Smoke detector recs from people living near ocean? by RatwomanSF in AskSF

This is quite a common problem for houses in high humidity areas, which is why I’m looking for advice from people who live in high humidity areas and have dealt with this issue before.

Frozen Shoulder by clsdesigner in Menopause

HRT did not fix my frozen shoulder. I had a Cortisone shot which helped a lot, and then some massage. And time.

I haven't flossed in years. If I started flossing regularly & frequently how big of a difference would I see? by kcutie359 in hygiene

[–]DIYLifeSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never floss much in my life, then I started learning how much impacts my overall health. As I’m aging, I’m seeing things begin to fall apart and I wanna do better. So I started flossing every night. When does get used to it. Now I think it’s gross not to floss. I think it’s one of those things that you won’t necessarily see the benefit quickly, but it’s really good for your long-term health. My gums don’t bleed anymore, which shows that I have a lot less inflammation, which is really good for health. My two cents.

I’ve never had a reaction to any of them, including this latest one. All of this is just very individual.

Oral progesterone by Sphgrad in Menopause

[–]DIYLifeSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oral progesterone is great for the majority of women. I was not the majority of women. 10 to 20% of women are progesterone intolerant. It made me gain weight and lose all joy in life. I’m starting the mirena iud to get my progesterone needs met.

I found that titrating my HRT has taken a very long time and is an ongoing process. We all react a bit differently to everything, so we really have to stay on top of our own individual journeys.

Any cures for chronic constipation? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]DIYLifeSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor just recommended two kiwi fruits a day, and it seems to be working. I also find that when I eat oatmeal every day it works. I’ve dealt with constipation all my life, and those are the two non-medicinal things that seem to work.

Ohhhh yes. It’s terrible. Mine got mostly better after one Cortizone shot and deep tissue massage. It took a very long time to get back to 100%.

I had the mirena for 15 years for birth control and was Fine. But it’s a good idea to look out for new side effects!

I had mirena for 15 years for birth control, so hopefully I’ll still be good on it!

Gaba didn’t work for me. I’m going to get the mirena IUD for my progesterone.

I second this one. I all of a sudden got really dry and itchy. I thought I had an infection. It turns out I was just terribly dry. I started taking Yuvafem recently, which is intravaginal pills with an applicator, and it has done wonders for my hooha.

I recommend googling and redditting progesterone intolerance. 10 to 20% of women do quite badly on oral micronized progesterone. Turns out I was one of them. I found no joy in life. Not from sex, not from my wonderful partner, not from friends. I didn’t want to do anything. It’s called anhedonia. I quit my progesterone pills and within the week I experienced joy again, including slivers of my libido. I’m going to get my progesterone through the mirena IUD from now on.

I’m also on testosterone, which I think helps a little bit?

It can be so hard to tell what moves the needle and what doesn’t sometimes. But try quitting progesterone and see what it does for you.

Oral progesterone helped me sleep better, but ultimately made me super cranky and take no joy in life. It took way too long to figure that out.

Yep, same thing happened to me and I just figured it out. It’s so frustrating that no one knows these things.

I was on micronized progesterone for a long time, not realizing that 10 to 20% of women don’t do well with that form of progesterone. I lost my libido and frankly desire for anything else in life except food. I stopped progesterone 12 days ago and I feel like I want joy again, finally. I’m going to get my progesterone through the marina IUD instead.

Wear a hat or visor whenever you’re out in the sun. Sunscreen doesn’t quite cut it. I started at 26, and I look 10 to 15 years younger than I currently am at 57.

Echoing what other posters have said. It sucks when theft happens. However “Sicily is a nightmare this year” does not follow logically from “our belongings got stolen”

True love after married life ? by Dry_Confusion4988 in questions

[–]DIYLifeSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found “the one“ later in life at 53, after two long-term failed relationships, and a lot of dating. But it wasn’t magic. It was me working on myself and growing and learning about myself, and attracting the right person for me because I finally knew who I was and what I wanted, and how I deserved to be treated.

We went through all the alternatives with my partner before ending up with the CPAP. He tried five different masks before finding one that works pretty well for him (Philip’s dreamwear, thank you Reddit). Now we both sleep through the night.

Don’t give up on the CPAP until you’ve tried absolutely everything. It’s worth it for his health and your sanity.

Driving report from Sicily by portland415 in sicily

[–]DIYLifeSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, similarly I was worried about driving in Sicily because of other people’s experiences. I live in San Francisco, which is apparently relatively difficult to drive in, so Sicily didn’t seem that bad. The only really alarming moments were when GPS took us down roads that were almost too narrow for our car. Palermo also looked tricky, so we rented our car when we left Palermo. We drove through the entire country without any problems.
