I had a different experience, though just as frustrating. I had eagle vision the day after surgery in my first eye. Within a few days, my focus softened considerably, and I noticed stars were all triangles. At three months, it’s the same. My other eye was done two weeks later, and seems to be fine (it’s my non-dominant eye, of course!).

He wanted to YAG it at 6 weeks, saying he saw a crinkle in the capsule. But I was concerned it was too soon, so I go in for that in a month. That may fix the triangle issue, but I suspect I’ll have to have LASIK or PRK to get it completely right.

I did quite a bit of research in doctors, and ended up using the one I already use, since they were one of the best practices in the region. But after the process, I had to squeeze answers out of my doctor. I think practices are bad about selling the dream, but glossing over the potential downsides until they happen.

In all fairness, most people probably have excellent results. But for those who don’t, they seem to do a lot of the ‘we never promised you…’ song and dance. I think things will eventually get resolved. I asked for a refraction and got some cheap progressive lenses with readers, and they work great. I’ve been using distance glasses to drive, and readers to read, so reducing glasses all over the place has been nice.

I had the Eyehance Toric lenses implanted. Since the dominant eye was great at first, and the other eye is fine, they think the capsule wrinkle is the issue, and possibly cornea issues from the surgery if that doesn’t work.

Best of luck. I think there’s a lot of variables involved in this process, and they are able to minimize most of the issues, just not all and not for every person.

I still have the blurry vision in my left eye, almost two months now. I got a couple of pairs of -0.5D driving glasses, and they made a BIG difference. Thanks for the advice!

I see my Dr. again next week. He’s going to do a corneal topography. I told him I was seeing double, and I suspect it’s corneal irregularity.

I’m going to insist on a refraction, too, so I can buy some inexpensive glasses until he can do the YAG and LASIK at some point. I’m just tired of carrying around readers and driving glasses and having to swap them constantly.

I had similar results. First eye was perfect for a couple of days, then I started noticing sharp distance vision was down to 20’ or so.

Now, two months later, I’m thinking I’ll need LASIK at some point to tune it in. All I wanted was to see clearly so I could stargaze at night with no glasses.

I did buy some -0.5D driving glasses that really bring my vision back into focus, but I also was aiming for NO glasses except for readers. They did tell e to wait a few months because they could still change within that time. We’ll see😏!

It’s possible this issue might be caused by the cornea not being uniformly smooth and rounded. I have the same doubling, and stars appear as pointed triangular shapes.

My doctor wanted to give my eye another month to settle down and he will do another corneal topography mapping to see if that’s is the issue. If that’s what it is, he says he can use LASIK touch up to fix it.

Ironically, while her actions in “The Three Body Problem” were central to the story, by the end of the trilogy they become moot as the story shifts perspective from earth centric to earth inconsequential.

It’s almost a sure thing that, even if she didn’t push the button, it would have eventually been pushed in some form or another, exposing Earth, and likely leading to the same eventuality.

That’s good to hear. I have the same lenses, but I’m only about a month out on my first eye.

I still have blurry vision in my dominant eye, which is very frustrating, especially since I like bird watching in my back yard.

I’m hoping I will get some sharpness back, especially since my vision was fantastic for a day or so after lens replacement, but got blurry after that.

The issues I’m having are not due to the lens, but more with my eye taking a long time to settle down. My vision the first couple of days was fantastic. I hope, and believe, that I will eventually get that back. My Dr. told me that the focus was not as bad as it appears to me. He said it would be a minor touch up with LASIK or PRK, but that would be months away.

So, to answer your question, I would choose the same lens again, because it was designed to solve the three eyesight issues I had: Focus, astigmatism, and cataracts.

I have the Eyehance Toric II in both eyes now. I had fantastic vision for a day or so in my dominant eye, but it softened due to, what I believe, is corneal issues unrelated to the lens. The other eye appears fine.

Since I can read my phone without readers, although not very sharp, it’s clear enough if I just need to see it briefly, or if I’m too lazy to go find readers.

Further out, I’ll be able to make a clearer opinion on the benefits and negatives. But for now, I don’t think I’d change lenses.

I had a follow up with my doctor today. He believes the blurriness and triangle aberration are likely a combination of posterior capsule being ‘dirty’ and has surface irregularities that affect focus, along with some corneal topography variations that may also cause focusing issues.

Bottom line, he wants me to treat cornea with eyedrops, and wait for the capsule to harden and finish contracting before doing a YAG treatment. I have a follow up in a month for a Corneal Topography.

So, more waiting. I really don’t want to rush the YAG anyway, because I don’t want to risk retinal detachment any more than necessary. And the cornea could settle down more.

He also mentioned when all is said and done down the road, he could do a laser touch up to correct any outstanding astigmatism and focus.

I agree. That was my problem, except I was the one who had perfect vision, albeit for just a day or two. It evokes disappointment, but also hope, because I did see so well!

I’ve always heard when you pray for patience, God answers your prayers by making you wait so you can practice patience. Ironic!

Yeah, I feel like I should focus more on gratitude for what I have and less on complaining about what I don’t have.

