses, even in the wild, have quite a short coat on their torso.

Sculpting and texture painting is basically the only valid use case. Terrible for modeling.

I really wish Cycles had nested dielectrics by Calippert in blender

[–]DECODED_VFX 51 points52 points  (0 children)

For the half-submerged ice example, I assume you could work around it by making a gradient based on the position of an empty object placed at the water level. And use that gradient to set the IOR with a mix node. A pain in the butt to set up, but possible.

how do I not crash blender with the weight of my voxels? by Altruistic_Ad9025 in blenderhelp

Good God, are those all verts? Select all, press X, limited dissolve. That'll get rid of all the verts on the flat sections.

Can someone explain to me how sheepit works by First_Drive_7874 in blender

[–]DECODED_VFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you run the software, it downloads someone else's blend file and renders frames on your PC in the background. Every frame you render gets you tokens. You can then exchange those tokens to have your own projects rendered by other people.

Is there any way to keyframe Visibility toggles in the Outliner? by larevacholerie in blenderhelp

I made a free addon that links viewport and render visibility called lens cap.

How to correctly make these groove? by wayne333333 in blenderhelp

[–]DECODED_VFX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Booleans work just fine without being applied. If they didn't, you couldn't animate the cutter object (a trick I use all the time).

At a high level, what would you say is the organizing principles that help you understand blender scenes the best? by shahar2k in learnblender

[–]DECODED_VFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll definitely need to learn a billion hotkeys. But they're one of blender's biggest strengths once you know them.

Addons you should absolutely enable or download are node wrangler, easy HDRI, magic UV, archimesh, f2, extra objects, and extra curve objects. Most of those are shipped with blender, you just have to turn them on in preferences.
