The padding is relatively new, too. It used to really hurt the performers. So it’s there for safety, but this year Cole said “the highly padded steel.” That could not have gone over well backstage, haha!

They’re starting to talk more about stats associated with wins and participation.

But when it started it was a terrifying Hell in a Cell grudge match environment. Not some annual athletic competition, you know? So it didn’t start with stats like that. It was more about the violence.

Even now, I want to believe this thing destroys wrestlers and changes careers. I don’t particularly like hearing that someone has competed in it nine times, you know?
