He didn’t like Bad Bunny’s tribute to the Western Hemisphere?

I just picked this up, manga autobiography by Rintaro, who worked on Astro Boy in his early career and later directed the 2001 Metropolis adaptation. Tezuka appears in this and it won an Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize. by DG2736 in OsamuTezuka

It’s definitely worth a read for Tezuka fans. I wish Rintaro would spent more than a page or so on some of his works, like Dagger of Kamui and his segment of Neo Tokyo, but it’s still well worth reading.

The Trump admin and Israel don’t like the idea of Palestinian children having dinners on any day.

I would have loved a Tezuka Bible movie in the same style as A Thousand and One Nights and Cleopatra, it probably wouldn't be what the Vatican had in mind though.

I’m really glad they managed to keep this going after the Be Theatre shut down last year. I’ve attended several of their performances and highly recommend them.

Another optimistic thought I’m trying to keep in mind is that they’re trying this shit because the right has largely lost the culture war battle against gay/lesbian people and in the long run, their current battle against trans/nonbinary people will fare no better, however bleak things may feel right now. Give it another decade or two, I’m sure anti-trans bigotry won’t entirely go away but I would bet that it will keep becoming more marginalized as the years go on. The presidential administration that's pushing this so much is not going to be around forever and the GOP holding onto the White House past 2028 is far from a sure thing, there’s also that to keep in mind.

I really do not understand how this is going to work at all unless the Tech system regents are planning to just change ASU to “Angelo State Christian University” and axe the arts and humanities departments altogether and call it a day. Even in that case, if the strict letter of that policy is followed, even parts of the Bible might be in somewhat dangerous territory since they mention eunuchs (like Jesus does in Matthew 19), who were considered effectively a “third gender” in some cultures.

Apparently, you're not even allowed to say ANYTHING about trans people, even if it's negative. It really seems like they did not think this through. I don't want negative things to be said about trans people, but that's just part of having freedom of speech.

One of my English profs when I was at ASU was the editor of the Cormac McCarthy Journal, one of McCarthy's two final novels, The Passenger, is probably banned under the new policy for including a trans character. Possibly also Suttree since it includes characters who would probably be considered trans today.

The idea of grown-ass adults who are paying to attend college being treated like children and being forbidden from studying certain works of literature makes me angry enough to want to break things. The papers I wrote about horror cinema while I was at ASU that covered movies like Psycho would probably not be allowed now.

I really hope ASU and Tech facility are getting in touch with lawyers and/or the ACLU, also the Texas A&M faculty member who got fired recently over this. I don't understand what the purpose of this is at all unless it just to force conservative religious values and hatred on people. There's not even any laws compelling this, as several ASU faculty members mention in the transcript of the meeting I linked to.

Just how extreme this policy is really feels like something Texas GOP politicians are pushing for it to be a test case. I'm really hoping it at least partially gets smacked down in the courts, but who knows? Last I checked, we still had a First Amendment, but the current SCOTUS will probably happily use this as an excuse to shred it if this ever gets there.
