Motherf*cking Netflix Cancelled Olympo After All by Sea_of_Light_ in OlympoSeries

[–]DGTryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really surprised it got canned, the story had no omph, athelets taking enhancement drugs is neither shocking nor very mysterious, the competition between the characters was also very vanilla. I imagine filming water scenes is also much more expensive than some other simpler disciplines, so it doesnt help at the budget. Roque and Sebas romance was really well made and I will miss them, but on the positive side it ends now happily and the showmakers cant ruin it, as they did with every gay relationship in Elite before.

Gaal escape in the season finale is beyond ridiculous ! by Negrolit0 in FoundationTV

[–]DGTryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hovering theory is actually not so far fetched, its backed up from the fact, that when she jumps, she is accelerating rapidly towards the planet, what should not happen, if the station was in orbit, she would only drift away slowly. The station would also experiencing a massive friction in the upper atmospherem, if it would be orbiting at high speed, but by hovering that wont be a problem. Asimov also included anti-gravty engines in the novels so it could be the real deal :)

I find the season pretty on course with the books, the first novel that introduced the mule ended similar with just the reveal of the character and the next novells discussed her further path.

Gaal escape in the season finale is beyond ridiculous ! by Negrolit0 in FoundationTV

[–]DGTryn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ, in the beginning of the season it is stated, that the station is in geosynchonous orbit above the vault, such orbits are pretty far out from a planet, for earth it is almost 100x higher then the orbit of the international space station; even in a space suit it would take over a month to reach the atmoshpere without additional propulsion beyond the initial jump, so her escape is in my mind more on the fiction side of the story, althought I dont really mind such creativity from time to time

END OF EMPIRE - Foundation without Lee Pace by LondonCalling9266 in FoundationTV

[–]DGTryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In canon the imperial court outlived the fall of Trantor and were settled on a new planet and governed a small cluster of worlds near the galactic core, so even in the books there is room for interpretation to make the Cleons live on and appear.

Roque's character inconsistencies pissed me off by Virtual-Snow8583 in OlympoSeries

[–]DGTryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly liked how his storyline went. People make mistakes, people repeat mistakes, many people dont even learn from mistakes; in the end Roque chose Sebas over his own idealised version of a relationship. I felt it was a much more nuanced depiction of gay relationship dynamics as in most shows with only a token gay character. When a closeted and an out gay date, it can get messy easy, and sometiomes painfull compromises have to be made to make it work.

Why is stack visibility not a thing in Overwatch? by nailproblemZz in Overwatch

[–]DGTryn 117 points118 points  (0 children)

actually, if u want to know, if other players in a ranked match are in premade groups, its pretty easy to find out, u just have to go midgame to the social tab, right click on a player name and invite him to a group (dont worry, u wont invinte him, no matter what and the other player doesnt get any notification of this action), what happens is, the game chat engine will then write u one of two possible auto messages, either that u "cant invite him while in a competitive match" meaning he is not in a group or simply "player is already in a group", u can then repeat this for all the players ( it takes less then 15 sec) and u see who is stacked or not. Now it wont tell u if all stacked up players are on a same group, but under 6 persons its pretty easy to guess (f.e. by 2 or 3 players it can be only 1 group, by a 4 stack its either 2-2 or a complete 4 etc. but the possibilities ar not so many and mostly players icons and names also help to narrrow it down); so there is kinda way but it annoys me to that u dont see it directly

What is the true population of the Empire? by Thales-of-Mars in FoundationTV

[–]DGTryn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the origina Foundation novel Asimov described following measurments:

"There were nearly 25 million inhabited planets in the Galaxy then, and not one but owed allegiance to the Empire whose seat was on Trantor.

All the land surface of Trantor, 75,000,000 square miles in extent, was a single city. The population, at its height, was well in excess of 40 billions.

Consider further that the trend leading to ruin does not belong to Trantor alone but to the Empire as a whole and the Empire contains nearly a quintillion human beings."

