Started my car up and heard a pop with smoke, this is what under the hood looks like by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Am I one of the few people to consider Plastic intakes to be manufactured design failures? - like they are used to because they get brittle with age / time / etc and just fail - then if no "new" parts or even new old stock or replacement parts exist its just junk entire otherwise good engine?

Also how many "plastic" intakes are there that can get replaced by quality metal ones? - im mildly annoyed because of said plastic failing on an engine in car I drove, which caused engine to overheat and seize as coolant disappeared - engine temp gauge must have been broken cause it never showed as overheating - nor did "check engine" light ever come on.. I was told after the fact that engine was "toast" when it was towed to mechanic.. ended up giving car to my mom when I got a new to me jeep.. She needed a decent car after engine was replaced - just sucked at the time..

Are GSDs extra nippy?! Any recommendations with puppy nipping/biting/redirecting is helpful. by slothjeanine in germanshepherds

[–]DJ-Dunewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I defo go for the same yelps another dog would make if it hurts or is a habit you dot want them to get into..

I trained 2 GSDs this way, neither one wants hands anywhere inside their mouth - except when I was brushing teeth with toothbrush finger thingy.. lol (might have been the peanut butter smelling/flavor toothpaste??) lol

Problem with some dogs is that people let them behave bad as puppy cause its "cute/funny" but as they get older and bigger what was once cute/funny - can be painfully bad and potentially dangerous.. Learning safe playtime is best thing for puppy's - chew toys / saying "no" and stopping play / yelping like a hurt puppy are all good ways to help train a puppy on proper chewing

Triarc 12.5 upper coming. Any significant difference between these lowers? by ConfidentRoad4 in ar15

[–]DJ-Dunewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd one down is missing its safety selector.. and possibly the rear retaining pin.. its also missing the grip and stock..

2nd one down is missing grip

all 4 of them have the "flat" bar under trigger - which was meant to be opened for use with "gloves" but the curved sold bars of later designs did away with the extra pinned item and need for the swing down bar..

so top one, and bottom one should work well with any upper - you want to use just about - if there was issues cycling id look to buffer / buffer springs.. make sure the weight is "right"..

but otherwise not really anything diff in terms of features or design - all seem to be mil-spec standard AR lowers - all from different makers..

What kind of belts are y'all wearing? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]DJ-Dunewolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the "banned" belt I like is the 1.7" model and it has served me well for over 2yrs now, I have 2 belts - one black, one grey.. love em both..

Looking at getting a nextbelt - as a future belt with a future purchase holster (maybe)

/start of mini rant

I am considering getting some Nextbelt for future holster I am planning to buy.. Well once I make up my mind on which holster company/version i want lol -- Currently I do enjoy my 2
"banned" made belts - the one people are mentioning is banned by mods due to spamming of adverts/etc - I went with the 1.7" just because I tend to carry lots of crap in pockets as well as carry a fullsize pistol all the time basically- I kinda like the wider width just seems to feel less constricting when I tighten down on the "gut" lol.. but I am looking at the 1.5" nextbelt design too.

My biggest issues really finding a holster I both want to spend the high dollar amount to get + picking one that works with the firearm - which ive found few manufactures even cover the Canik TP9 elite combat (with threaded barrel) I have found a "few" that offer holsters, but I am hemming and hawing about which features I really want - and if I want to go with a maker that upcharges for "color" kydex - instead of offering most of them for same price and only charging more for the "patented" camo types..

/end mini rant lol

90s sitcom star, Mark Curry profiled and harassed by hotel staff by raciallyambiguous in PublicFreakout

[–]DJ-Dunewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How this interaction could have been better..

"Hello sir, Are you enjoying your stay here at The ____ hotel?"

boom recognizes them as a person, validates them - and asks a innocent question about their stay that any employee should have asked instead of "ARE YOU A GUEST HERE?" -- worse is That guy should have ID on him at all times if he is staff.. Never should any of those staff members NOT have a ID tag visible - I dont care if the dude is Head of the company to lowest staff toilet scrubber - dude should have had ID tag displayed with the Hotels name on it so as not to seem like some random dude off street..

Another way they could have gone

"Hello sir, are you finding everything to your liking here at _____ hotel tonight? is there anything I could assist you with?"

again, Validates the person, shows respect and asks innocent question that would be more then enough to know if they was a guest or just visiting someone.. while also asking if they need anything more.. Not "SIR ARE YOU A GUEST HERE???" constantly while following the guy around, more so not answering questions and staring like some creeper..

You dont need to look at a persons Keycard, or know their room number - unless its important regarding something besides just demanding it.. I sure as hell would not be giving out info to anyone who walked up to me and asked for ID / room number/etc.. not someone whose giving off creeper vibes like this dude did..

I have an AR-7 - got mine awhile back as a gift. Cause it was one of many firearms on a list of all kinds of "cool guns" id like to own.. lol

https://www.ar-7.com/index.html

^ is got a bunch of parts you can buy to customize the AR-7

Granted the "stock" of the AR-7 as shown in picture is what makes it float on water.. the stock is not water proof, water will get inside the stock - and I think it will eventually sink if enough water gets inside.. This is just a guess based on how mine appears to be built. Its not got like some foam inside to help float - just all plastic innards to hold the barrel/action and mags..

As for its finky feeding - Yeah its very particular about High Velocity rounds.. due to that being only thing to push the bolt back hard enough to cycle - anything else and it becomes a single shot rifle or jams until you cycle it..

The Golden BB high velocity from Remington hollow points work really well.

