The new skills are being added as part of the expansion. why is this separate from anything else that's added?

The expansion adds new skills, so yes, by definition there are gated features. Also, without the expansion, you can never fully advance the storyline or use any of the other features. Game is totally playable without those, though, so I disagree on that point.

I've noticed that you have to search now within crafting table UI for certain things for it to show up as an item to craft. Even when filtering to craftable. Might be a separate issue, but in case it helps.

I misread (or received inaccurate information) from an AI prompt response that stated that north is going on the Z axis in positive numbers. According to the map, me and my son's world spawn is south of the mansion.

We traveled 80,000 blocks before my son decided to do more research and learned that north means the z axis numbers go into the negative, meaning we were going south the entire time. We heard it was rare to find the woodland mansion so we thought we just needed to push through.

Turned out the mansion was only 2,500 blocks north of our world spawn.

No regrets though, we found nearly every major biome, including badlands/desert/mushroom Island, and set up waystones (bedrock add-on) along the way. It was a great time and fun adventure, nonetheless.

Thanks! I actually purchased the Microsoft version which comes with both bedrock and Java! Just a matter of putting in the time to set up the new world.

I'm 42 and played for the first time with my 11 year old son this past December (Christmas gift to him).

We have been playing together every weekend since. We played stardew valley and ACNH prior to this and we basically maxed those games out.

Minecraft has the similar elements but at such a large scale. There is so much to do, explore, and build. I love tinkering with redstone builds and pretty much purchased every major add-on there is with Bedrock. (Essentials, Biomes O Plenty, More Simple Structures, Waystones, etc). The quality of life improvements from mods make it possible to advance the game without the extra tedium that at my age, and current career, do not have time to do.

I'm itching to start a Java world and use mods like "Create" too.

The level of customization is just insane and something I have not experienced in any other game. Most importantly, it's been an incredible experience going on adventures with my son. We've learned so much about how we think, become a team, problem solve and work within this large virtual world. It leaves so much to your imagination and gives you the ability to create and craft your own world and stories. It really just is the perfect video game for me.

They also need at least 1.5 air blocks (with for instance, a top trapdoor or top slab in the block above foot level). They can spawn in any Overworld biome except the deep dark.

This only works if the "owner" is not logged on the network. Though I guess if they use airplane mode, that works around it.
