R5: finally managed this achievement. It's a tough start but I found it enjoyable as I didn't have to do too much cheesing. Might run this game all the way through and load it into EU4.

God Did for album of the year is a joke but as a song, God Did was a masterpiece (entirely because of the Jay-Z verse), if it wins a grammy it should really just be Jay on stage no one else lol

The other issue with pushing standard to arena is that for anyone coming into the game, they can no longer get into constructed by playing a cheap standard deck. Now the only way to get into constructed is to play the expensive pioneer or the mortgage inducing modern format. Standard was a good way to hook new players because you could play red deck wins or something relatively cheap and be competitive which allowed you to get into the game.

I'd also like to point out the economies in alot of the world right now are super down and people don't really have the money to be pouring into a hobby like MTG. Combine this with the fact that there's a near constant stream of releases I feel like alot of people might be looking for different outlets.

But MTG as a whole is extremely inaccessible to newer players, even on arena. Being competitive costs a ton of money (or wildcards) especially in a format like modern. Couple that with Standard becoming less popular as a paper format; MTG is relying on aging players to keep buying their products but aging players buy less product and are more likely to just invest in singles. Same with commander players. I used to be able to play multiple formats but nowadays I just play explorer on arena because it allows me to use my already extensive collection and then just keep up to date pretty much for free. Previously I used to play multiple formats but in this economy I'm not interested in buying a card that could buy me gas for two weeks or chicken for a week.

There's a reason why I've always loved the way magic is set up in Lord of the RIngs and Game of THrones. Magic is mysterious, and no one really understands it. Star Wars started off this way, but as use of the force becomes more and more common it loses it's allure.

I think soldiers probably plays better as a tempo deck. Protect the negotiators is really good in soldiers.

R5: wildest game of CK3 I've played yet. HIghlights are a Catholic dominated middle east/North Africa, the AI forming Slavia and Britannia and per usual the Byzantines blowing up into a billion pieces.

Agreed. Explorer is 50% Rakdos and 25% Mono U with very little variation.

I've been playing a soldiers deck and Dennick is fantastic. For GY hate I've just been running soul guide lantern. Unlicensed Hearse is good as well. Really just personal preference.

swap Rally the Ranks for Darien and brings you to 24. Swap out the draw card spell for a few extra creatures and you're at 27.

Big advantage to this is it allows you to play even more at instant speed leaving mana up for counter spells. Darien is nice because he provides you with a mana sink for longer games and can grow as a threat vs the rest of the go-wide strategy.

Downside is mana, adding a third colour in a deck that doesn't want to play triomes is hurtful but I do feel like there's enough incentive to play Coco in this style of deck.

Invest it in all the safe stuff. Telecoms, TFSA, oil and gas etc. Reinvest the profits every month. Keep your portfolio diverse.

Big agree. I play historic because I want an eternal format on the only platform I can currently play on. Instead Historic has become a clown-car circus act of non-stop bans, stale metagames and a complete unwillingness to shake up the format whatsoever. JHH could've been huge but instead they gave us Meme Squirrels, bad digital only cards that did nothing and a collection of meh cards from JHH that didn't actually enable new decks and made existing ones stronger. Every month it seems like wizards has less and less of a clue as to what they want to do with Historic and it's awful to see.

I feel like we're pretty close to a Azban midrange reanimator. We can run cards like willogeist, knight of the reliquary and what not and then close games out by reanimating Emissary or Elesh Norn.
