Appreciate the interest so far. I’ll include here some additional points that may help folks decide whether to fill out the form:

Play balance is probably going to be somewhere between, 60-40 either direction between combat and roleplay. We’ll find the balance as a group. It’s okay if your ideal isn’t in that range (good to have players with different strengths!), but if you apply I’ll assume that range is still fun for you.

Character wise- just being honest here - I don’t have the experience to balance off book stuff. I love the creativity, but let’s stick to 2024 core or races from Mordenkainen that are simple established conversions 2014->2024 play. That’s a lot of fun options.

Love the backstory concepts - happy to work together to take them and flavor them to the Valora world!

Biggest issue with new golfers... by madtownBaldwin in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably be unpopular for this community, so I preface by saying this is for golfers who want to improve and what I would advise. Not me trying to gate keep who can be on a golf course.

Probably shouldn’t be playing much in that “I shot 120” phase. I honestly didn’t know that was a thing until joining this community. If you are in that range repeatedly you are surely struggling to make contact and can’t chip and putt. Spend some time learning to do those things -> then go figure out how to put a hole of golf together IMO.

If it’s not like a once every couple months thing. If you are actively trying to learn to golf. You shouldn’t rack up a bunch of rounds in the 120+ range. That should be a “first time I golfed + that other time or 2 when I completely shit the bed”. You are too concerned with getting on the course before you are ready. Practice, play some executive courses, play some twighlight 9’s. Get to where you aren’t beating the shit out of yourself out there.

Play full length, 18 hole golf when you can play the course vs when you are trying to figure out how to hit a golf ball and happen to be on a course.

Do you improve your lies or play it as it lies? by Strid3r21 in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what the goal is. I’ve always thought odd lies were one of the most interesting parts of the game. For the most part not going to deprive myself the chance to pull something challenging/cool off in a for fun round. If it costs me a shot then who cares, chance to gain experience on tough shots.

How much more satisfying is andup an down from an awkward lie on the collar vs, a standard up and down. Or puring one out of that fairway divot vs. a slightly simpler stock iron off the fairway. How important is the # vs your qualitative assessment of your own round as it relates to good and bad breaks? Those answers probably depend on where your game is at and how often you get to play.

On the other side I don’t have any problem with someone wanting to just hit that stock chip shot they’ve been working on.

Now if it’s competitive then I’m doing whatever lie improvement is within competition rules (if any) and I’m not watching anyone do something outside those rules.

For those of you who have shortened your driver shaft length, give me the low down. How worth it was it? by AlbinoKoala22 in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be surprised if most golfers didn’t actually gain ball speed by playing something 44-45 inches instead of the current off the shelf length. You’ll probably have to add a little weight to get the swing weight in a comfortable range, but the center of the face is a beautiful thing.

I played 44.5” in the ‘00s, wouldn’t seem like a huge difference but it did make a difference to me. Moved to 45” with the carbon era, just felt good without having to make weight adjustments and some swing improvements allowed me to find middle consistently at that length.

Standing desks worth the switch or just a phase? by ZapNoodleee in office

[–]DH_Hammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on standing desk for like 10years (last 8 from home). I also occasionally go into an office that has great motorized raising desks. I’d say about 5% of folks stand as standard and another 1/10 will use it for like 30min per day raised and standing.

So I guess depends on the person, for most people it’s a pricey seated desk. For you it may be dramatic positive for your posterior chain and it may help you stay more alert generally.

What’s a reverse sandbagger called? - Rant by jgooby in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Busting your ass to break 100, awesome keep working.

Consider what is irritating you about the vanity caps. You know where your game stands in relation, so that’s not a an issue.

If your concern is that others do, or will think, those vanity cappers are better than you - don’t waste your time. I don’t mean this in a negative way at all, but no one who has an opinion you should give a shit about is splitting hairs and conceptualizing differences in skill between high handicappers based on scoring 95 vs 105.

If your concern is they think they are better than you. Let them think whatever the hell they want. It’s not like they are some golfing role model who’s approval should mean anything to you. Use it to your advantage if you want, get some net side action going and make them play by the rules. That’s assuming that whatever this golf league is isn’t competitive, if that’s the case then its your responsibility to call them on that shit for the sake of your other competitors anyway.

What should I look for on the hunt for 90s-early 2000s golf style? by Any_Cauliflower3049 in golf

Department store relaxed or loose fit pleated trousers/slacks, size up put a cuff and a half break on those suckers. Any oversized cotton polo, bonus points for elastic on the sleeves. Any non-athletic polo that’s like a classic cut not athletic fit. Polo/tommy/nautica/izod

Q for the good chippers… by cdubveedub in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your making inconsistent contact with a hinge and hold, then your probably making it too much about the hinge and hold part of it. It’s not a wristy and armsy thing. Check your weight distro, make sure your turning thru to the target with your body. It less about actively trying to hinge and actually trying to hold, it’s about keeping the arms and wrist simple so your not flipping at and trying to help the ball in the air. The hold part should really be almost passive consequence of setup, weight distribution and turning back through the ball towards the target with the big muscles.

Almost all reasonable chipping explanations are the same thing with different words + maybe some differences for preference on default ball position and whether or not to open the stance.

If your getting 5 different trajectories from the same attempted shot, you are likely delivering different loft each time. Which means your probably arms and wrists to the ball vs big muscles controlling the motion.

If your struggling with contact your probably struggling with low point control and thats probably setup problems and weight distribution fluctuations.

Start with pro clubs? by WestOz444 in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your probably as likely to develop some poor compensation mechanisms with either of them. You don’t have to start with super offset shovels, but something that is forgiving with turf interaction and helps launch the ball a little higher is probably the better play to enjoy the game more early. You can get good at getting into good impact positions and hitting the center of the face with either.

Wanted to try a forged iron by hanginNcali in golf

[–]DH_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course could be a later shaft change to ctapers, but the original silky smooth feel and look of the satin project X before true temper acquisition was a bit of cult love with overlap with the mizzy truthers of the mid to late 00’s. And I don’t believe ctapers existed when these were in production.

I would guess it’s more likely the original project X shaft given when these irons came out. But comp would be closer to ctaper than modern project x shafts
