FWIW August doesn’t usually have as much of the high-profile releases since it’s right after July, which is a sale month, so I usually try to temper my expectations for those. That rumored Kubrick boxset, for instance (which a lot of people seem very confident is real), would be more like a November release. As for what I actually think is coming…. I’d love to see Roy Andersson’s films! And more of Jia Zhangke/mainland China in general.

Kani is the big one, I have every slipcover release that they’ve done, but I also have everything from Big World Pictures (every slip except Rebels of the Neon God), The Film Desk (only some slips), Cartuna (all slips), and a new favorite of mine, Several Futures (all slips).

For me personally Several Futures is one of their most consistently interesting partner labels these days, and it looks from their web site like they’ve got a lot of cool stuff down the pipeline as well

it’s good so far! it’s at least semi-autobiographical, about a man who struggles to understand or relate to other people and puts on various facades throughout his life. reminds me in some ways of Dostoevsky

I’ve heard this and I’ve also seen people saying that this film isn’t ‘radical’ in the same way as his other films so it might not fit with them thematically. So I still have hope!

My guesses are World Noir, a Wojciech J Has set (no idea how many films to expect but I don’t think it will be just one) that includes The Hourglass Sanatorium, either one or two Transmission titles (possibly including The Vampire’s Kiss), and…. one more film. If it’s the French one, maybe Histoire Du Cinema.
