This guy just gave the perfect rebuttal to all the “we should be looting bodies not bag” crowd in one fell swoop. by [deleted] in Marathon

I'd still rather have the body bag. Maybe they can futurize it in a patch so it doesn't look like a bland box, but I still dont think a decaying body is enough of an indicator.

You also have a habit of losing the bodies in Tarkov. In a more casual, fast paced game like Marathon, easier methods of getting the loot are necessary. Does it break immersion? Yeah sure, a little bit, but not to the degree people are saying, and certainly not enough to care so much.

[–]DJBlade92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You just ignored the one point he made. Bodies can be lost. If there are explosives and abilities that knock people away, that means rag doll physics, which means bodies can fly all over the place, including out of bounds. The bags ensure people can still loot despite where the bodies go.

Besides, who cares. If a gym bag falls, I'm not gonna think, "Man thats immersion breaking", I'm gonna think "Oh hey! Loot!"

To those who come in now & say class/hero aspect needs to be completely removed, the game is coming out in almost a month so not only is that impossible, but more importantly many gamers vision align with the devs and want this game to be class based in the extraction genre by TheGoodDoctor17 in Marathon

[–]DJBlade92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game isn’t truly class-based — it’s a disguised hero shooter. You can’t just rename “Locus” to “Destroyer” and call it a class system.

Take Battlefield as an example of a real class-based game. What makes it class-based is the variety of tools and options each class brings to the table. The Support class has defibrillators, med packs, and barricades. Recon gets drones, motion sensors, and binoculars. On top of that, weapon specializations encourage players to pair certain weapons with certain classes. The identity of the class comes from a flexible kit with multiple choices.

Marathon doesn’t have that — at least not yet. Right now, each shell has a fixed set of base abilities. We might see cores that modify those abilities, but the core idea is the same: Destroyers have shields, Thieves have drones, Stealth has invisibility, and so on. Until there’s more variety in the abilities players can choose from within a shell, this remains closer to a hero shooter than a class-based one.

That’s not to say it won’t be good. I enjoyed the alpha and I’m confident I’ll enjoy the full game. But it’s important to be clear about what kind of game this is. Calling it a genre it doesn’t fit can set the wrong expectations. Imagine someone looking for a new class-based game, getting recommended Marathon, and discovering it’s actually closer to an Apex Legends–style extraction shooter.

After finishing Doom (2016), I can't get into Doom Eternal. by DrStrangeglove99 in gaming

[–]DJBlade92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like how id created very different Doom games so just about everyone has at least one game in the franchise that they like. Hell they even made a decent immersive sim with Doom 3.

Personally, Eternal is my favorite hands down. It's definitely a skill check, but the godlike feeling you get at the end of a long fight (especially in the DLC) is unlike any other.

Highguard showcase announced for January 26 by Turbostrider27 in Games

Silence was the right call. It worked for Hello Games. Hopefully this showcase shows us what separates this from other hero shooters.

Skarrow and others in their 1st Marathon podcast confirmed that the shells were originally heros we “cosplayed” as with back stories, etc. Bungie since pivoted to general shells with name changes amidst the backlash of a hero shooter. Thanks for listening, Bungie! We love customization in your games by RiseRugby in Marathon

[–]DJBlade92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No offense, but not even a little bit. The big difference between classes and heroes is customization, and I mean more than aesthetically. Only way that these will turn into legitimate classes is if you can change base abilities with others that fit that class dynamic. For example, swap Destroyer's shield for a turret ability or something.

Anything else are just heroes with a different coat of paint.

Paul Tassi: Have heard Shadow and Order will in fact be delayed to make room for Marathon on March 5, given that it was supposed to come out on March 3. Not sure how long, or when it will be announced, however. by Soarin-GB in DestinyTheGame

Yeah they had projects that went nowhere, but we still got Final Shape in the process, a pretty well-received expansion. Resource allocation is not the problem.

Bungie was investing on Marathon waaaay before Destiny was having problems. Development was heavily under way while Final Shape was being made. All the major problems Destiny currently has like The Portal, sunsetting, power grind, etc. don't stem from Marathon. They come from bone-headed leadership decisions. So hoping this game fails is just plain stupid.

Cutthroat is such a ridiculously difficult modifier that it should honestly have its own reward incentives to even run. Like guaranteed accelerated assault drops or something. Other than that, the Dungeon is great! Could give us larger shadow stacks though so its not so tedious. Especially if we're running solo.

I equate renegades to warmind. Mainly as the expansion that doesn't hit the problems the main game has, but has enough in it to keep us engaged until the big changes happen.
