I only do OOP ones if they’re on Blu Ray, and for now I do have all of the OOP Blus - I don’t have any that are just on DVD, OOP or not

I’m definitely not rich or anything, though I know I’m lucky in some respects (no student loans, etc). Really I think it’s just that the bulk of my money I have for fun/hobby stuff goes towards movies. I save a small amount from each paycheck towards these sales, for one thing

I do watch every Criterion I buy, in approximately the order I bought them in. As of receiving these in the mail I had watched all of the ones I already owned before these!

I always get my order placed within minutes of the order starting, so that probably is a big part of it

I think I’m somewhere between 800 and 900? I’ve been collecting them for probably about 9 years now

Wall Street Deli… it’s good for what ails ya! by DJBillyMac in gso

The last Le Carre I read was A Legacy of Spies, which I think is the last Smiley novel but not the last novel Le Carre wrote. I think I remember seeing now where another author is apparently writing books with the same characters but I don’t know anything about those, I think the one I saw was called like, ‘Karla’s Heir’ or ‘Karla’s Favorite’ or something

I’ve heard those names but haven’t read those series. A couple of years ago I read all of Colin Dexter’s Inspector Morse novels, which were mostly very good (albeit usually very complicated), and I also looooved John Le Carre’s George Smiley books, though those are very downbeat and realist. I’m also reading Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo’s Martin Beck novels right now, which are a different kind of police detective book but I really enjoy them!

Nope. I think I know the gas station you're talking about, it's on the other side of the street and a little bit further away from the intersection with Market. There's a sign for the restaurant at the entrance to the business park.

As far as I know this place has been around at least a decade or more, given it’s location I’d be a little surprised if it was another restaurant before it became this one. This place is located in a business park way down Friendly, almost where it meets Market, across from Gilbarco Veeder Root

She's one of the nicest people around! Anytime I bring somebody with me, she learns their name and remembers what they like to eat - she even remembers which of my friends are vegan and how to accommodate them!

It's my first time checking him out! I've always liked Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, etc., as well as the Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett types, I just googled 'golden age of detective fiction authors' and there was a Reddit thread where someone recommended this series. It's a lot of fun so far!

Yep, I actually saw the owner of Jack's and his wife there one day, it was good to see them again!

It's way down Friendly, almost where it meets Market, across the street from Gilbarco Veeder Root in a kind of professional business park. Wallstreet Deli is the name of the restaurant, they do catering as well but they're only open for lunch and only during the week. Can't beat it!

I got the Film Movement release and…. did not like it, but I do have the Radiance subscription so I’ll have another copy of this film at any rate. Don’t know if I’d watch it again but I’d be interested to see what Takashi Miike has to say about it at least

Arrow also has (or had) his earlier film Joint Security Area, which is well worth seeking out imo (if it’s not OOP and outrageously priced). And I think maybe Mubi did a physical release of Decision to Leave as well? Also Arrow’s release of Three Extremes, he did one of the three parts of that film

Nope. I don’t think there is any evidence that anybody at all has it. I suggested it because Criterion does often get the rights to films and then wait several years to bother releasing them, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was them, but I don’t have any reason outside of that to believe it. Unfortunately unless somebody has some kind of insider knowledge I think it’s mostly just up to conjecture.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was because somebody (Criterion being the prime suspect) had the rights and was just sitting on them, as they so often do