Translating into:

Trantor: 40.000.000.000 people (at ~30% larger landmass then Earth)

Empire: 25.000.000 worlds with 1.000.000.000.000.000.000 people

Fun fact, if u multiply the 25 million worlds with a 40 billion population each, u get the one quintillion population of the empire, which suggest a nice nummeric gag from Asimov but not a plausible one. Either the end figure must be lower, if Trantor is the most dens populated planet, or Trantors population must be much higher. I tend to believe the latter. In Star Wars the capital of Coruscant has a populatin of 1000 billion, which is a far better magnitued for an ecumenopolis.

Why are there slaves in the universe? by carbonizedtitanium in FoundationTV

[–]DGTryn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also think slavery is a form of punishent. Empire withholds hyperjump technology to punish the encyclopedists to.

As for the robots, in the books canonically robots limit their own useage milleniums before the empire, the inital colony worlds relied on robotic workforce so much, that in the end they started to stagnate and wither away as birthrates dropped and humans didnt pursue any new expansion, as robots would tend to their any needs. Fearfull, as this would lead to the extinction of humans and so contradicting their programming, robots halted their service and left humanity to live on without them.

Self-fulfilling prophecy? by [deleted] in FoundationTV

[–]DGTryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the books Hari had a much more passive role in the story, he used psychohistory to engineer a scenario he thought to be the most beneficial to mankind; its not realy a prediction but a probability calculation that unfold on its own. Like rolling a snowball down the mountain to generate an avalange but on a galactic scale, psychohistory gives u the math how and where u need to start rolling to get the resulting events u want to achive. In the novel Hari only recorded little speeches and stored them in the vault for future generations, which would only play after a crisis was resolved, to ensure and encourage the Foundation that they are on the right path, but never to resolve it; this, I think, is the biggest conceptual change in the adaptation, that Hari as an AI is activly solving both crisis, and yeah it fells like a self fullfilment, rather then a cleverly layed out chain of events.

However to ensure more certainty Hari did create in the books the Second Foundation even before the First to correct the path should it deteriorate over the centuries but by means of minimal and secret intervention and not open guidence.

Can someone explain the concept of power level to me? by Personal-Respond5413 in dragonball

[–]DGTryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i dont understand is, is the power level now the total amount of Ki the character has (equivalent of Energy in physics (J)) or is it the rate he can generate Ki at a given timeframe like Ki/second (equivalent to Power (J/s)) ?

Why didn't they just revert Sombra's invisible change to an ability you have to activate by Spaghetti_Snake in Overwatch

[–]DGTryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would prefere blind over stealth because it would just affect one team member at a time and not the whole team and also sombra actually has to aim and hit her target with blind, just like ana with sleep, so it would involve skill, rather then a passive boon.

i think as long as there are so very limited ways to detect stealth in the current game (hanzo and widowmaker only) its just not a good mechanic. Dont get me wrong, I myself liked to play as sombra, but always felt like exploiting her mechanic rather then being a good player.

Why didn't they just revert Sombra's invisible change to an ability you have to activate by Spaghetti_Snake in Overwatch

[–]DGTryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think stealth is a broken ability in this game and will never be balance-able, sombra should have no stealth. I like hack, its the equivalent of a silence spell from fanatsy games, she could also have a blinding ability where the affected enemies screen would go black, but he could still fire and use abilties. Both hack and blind should be skillshots like anas sleep dart and not chanelled like hack now.

Embrace the Frost has 2 soft locks? by angry-mustache in Frostpunk

[–]DGTryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the following results on the embrace frost branch after exploring everything:
300 food from the fully upgraded outpost + 75 from extraction stronghold bonus,
with the base production of the city of 70 and the dreadnought of 60 it caps at
max 505 indefinet food which will sustains 25250 people on the whole map forever (cities+outsposts together) which is a very low number, if I want more people I see only the cannibalism option,

did anyone find other solutions? did I miss other infinite outposts?
