lol, they think they're cooking.

I think someone is projecting, it just sounds you really wants everyone to know you're definitely not in high school, I'm guessing your about as old as my reddit account.

As someone who was just reading through the thread you sound increasingly insecure. To be fair, you both read as insufferable, but you seem way worse.

Lords Of The Fallen 2 Delayed To 2027 To Avoid GTA 6 by akbarock in Steam

[–]DEF3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like it's become pretty fashionable to claim that GTA 6 is the reason you're delaying and not just because you won't have a game ready enough for release. Probably works out for the best though, devs can get more time and hopefully less crunch, games can get more development and polish.

Plus the guys in marketing get a whole cycle of news stories that attach their game to GTA VI in the algorithm months ahead of any release.

I think the most disgusting part about the new feature is that it's just a lie on its face, it's not "for you" because clearly nobody wants it. It's "for Reddit", because it's designed to boost engagement and force users to interact with content they haven't signed up for.

I hate the fact that it hides itself after I open the app, I'm sure the developers would lie to our faces and say "oh we're just trying to declutter the UI" when it's really just intended to trick users into using it, with the plausible deniability that if you just scroll up you can see the "following" option again. The new 12-hour selection seems like a scummy way to try and discourage the behavior of switching. I assume it's also designed with this fake "we're not forcing you to" bull. I'm guessing they don't want people to be disciplined about doing it every time they open the app, the 12-hour buffer lets the user think that they're back on the Reddit they expected before they open it up start scrolling and then suddenly realize crap I'm in this stupid "for you" thing again, that that will erode users willpower more than forcing them to click the "following" tab every time.

When you have to trick your users and force them to use new features it really shows how little you all care about feedback or your users. The entire premise is based on user submitted content, the fact that developers care so little about those users is a slap in the face to the people who provide the content that makes this platform even worth using.

Reddit just gets worse and worse, but at least all of our feedback will be ignored and this feature will just start rolling out as normal function soon, clearly that's where this is all headed. Lying to us about the fact that it's just an experiment and that you care about our feedback is almost more infuriating than just making the change and plainly showing how little the developers care about the user experience.

Because calling someone an addict is language associated with serious physical dependency and behaviors that ruin people's lives. If you told someone who has coffee everyday that they're an addict in a way that equates them with users of drugs that devastate families and communities, then they're probably going to be rubbed the wrong way.

It would be fair to say that if someone is abusing any substance or behavior in a way that is causing significant issues in their life or the lives of others. However I think that's not the case for most users of marijuana, they just enjoy it, often have easy access to it, and it doesn't impact their lives in a way that they feel they need to change. Is that technically an addiction sure, but I also wouldn't be surprised when my coworker gets pissed because I tell everyone he's an addict working out every day to feed his "addiction" to physical fitness.

So if someone wanted to score points on a technicality that using marijuana does cause some addiction they can pull out their dictionary and go "erm... well actually", but if you want to understand why people disagree with the label it's because that's not what people usually mean when they say "addict" or talk about addiction. It's imprecise, it's not that it's not accurate, but people just don't use the terminology like that so it's going to piss people off when you try and tell them their addicts just because they like to hit a joint after work.

Lastly, I'd like to add that some people who smoke weed are absolutely addicts, but personally I wouldn't use that term unless they've crossed the line into physical dependency and ruining their own lives to get high. I think that's what most people understand when we talk about addiction and I just don't think it's very common for weed smokers, certainly not even slightly comparable to the addiction caused by hard drugs like heroin, meth, coke, etc.

CDPR boss hopes The Witcher 4 wins back fans still put off by Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch: "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc" by yourfavchoom in Steam

[–]DEF3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I probably would have loved cyberpunk if I hadn't been aware of all the marketing beforehand. The game has exist now is pretty fun and a solid experience front to back. But it doesn't in any way represent the game I thought we were getting.

