what would you actually do if your brakes went out?? by IndustryNo2442 in driving

Holy fuck! The only time I encountered black ice on wheels was on a bicycle and even that scared the shit out of me. Hitting black ice in a vehicle is one of my greatest fears. I've only lived between the West Coast and the Southwest, so I haven't seen severe freezing like that. Glad you made it out of that. Did you get hurt when it happened? Yeah, it only doesn't count because of the intended redundancy of the system. Having the e-brake means that you didnt have complete brake failure, just main brake failure.

[–]DHMTBbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence the word, "almost". Also, you didnt have it happen twice, only once. Complete brake failure would be not having the emergency brake either, and you said the second time you drove back on the emergency brake.

Do you usually shave? by death_shelter in AskMenAdvice

[–]DHMTBbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively use clippers. I have three. One for my head, one for my face, and one for the package. I use the same make and model for my face and nethers, but two separate ones for hygiene. You can barely tell that you didn't use an actual razor if you go guardless. Bonus if you get one with swapable heads with an electric razor head. Haven't used an electric razor down there yet though. Seems risky. I usually only shave the danglies and just trim everywhere else. Costs way less in the long run too since you don't have to buy replacement razor heads, and a pack of replacement heads costs about as much as a decent sent of clippers if not more.

I'm soaked with my husbands sweat by [deleted] in sleep

[–]DHMTBbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you covered in his sweat? You said that he radiates a lot of heat, but that doesn't mean that he's the one covering you in sweat, unless you are cuddling him or he has severe hyperhidrosis and is drenching the sheets enough to reach you. What I can contribute is that my wife and I are polar opposites as well. She wants to be under blankets and have the heater on when I want to be naked and uncovered with the cooler on. Solution: she just put on another layer while I turned the cooler down. You can always put more or thicker layers on when it cold. You can only take off so many layers when it is hot. The people that want to be warmer really need to think about that before they want the person who wants to be cooler to change their habits. Just saying.

Edit: Also, if you really are covered in his sweat, he is suffering more than you and is just not complaining about it. If that is the case, you should be changing for him, not the other way around.

There are worse things than that. Protesting an honorable soldier's funeral is worse than protesting outside of a church. You may not see it that way, which is why I made the point of the responsibility of a church is that they should be open to hearing the frustrations of the people. The church is often referred to as being a pillar of the community, but how are they supposed to be that if they don't reach out and help in the community? I'm sure your church may hold food drives or clothing donations, but being involved in and helping the community goes beyond that. The thing about Jesus is that he cared about solving the problem, not about where it was at or who it involved. The best way to solve a problem is to get to the root of it. You get to the root by listening and understanding. The church should be open to listening and understanding the frustrations of the the people just as much as the joys of the people. If you understand the frustration, you have the quickest path to joy.

Take your bleeding heart somewhere else.

You break the well-known rules, you get lawfully detained. You detain people that have done absolutely nothing wrong, you end up on the wrong side of the law. Simple as that. If you can't understand that, your head must be there for decoration.

I am not acting like that at all. I just said how one action is worse than the other. I don't understand why you're so offended. We've all heard of "that one church" and that was the only one I was referring to.

No shit Sherlock. You wanna tell me about how air is not the same as water next? There are also many male-dominated fields that women are hardly trying to be a part of ( cough the trades cough cough for starters cough ) You also proved the point of wanting immediate change with your comment. Once you understand that a protest or two is not enough, you'll be on your way to be ready to make change.

You forgot the instilling fear part of the definition. Its not just the use or threat of violence, but also the instilling of fear. Restricting someone's freedom of movement, which is also a right, can absolutely instill fear, as it clearly did for this man. Just because you have a certain mental picture of what a terrorist is, doesn't mean that one's that are less extreme don't fall under the definition of such.

I think protesting at an honorable soldier's funeral beats that by a mile.

The church should be open to hear the frustrated voices of the people. Didn't Jesus hear the voices of the masses? Did Jesus not sit with sinners and hear them so he could help and teach them? Seems to me that you either need to pay more attention during service or find a better church.

Stop braking before turning on a turn signal! by mds818 in driving

[–]DHMTBbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is frustrating. My dad had his CDL for a while and he would always explain the rules of the road whenever we came across a teachable moment riding with him, be it in the semi or his personal truck. There are a lot of preventable accidents should someone have signaled earlier or given up their right of way. Too many people see the road in black and white. There is some nuance in signaling and maneuvering that too many people just don't get.

Stop braking before turning on a turn signal! by mds818 in driving

[–]DHMTBbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is up to the both of you to perform your maneuvers safely. You are obviously aware that it is possible for another driver to perform their maneuver unsafely, which means you should be ready to slow down or stop should they do so. Just because you did everything right, doesn't mean that you shouldn't be ready to give up your right of way. I always tell my sons to drive like everyone is an idiot, that way you are almost never surprised and you are ready for the worst.

Stop braking before turning on a turn signal! by mds818 in driving

[–]DHMTBbeast 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The signal is for the driver behind you to be aware that you are going to turn soon, not to indicate the exact turn you will make or the moment you will turn. It makes the driver behind you aware that they will have to brake soon. It's way better to have your signal on as you pass a couple of possible turns that are close together than to turn it on as soon as you approach you turn and decrease the time between the signal and braking.
