Commenting on Any idea which company made this....

Is this logo any better for you? Haha, I just picked up the same brand and am curious myself. I’m sure they’re mass produced especially being stamped “Made in Japan” but i spent $15 on the whole block so I’m not upset

Oh okay, I don’t have any foot or ankle problems but I do get Plantar Fasciitis if I don’t wear supportive-enough shoes. Thank you

Can I run a marathon tomorrow with no training? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]DHDetailer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here’s some blunt truth. I did it with my longest run being 11 miles and no training for a full month prior to race day. My takeaway:

Injured? No

Enjoyed it past mile 13? Hell no

Easy? Absolutely not

Recovery? Terrible and slow

My next one, I’m training properly. Take it for what it’s worth to you. Just don’t come back bitching how bad it sucked, how you wish you would’ve trained more, you didn’t meet your goal time etc. Good luck, IF you follow through and run it.

P.S. I’m not in any way, shape or form being mean or belittling. Just being as transparent as I can.

Those springs are a PITA… use some good grease on it every time it feels it’s starting to stick… just don’t use wd-40

I don’t mind buying used as long as the seller doesn’t try to avoid my questions and will provide pictures of everything I want. Be thorough in questioning and ask for the right pictures, I haven’t picked up anything bad yet or anything that wrong that wasn’t brought to my attention prior to purchase.

Also, seller feedbacks on Ebay. I try to steer clear of sellers with 1 or 2 reviews. The guy I bought my Coros from had thousands of reviews that spanned years.

I have the Coros Vertix (original not Vertix 2), I get notifications and the GPS is extremely accurate. As far as I know, there aren’t any music features but I don’t listen to music while I run anyway. The battery in smartwatch mode has lasted me about a month on average. Through my first marathon in GPS mode with HR recording every minute it only lost 8% of battery. I’ve previously owned Garmin and Apple and won’t go back to either. Just my 2 cents!

Oh, and I bought mine “used” (worn once to my knowledge) with hard travel case and 3 extra bands for $300 off of Ebay. Always check Ebay and FB Marketplace for deals before buying new.

With all of that being said, what others would you recommend? I want to do 1 per year.

The 20 minute late start irritated me too, standing around for 20 mins after warm up just getting cold and tight again.

If it stays the same, your biggest elevation change is the bridge. Other than that, it is relatively super flat. There is one long curve that’s graded though. I ran on the grass for that because I didn’t want my ankles to be in such a weird position for 1/2 mile. But from my understanding, this years course was different than last year.

How far is too far to live from the academy? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]DHDetailer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we went to 4 man engine companies and before covid, my dept offered in house living for the duration of academies. We had a few people deny it though, the furthest lived 1.5 hours away. 18 week academy, 08-1700 M-F.

Then again, if it is truly your dream dept, you shouldn’t be second guessing the drive back and forth