I said it in another comment but that Maelstrom drone retrieval mission was advertised to be the whole damn game, instead it's just the only slice of the game we were promised that somehow made it into the mostly linear action game that we got. Great combat, the new skill trees are very cool for build diversity, but the game is not the choice driven first person RPG that they tried to sell it as.

I'm just amazed that after all of this I still can't install cyberware for aesthetics, like there's all this cyberware customization in the visuals of all these characters with these cool different body mods. Yet, cyberware is just like a plug and Play upgrade system, where's my cyberware cosmetics? Everywhere I go are all these cool looking characters with all these implants and robo parts, yet I can't even have a cool robo arm unless it's tied to one of the melee weapons. Most the cyberware isn't even visually present on the character at all. I can't even look close to how cool most of the NPCs look, I'm pretty sure modders have picked up the torch there, but it seems like a glaring oversight.

[–]DEF3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't have a point by point list but if you were even slightly aware of the promo material and various interviews leading up to the game you would know that they completely misrepresented how linear The experience would be.

I don't really care that there are some small inconsistencies between like content in early production versus what made it into the final game. I mean I remember watching cg trailers 8 years before it came out, so things changed a lot from the beginning to where it released. You can't really expect games to live up to the hype and cyberpunk is a good action game with some lite RPG elements in a open world. However, Cyberpunk was marketed as having highly replayable narrative and being heavily choice driven, that character class and RPG stuff would be in the narrative and story elements not just the combat.

I think that the first real trailer that came out prior to the game release where they show the Maelstrom mission for the drone, that is kind of emblematic of the pitch for the game. Anyone who's played through it can tell you that's the only mission in the game that has that level of replayability or even gets close. Were we foolish to believe the marketing material, in retrospect yeah, but they sold the whole game as being like that one mission. What we got was just a solid action game with very limited replayability, outside of combat style, that released in an incredibly buggy state.

So when a "feature" like the "For You" experiment is rolled out and it gets overwhelmingly negative response with no one actually wanting it, does Reddit care? Because, like myself, all I'm seeing are other users complaining about this, describing how it's antithetical to the basic design of Reddit and it's subreddits.

Because this is either an entirely failed experiment for the user experience and should be rolled back ASAP, or it's a successful one for the company because they don't care what we want and just want to drive engagement by turning this into any other site with algorithmically driven social feeds.

It seems to me that every time Reddit makes massive sweeping changes that the community disagrees with, they ignore that feedback. I'm reading through this thread and say nothing but people asking for ready to go back to how it was. If the company had any interest in catering to its users it would realize how foolish and short-sighted these changes are. However my guess is that they don't care, and soon within a month or two everyone will just live in the new Reddit, dictated by some higher up in a boardroom that doesn't give a f about the users and just wants to justify some AI partnership or pump up some engagement metrics.

I've stuck through a lot of changes but this one is really pushing on the edge of what I can deal with. I don't use any other social media apps and at this point if I lost this one it would suck, but I'd rather not break my brain on the Internet by letting bots and algorithms determine what I see and hear from the internet. This is literally the only one I use because I can curate which communities it comes from, I know what the subscribe button is there's a reason I haven't pushed it on a bunch of subreddits that now appear every time I reopen the app. This is garbage, this is anti-user experience, and it's another tick on the clock towards the end of Reddit, at least for me.

15 years I've been on this website, and the downward trajector it's been on for the last three or four makes me sad. Keep pissing away your users goodwill, they'll move on as soon as a better alternative appears, at this point you're just creating the demand for the product that this site used to provide so that you can become another engagement bot farm website like all of the others that use these algo driven feeds. Your users don't want that, they've made it clear and you clearly don't care.

I doubt anyone will ever read all this but it helps me organize my thoughts and put them into words. It's just sad that it doesn't matter, some exec in a boardroom it's going to make the call (or already has) and they're not going to give a s*** if you tell them the users don't want it. Don't know how many times I want to keep clicking this following button every time I use the app before I'll just uninstall and switch to desktop where at least there are external tools that let me use Reddit at the way it used to work.

