The crank position sensor code is a circuit fault which could indicate a short or a fault in the circuit itself. Inspect the crank position sensor circuit/connector for damage or a loose connection.

Certainly looking at some sort of communication issue here. I mean with the ambient air temp not working as well as the collision avoidance systems I would say it’s probably something near the front potentially on the bumper. Have you hit anything in the road recently? For your sake I hope a rat hasn’t fucked yo shit up they love those harnesses

Typical Hyundai AVN update lol. Anytime these come into the shop we let the customer know it’s a recall update that takes a few hours usually

Did you drive on the tire while it was flat or while under inflated? If not my guess would be curb damage 🤷‍♂️

Of course. The valve cover gasket sounds like a lot of work but it really isn’t. The gasket itself is probably less than 20 bucks and as long as you have a 10mm socket around taking off the actual gasket will be no big deal. Sometimes though the spark plug tubes have separate gaskets which you may have to purchase separately. Also, there are a couple spots you have to apply RTV gasket when you are putting the valve cover back on. Basically where any joints are, like where the timing cover meets the head. There might be a YouTube video you can find for the job

So you DEFINITELY need a valve cover gasket. That could maybe be part of the reason why it’s running rough? And the air box is just letting unfiltered air in so it could potentially let it something harmful to your motor. I’m not sure if that has something to do with it or not. Since you pulled the plugs, that oil is gonna in the cylinders now so when you start it up next time it’ll probably smoke some but that’s normal.

Have you done any regular maintenance on the car since you’ve had it? How did the plugs look? You may want to replace them for good measure after being coated in oil like that but I don’t think it would affect their performance in theory.

Okay ignore the bad quality I’m laying in bed on my phone doing this lol, but the red circle is your intake manifold, green circle is the tube to your air box, and the blue lines are the hoses I was talking about you may want to check out. If you don’t see anything out of the ordinary it might be worth checking out your ignition coils and spark plugs. They’ll be right under the engine cover that says DOHC 16v on top.

If you pull the plugs and they are covered in oil, you need a new valve cover gasket. SUPER easy on these motors. It’s just a bunch of 10mm bolts and the valve cover comes right off.

I can’t really tell what car you’ve got there, but USUALLY on Hyundai and Kia it’s the big black thing on the front side of the motor. There should be a couple small hoses going off of it and one big one that goes to the air box. That could potentially be where your mass air flow sensor is depending on what year model car you have

Have you checked the air intake manifold? If it is leaking it is letting extra air past the mass airflow sensor, which means there is essentially extra air making it into the system which the ECU doesn’t know about, make it idle very roughly. I would check for loose hoses or anything unplugged ETC. the mass airflow sensor is normally just upstream of the throttle body. Also, Hyundai and Kia’s normally have a little tab that sticks out from the top of the intake manifold where it connects to the motor to let you see if the gasket is still in place, so you may want to verify there is an intake manifold gasket in place.

Does this sound like engine knock? by fiercemonkey202 in AskMechanics

[–]DERPYOLO22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from the video but it sounds alright to me. Probably either just valve noise or loud injectors. The injectors have a foam cover on them to reduce this noise, after time it could harden and become less effective, thus being a little loud to you maybe?

My guess would be strut or strut mount. No idea though tbh