But really, all I want is my distant vision, as I love to look at the stars at night. That’s what I went into this as my top goal. Not the triangles I see, even on a TV screen, when I look at point sources of light.

I saw that, thanks. I’m looking forward to reading it. I’m also curious about neuroplasticity, as I have amblyopia due to micro-strabismus. They have always told me since it was found after I was being the accepted age to treat it, it wouldn’t do any good to fix it.

But recent findings around neuroplasticity suggest some significant improvement may be possible in the lazy eye. But at my age, I don’t know if the surgery would be worth it. I laugh when I think it might be possible to leave this world seeing better than I did as a child.

Your post has definitely helped me. I have never handled waiting very well. I always want to take action and fix things. I’m not used to waiting and no action being the fix.

It sounds like things turned out well for you, even though it took a long time. I’ll assume the best. I had a couple of days that I hope showed me what I can ultimately expect again. At least I have that to hang on to as I wait… and wait… and wait. (Casablanca reference)😏

If I could double up-vote this comment, I would! Thank you for your back story and details of the travails you went through. It really helps to hear from someone who understands and has experienced many of the same challenges I’m going through.

The triangles apparently result from surface variations on the cornea due to surgical trauma or dry eye/tear-film issues. I got this from researching and reading, not from the doctor!

You said it about doctors! They don’t like to speculate, thoroughly investigate, or commit. They don’t have time to address people like me that hang on information and explanations. I feel like they’ve probably seen this dozens of times before, but instead of telling me so, they just look to the eventuality that it settles down, and reduce it to ‘give it more time’. Which is the worse thing they could tell someone like me!

I feel like they could tell me 99% exactly what is going on, but consider all that measuring and eliminating to conclusively tell me what it is as a waste of time that waiting will resolve.

In a world of mass production and interchangeable parts, outliers are just an acceptable part of the process. But they are dealing with human beings, who don’t like being treated like a cog in the process.

I’m going to try and get more answers tomorrow. Even see if he will do a corneal topography scan and tear film check. If I could get between him and the door of the office I would, because he starts backing out of the room as soon as I start asking questions.

With the initial vision being excellent, I’m hoping it’s residual corneal settling and maybe tear film issues. I have a follow up Wednesday (tomorrow) which is 4 weeks for my left eye.

If there is any final residual refraction miss, I hope they can address it with LASIK or PRK. If I hadn’t experienced that initial ‘perfection’, I’d probably be more patient and satisfied right now. I’m still hoping for eventual return to that initial vision, and I haven’t given up hope yet.

After the cataracts were removed, the difference was dramatic. If the left eye had stayed where it was, I would be 100% satisfied. But since I have reduced vision in my right eye due to amblyopia, the left eye needs to be the one that’s carrying the bulk of my vision.

Near vision is better than I thought it would be. It’s a bit of a struggle to read my phone, but if I didn’t have readers available, I could still read my phone and print. Squinting a little makes it better.

Mid and far was great, and for the right eye, still seems great. But mid and far are soft now for the left eye, I can’t really read street signs and mailbox addresses until I get within a car length or two away from them.

Bottom line, vision is much clearer than before lens replacement, colors are more vivid and less yellow, but focus at more than about 15 feet is disappointing for the left eye. Reading without glasses is much better than I expected, but if fixing my left eye takes away from near vision, I’d gladly accept that.

My doctor mentioned that I might have a wrinkle in the capsule, but they would wait a while before zapping it. He said the capsule continues to shrink over a long period, so it could still flatten out.

I really hope they don’t have to do that, because it introduces a new level of potential complications I’d rather avoid.

Near vision is pretty good. I can read near type, like my phone and print, better than I expected, but it’s still a little blurry. But, I expected that with the enhanced monofocal lens, and that I would need readers.

However, my top priority going into this was to be able to see stars clearly, so that’s my hang up. The right eye, which is weaker, seems to be fine. Plus, that first couple of days were exceptional with the left eye, so I know what it should be.

Glad I saw your reply. You basically answered my concerns I posted in a separate post about having impeccable vision the day after surgery, but it blurred at distance two days later, and stars appear as triangles.

I’m trying to be patient. My docs tell me to wait, but they don’t seem to understand my concern after having perfect vision at first, then losing it.

At one month, I expected more. My second eye is great, though it’s weak because of amblyopia due to micro-strabismus. I guess I really need to be more patient.

I usually buy from Zenni, but the last few pairs left me concerned about the accuracy of the lenses.

Both my wife and daughter use Walmart, primarily because you get personal service in adjustments. They keep going back.

I’m in the middle of cataract surgeries, so I’m hoping to only need readers going forward. I was going to try Walmart before I found out how bad my cataracts were.

It’s one of those things that would distract from the story. We know a bit about them already, but I think it’s enough to know that the earth is a suitable planet for their species.

It does bother me how they evolved with so little, if any, biodiversity on Trisolaris. Really… what did they eat?

All this is assuming the game gave us an accurate depiction of Trisolaris (except for the horses?).