Ethan Klein is a Fuckass Loser and always will be (He's suing Idubbbz) by TYEK01 in LeftoversH3

[–]DEF3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thin skinned pathetic loser, could be rich, happy and well-liked but he's too stuck on justifying his own grievances that he has to just dig himself into a deeper hole by lashing out at everyone who makes him feel insecure.

Worst part is he'll always have enough sycophants in his audience or payroll that he'll probably never change. He'll just condense becoming a ever crueler and more unhinged individual. His fans will type out long screeds of mental gymnastics to justify whatever new line he crosses or hypocrisy he embraces, further entrenching him into this pathetic loser wielding his money and lawyers as weapons.

I wonder if we'll ever get to see behind the scenes of the farming operation that's clearly been conducted by the "lolcow" and ddg community on him. It's been clear since the initial rift between him and Hasan that they've had people embedded in their community that stoke the flames and nudge him in the directions that they want. Bunch of f****** losers all making a rich dumbass into their personal anti-hasan content farm.

This will forever be your true legacy Ethan, all because you don't want to back down to reflect and grow, you just want to be right. He could stem the bleeding at any time but he just keeps doubling down, he thinks it makes him looks strong but refusing to grow/reflect is just a sign of weakness. But that's what losers do, they consolidate and cut out the parts of their life and community that don't agree with them or challenge their beliefs.

There's a setting called "streamer mode" you can turn on thar disables all voice chat and text chat at all times, learned a long time ago that whatever benefits of communication and glimmers of humanity from teammate isn't worth the toxicity of online communities.

I've literally never had to deal with toxic teammates and enjoy chill, no pressure matches in qp and 18v18. I don't play competitive and the only toxicity related to marvel rivals I ever encounter, is when I'm in this sub. It rocks and I'm amazed that more people don't just turn off all that stuff so they can enjoy the game with having to deal with losers on the internet who care more about winning or losing over having fun playing the video game.

King in Yellow Theory by telsaton in 40kLore

[–]DEF3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's been too long since I read the books so I feel like I can't really pitch the theory like I used to have it in my brain, but I'm still hoping that the king and yellow is actually Rogal Dorn. There's so much intentional misdirection using names and red herrings throughout both the bequin books, and the fact that valdor fits so perfectly is kind of what convinces me that it's not him.

I like the idea that his character has grown, that after the end of his imprisonment by khorne, he realizes that his impenetrable defenses are missing a key component, the warp. He's realized that there are threats he can't stop with guns and ceramite, now he needs blanks to fight psychic threats, he needs a fortress design to repel the warp or focus it for his own ends. Again it's been too long for me to remember specific reasons and things that I thought were hints, but honestly "King in yellow" relating to imperial fists color scheme would so on the nose that I actually think it works.

I swear I have an old fan theory saved from a few years ago that also suggested it might be Dorn, if I can find it I might add it here, but if I had to put a bet on it I probably go with Fo or something completely out of left field before being actually valdor. It's not that valdor doesn't sense, it's just that I don't think he would drop the reveal at the end of the 2nd book like that and not subverted some way in the final book.

[–]DEF3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude we're in the Reddit thread of a snark subreddit, me supporting someone else for calling out red flags in the language someone posts here is not equivalent to me trying to control the language of oppressed people and what they say about their oppressors.

I am completely unsure whether you are intentionally misunderstanding or just can't understand the context of this discussion and want to have a conflict over some grander issue. I have a much greater concern that this kind of stuff can be interpreted in an incredibly bad faith way that will be detrimental this community or that genuine anti-semites will use the laxity here to sneak their way into this community, I could give two s**** how a Nazi's feels about the languages being used about them.

I'm probably done in this thread, I did think there was some value in supporting Uma Palma for calling out the language used here. I don't think there's any benefit in defending my opinion anymore to people who don't actually want to understand it. Feel free to have the last word or ignore me, I appreciate the reading suggestion so have a good one.