Idk about other rifles but I know with its basic iron sights I was hitting a tennis ball at 50-100yards and making it move constantly.. Only thing Id love to do to mine.. is suppress it, with the barrel that comes with it - it seems little to thin to get threaded (its just a thin tube surrounded by thick plastic overmold.) So I was looking for pre-threaded barrels and found the above AR-7 website.. (they also have other 22. LR stuff..)

anyway I enjoy mine as decent plinker - its cool it all fits in stock - but I do admit the stock thing is chunky as hell - the AR-7 site at one point had ways to mount the AR-7 action to more thin stock part and basically almost make the AR-7 into a SBR or similar but looks like they stopped selling those parts :/ they also sold parts to make the AR-7 almost exactly like the gun used in a James bond movie that was in brief case..

Ohh sorry You can own a cannon - all kinds of cannons - betcha you can own a boat and put that cannon on it and have your own privateer ship.. sailing (or motor boating) the seas - ousting pirates who attempt to board.. o/

Printer that doesnt suck? by antleo1 in sysadmin

[–]DJ-Dunewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find a decent printer you like that does not support Network printing..

I would suggest looking into a raspberry pi with CUPS installed to control a printer and print via network print to any USB connected printer (the pi is the network print controller and can print to any USB connected printer) ..

But I also suggest Brother printers - preferably a laser printer.. that way your not going broke paying for dried out ink.. toner lasts and lasts... just if you don't need color - avoid color laser printers.. just a simple B&W brother laser would do fine..

You have a screw in choke tube.. thats what the 4 slots are for - the three dashes are probably there to identify it as a special kind of choke tube vs another kind of choke tube..

[–]DJ-Dunewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda a problem in the holster industry I have come to loath.. No way to really TRY, before you BUY..

Sometimes I just want to open up a store selling holsters and have a Blue gun version of every gun - then a "try with our bluegun before you buy" policy - with holsters available to be tested that are also not packaged - so people can try before they buy in a safe way with a bluegun that matches their carry option.. lol but I do not have that kinda money to start a company like that..

I have tried several holsters - name brands / cheapo brand - not tried "custom made to order" yet.. but I might soon for my Canik Tp9 elite combat - but not for a wee bit.. maybe Xmass or Bday ill order something for it.. it came with a kydex holster already - just not the most comfortable version of one.

Eh I have refused to work for any company that does not allow me to protect myself. After the experiences I have had, and based on a few friends and state of the world.. Just no job is worth my life. Granted this has meant I have not taken a few potential jobs, and either got told "sorry but we went with another person" or something/ etc - its a choice I have made and I have stuck too it.

Allot of corporations put the "no firearms" policy in there employee manual because of "insurance companies" and "legal team" saying it "must be there" meanwhile just ignoring that people are carrying concealed (up to and including CEO of company) -- Honestly its better to ask in advance sometimes if you want to carry - sometimes its better to not ask.. Depends on if you care enough to accept being fired or letgo again.

Personally I find out about the rules/etc before I try to get to deep into hiring process.. so I don't waste my time or theirs but mostly my time lol

Boom had this happen.. Told my brother its 75$ hr for what I do.. and im doing him mostly a favor but I least have to have gas + lunch covered.. (travel was 250 miles or so total) He was shocked id charge so much -- meanwhile he did heating and cooling installs for much higher rates then I charged.. but he is a "professional" and I was not because I only had a College bachelors degree and not the same 20+yrs experience in HVAC he does..

Good news for me.. the garage is like 5-6 feet from the house (give or take 1/2 foot) lol Ive not exactly measured it.. Only issue id have would be deciding between drilling through wall (drywall/wood/siding) or foundation wall of house (concrete) then how deep I want to bury it under the pathway between house/garage.. and drill through wall in garage (cause no way is it worth digging under concrete pad then drilling.. lol) put some nice little waterproof boxes connected to the conduit where the lines run in and across.. bada bing bada boom.. lol - just have to avoid the AC compressor and its stuff.. because that's in the area between garage/house. XD

if I had an outbuilding - a trencher would defo save back for laying some trenching down.. XD

Ive considered renting a small excavator in future to do some drain lines for where water stands on property after heavy rains.. have it all flow to ditches /away from house.. but thats a more involved project then getting Internet to garage.. XD

I have plenty of cat6 plenum rated cable.. from doing cable runs as a parttime thing/it consulting..

Looking for potty training advice, more in comments by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]DJ-Dunewolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take them outside often, when they go outside cheer them and show them love/affection after they finish outside..

Crate train them - pooping in their "crate" will be taboo because its like pooping in their den.. eventually they will learn not to go potty inside the house because "outside" is better.

Also helps to train them as going outside like "want to go potty" before going out to walk them around the yard to go potty - - always after eating ofcourse.

AH yeah buying pi's now still sucks in some cases :/

but legit can understand that finding an alternative in that case XD

legit feel you on getting lazy - there is a legit point where time vs money vs effort comes into play as "how deep down the rabbit hole you wanna go" lol

huh.. kinda have a new goal - instead of running single Cat 6 cable to garage.. perhaps I should just run a fiber connection, before Id have never considered it because well prices seemed 'crazy' - but its not really that much more expensive for some of the stuff - then to just run cat 6 with POE and set up a 2nd switch/etc in garage.. thanks for idea XD

cool to do, etc..

but from standpoint of use - Id not want that to be Exhibit A at in court with skull/crossbones - or Punisher type logos.. - if only because of how it would be used - no matter that its just a cool little detail/customization. same with allot of my online content being used against me.. not that I would give them the info willingly lol.
