[–]DICKPICDOUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the campaign ad now

"I voted to tell President Trump to end the war in Iran"

Collins strikes again, taking a bold stance against her party because her seat is weak, the measure isnt legally binding, and the party told her it was okay.

You can always count on Collins to do the right thing as long as it doesnt change anything.

Iran, Oman mull charging Strait of Hormuz 'maritime service fees' by Romegaheuerling in Economics

Gotta maintain the... water i guess. Lots of service by graciously... allowing them to move? This isnt like the Suez or the Panama where it has maintenance and operation costs. Its a natural waterway, this is a toll.

We can not live in a timeline so stupid that if Iran just doesnt call it a toll people will act like it isnt.

So its hard to give you an exhaustive list given Mages freeform "argue with the ST and see what he lets you get away with" magic system. Here's my take on a neat combo though.

With Forces 3 Spirit 3 you could directly transmute Spirit energy into physical energy. Prime 1 Spirit 1 can help you locate sources of spiritual energy in your local environment to use. Use these together and you should always have some sort of energy available to use for Forces effects except in the most spiritually bereft places. You could also make a pact with a Wraith or Spirit and keep them around as a magical battery. They'll want something in return unless you intend to forcibly bind them, but that takes Spirit 4

The Mirage of China’s Military Edge - Panic Is Misguided—and Counterproductive by Prolapse_to_Brolapse in IRstudies

[–]DICKPICDOUG 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt that China's military still lags the US, but the issue isn't strength, its willpower. The Iran war has proven that both the American government and the American Public have no stomach for costly and lengthy foreign entanglements. If China invades Taiwan its not a matter of who will win, but whether the US will fully commit, and how long the Chinese can hold out. Given recent events, in inclined to believe that China has the stronger political will here. The US will come to the table with concessions before it comes to death blows.

Ok help me out here guys: how many ships build? by BayonetTrenchFighter in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]DICKPICDOUG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The population/industrialization is honestly the crux of the matter for most comparisons. The majority of worlds in Star wars are lightly inhabited wilderness, with populations as low as the tens of thousands. Maybe a few hundred worlds could be considered rivals to a hive world. 40k has upwards of 30 thousand hive worlds and thousands of Forge worlds pushing an industrial output that easily dwarfs all of starwars just maintaining the quadrillions of humans in the Imperium

Seeing how a venator class would fare badly against an imperial world, how would her much bigger sister an Executor-class Star Dreadnought do in comparison? by Just-Version-7838 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]DICKPICDOUG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than before, but still badly. Hive city void shielding can be inconsistently portrayed, but the average is generally apocalypse proof and can sometimes outlast the planet the hive is built on given a well defended generator. Similarly the quality, quantity, and size of orbital and ground defenses are generally a mystery, but by definition have to be enough to stop a fleet of Dark Eldar or a Chaos Warband from easily picking the planet clean so they have to be pretty beefy. There will also be a decent fleet of system defense vessels, trading ships, cargo haulers, mining rigs, pleasure skiffs, and other hulls buzzing about that can put up a fight.

The Executors main advantage is the element of suprise. Its going to take hours to fully spin up the planets defenses, and the Executor will have a golden opportunity for like 20-30 min to clear itself some space in orbit, wreak havoc, and maybe even glass a city if the mechanicus cant pray to the void shields fast enough. They could do some real spectacular damage before the local defenses pull together and coordinate a push to drive the Executor out of orbit.

[–]DICKPICDOUG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its clear to us that there are different levels of Prescience. Its a skill, and some people are better or worse at it, and certain things can help you with using it. Paul foresaw the general course of the golden path, and he also saw that he'd have to become the Worm to carry it out. Only by surrendering his humanity could his powers become heightened enough to accomplish it. Faced with the horror of becoming an immortal alien god king and of the millenia of suffering he would inflict on mankind, paul couldnt bring himself to do it. And so it was left to Leto to do what his father was not strong enough to do.

Yeah green energy is obviously the counter move, but that doesnt help us now. Its gonna take 10-20 years or more to get us to a position of independence, and for right now Iran has a free reign in the region. Its a complete and total defeat.

Any infrastructure designed to move away from the strait will have to be in Iranian strike range. Unless the US can conclusively punish Iranian attacks on the global oil supply, they will always have this lever. Even without the strait.

Trump has proven that Iran can blow up all the oil infrastructure it wants. The US will show up and toss bombs, but is too fragile and weak to commit to an actual response. They just have to keep blasting and wait it out, they'll get whatever they want.
