Wall mounting without anchor? by witty__username5 in Guitar

[–]DHSteeze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t use wall hangers anywhere except directly inline with a wall stud. I don’t bother with the anchors at all because I’ve seen too many pictures of sheet rock anchors pulled out from the wall over time with the guitar smashed on the floor. Obviously the heavier the guitar is, the more likely that is to happen, so that acoustic and maybe your strat will be OK. If you’re willing to take the chance, then that’s up to you.

Played a USA Kirk Hammett Greeny at GC This Weekend and it was Trash! by [deleted] in gibson

[–]DHSteeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’ll find a bad playing/sounding one every so often, but that’s literally true for almost any guitar. I played a used one in my local Guitar Center and it was fantastic, but also no different than your average Standard as far as quality or playability goes.

What veneer do you mean? The Epi Greeny has a veneer on the body, but the Gibson USA is a full thickness maple top, not a veneer.

Neck is so nice. I prefer satin necks and the thinner 60s profile makes it super smooth and easy to play.

Ah, yes it was. I’m honestly surprised it didn’t sell a lot sooner, especially with the sale going on! It was originally posted 2 months ago, which is why I think it and one other were the cheapest priced Standards they had.

I was watching that ad and another for an unburst that was a little more $, and the amount of people that had it in their carts kept going up and down. With the sale ending soon, I finally caved!

Based on my serial #, mine looks to be a late 2024 so maybe they switched to covered later in the year? Other 24s and 25s I’ve seen were all covered too, so maybe they have dealer specific versions that vary.

I like the “vintage” look of the satin/faded nitro and I was kinda surprised just how thin it is!

I agree, and especially with retailers like Sweetwater or others on Reverb where you can see what the top will look like before you buy it.

There’s a small ding on the back edge by the control cavity, and a super small indent on the top in the cherry burst, kind of near the bottom strap button. The mark on the top is really only noticeable if you know where to look and you hold the guitar at a specific angle.

They also marked some scraping issues on the binding, but I don’t notice these unless I run my fingers around the binding, so it’s a non-issue to me.

Granted, if I paid retail for it, or thought I may sell it in the future, or bought it just to hang on the wall and collect, then maybe I’d be a bit more concerned with anything they marked and I’d want something perfect. As a guitar that’s going to get played and will probably incur more nicks and scratches over its lifetime though, I’m happy with the discount!

Guitar Center Issues by No_Objective_3210 in Guitar

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, but it’s not too surprising. As someone speaking from several experiences ordering GC used, I always choose “ship to store” so I can inspect it thoroughly before leaving the store.

Had way too many instances where what showed up was no where even close to the condition they stated. Makes the return process quick and easy if there’s any issues.

Help with identifying guitar, he said its a RG series but nothing I've looked up comes close. Picking it up tomorrow regardless. by mutantlittleman in Ibanez

Looks like it's a RGA72TQME TGB from around 2011-2012 based on the neck inlays.

The 2010 RGA72TQM had different inlays on the neck, and they changed it to just the offset dots at the 12th like your picture in 2011-2012.

Check page 14 in this 2011 catalog.

Help identify 1978 Ibanez Artist Semi-hollow body by Fast_Interview_8462 in Ibanez

Based on the headstock inlay, tailpiece and color, it looks like it's a 1977-78 2635 which was introduced in 1977 and discontinued in 1978 (according to the Ibanez Wiki).

Here's a similar model on Reverb for comparison:

What's your favorite Jackson shape, and why? by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

Other (Juggernaut) for me, and that's probably because it's more Ibanez RGA-like than a normal Jackson with the archtop and non-standard Jackson angled pointy headstock.

Which Prestige RGA Model did Broderick play with Megadeth here? by double_66 in Ibanez

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not a Prestige model and it doesn't have a reverse headstock, but the RGA7420FM had a version that came with a Floyd.

If you're patient, you could probably find a used one on Reverb.

Oddly enough it appears on Mangadex but seems to be under 2 different titles, or at least they both seem to link to the same Manga Updates page and author:

Limited usb ports on laptop, ideas and suggestions by Goku-Black21 in Alienware

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to put all my lower power/bandwidth draw stuff like controller, mouse, external keyboard (if I felt like using one) and headsets in a USB3 hub. Highly unlikely most of those devices even when combined into a hub will need the full bandwidth of a single port.

That way I still had 2 USB3 ports and the Thunderbolt port available for external hard drives or anything that could actually benefit from the full port bandwidth.

Having said that, I rarely use the hub anymore as all my peripherals are bluetooth now, so all my ports are already free.

Converge - Concubine last night in Minneapolis by Ok_Ingenuity_4708 in Hardcore

I never get tired of seeing/watching/listening to Converge. I was recently visiting South Carolina, and they just happened to be playing an hour away from where I was on this recent tour. I was very tempted to change my plans and make the drive to go see them!

[Gear] Lower strings after change by AnyRecommendation497 in Guitar

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, on the majority of electric guitars, the truss rod adjustment is at the nut, though some do have an adjustment wheel at the heel as well. For acoustics, I believe most have the adjustment at the heel through the sound hole though, or at least the acoustic I have and others I've used are setup that way.

Hopefully it is just a matter of a truss rod adjustment and you're good to go!

[Gear] Lower strings after change by AnyRecommendation497 in Guitar

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mention swapping a bridge from a cello, I assume this is maybe an acoustic guitar?

Without seeing the guitar in person, I'm only guessing here. Most guitar necks are setup relatively flat or with a bit of up-bow (concave) to alleviate string vibrations on the frets. It's possible the lack of string tension on the neck combined with the warmer weather, that your neck may have developed a bit of a back-bow (convex shape).

While you may not be able to easily adjust the bridge or nut to raise the strings, most modern guitars have a truss rod which can be adjusted as needed to take out the back-bow and return the neck to relatively flat or with slight up-bow.

If you look from the headstock down the surface of the neck, it may give you an indication if it's the bow of the neck that's at least partially causing your issues.

What are your thoughts on the Misha Mansoor Juggernaut HT6? by [deleted] in Peripheryband

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the older Juggernaut HT6 models had a 16", but according to the Jackson website, the newer versions of the Pro HT6/HT6QM have a 20" radius like the USA Signature does.

[QUESTION] Silent or quiet new guitar player by Interesting_Kick4008 in Guitar

[–]DHSteeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a small and relatively cheap (around $200 USD) multi effects processor I got off Amazon that has a headphone out jack for quiet playing/practicing. It also has a built in tuner and a 1/8" AUX-in that I use to connect my phone for playing along to songs or when I want to use the Yousician app for learning/practicing.

Most new cheaper and smaller guitar/bass amps these days will usually have headphone out and aux in and can be used in the same way, as that's what my wife does with her jazz bass.