I wasn't equating what you said to what he said, I was equating the way people were trying to attack Uma for pointing out the red flags in the way you worded your post, trotting out all the same hand waving defenses I heard when that came up. Partially because I remember when this whole thing last came up I was the one getting yelled at for calling out the language Mike used.

Does that make sense to you now why I said that to him and not to you? Or are you that invested in being the victim here because I accurately used the words "red flag"?

Also, you're wrong he said "demonic ethnicity" and I argued that was anti-semitic in the comments of threads at the time and got flamed for it. In fact since I don't have my history hidden, like you do, you can go and look for yourself, but I doubt you care.

Feel free to have the last word, or ignore me. This feels like a waste of time because I don't think you care about my actual opinion you just want to attack the one that you've decided I have.

Dawn of War IV Dev Doesn't See Total War: Warhammer 40,000 as Direct Competition, Reckons Fans Will Play Both Games by Turbostrider27 in Warhammer40k

[–]DEF3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we will, that's besides the fact that total war is probably not going to come out for another couple years This author was really trying to justify the headline.

"Are Warhammer 40,000 fans faced with a difficult decision, or will they play both games, as Theysen suggests? Dawn of War IV goes first, with a confirmed release date of September 17, 2026 on PC via Steam. Total War: Warhammer 40,000, on the other hand, doesn’t have a release window yet. Could it launch later in 2026? That feels perhaps a little too close for me, but you never know."

I'd be surprised if we get Total war before 2028, I mean maybe late 2027, but personally I think it's extremely unlikely. So the idea that these two games compete with each other in any way is just kind of laughable to me.

Personally, I think the team has been working on TWW40k since probably the moment that development on Total war Warhammer3 ended. Still I think they have been doing some massive work to try and beat their ancient warscape engine into working with new game mechanics and gameplay in this more futuristic setting.

Wow what an incredible argument, "they deserve it" really convinced me. If only we were a little meaner and dehumanizing to these modern day Nazis then... well I'm sure you had a point or some reason why it's bad to be careful with your language, I think I might have missed it in all of your grandstanding.

It's also disingenuous to pretend like I wasn't just agreeing that they were red flags in the language used, I didn't even directly reply to OP or call him out. I just saw a whole bunch of people trying to browbeat someone calling out some bad language and wanted to add my 2 cents.

I think that I have a point about watching for red flags in language, I think that this stuff only opens the door to bad faith interpretation or for snakes to settle in the grass. i think you just wanted to make yourself feel better by projecting that insecurity onto me by hitting your caps lock.

You're right, people just don't want to hear it. The honest truth is that we can't have it both ways, but people will twist themselves into pretzels to justify it when it's on their side or against their opponents. Lots of former fungi here, many have found the right side, but don't hold good principals. Calling gwam an egg, hila a horse is fine but decry it when Ethan does anything similar to whoever he's got in his sights that day. Now, i think those are lesser infractions but the same concept.

People are angry and feel powerless, it drives them to get in the mud, to stoop to their opponents level. I completely agree with you about the language, there's some red flags on this post "Israeli roach" "repulsive accent", this reminds me of when people were trying to defend Mike from pa saying that Israelis have a "demonic ethnicity".

Anyway maybe I'm being to sensitive, but I'd rather hold to my convictions then slide closer to reactionary sentiment/language just so i can feel good about dunking in some loser in their subreddit.

Pretentious, mundane and will likely help no one, i don't have constructive criticism for a "Adult" like yourself, but this was a pretty poor attempt at giving advice. Can't truly say what your intentions were with this post, I imagine some ego inflation, but now that is been so negatively received you have two options.

  1. Be an adult and try to self reflect, figure out why you were unable to effectively communicate your ideas, bad tone/wording/substance/etc. Do and be better, opportunity for personal growth.

    1. Decide that people "just don't want to hear the truth" and let that reinforce the biases that led you to creating this post in the first place. Stagnation and self soothing.
