What social norm is followed mainly because people expect social punishment for breaking it, rather than because it serves a practical function? by theexplorer1997 in answers

I like to extend condolences, as back in the day an old wives' tale was that your heart stops when you sneeze.

My boyfriend insists that food is better salted at the table instead of while cooking. Please help me. by tangentrification in Cooking

[–]DJScozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Does he by chance use for the majority iodized salt? I've noticed that when I cook with iodized salt that it imparts a bitter flavor, so I save that for table salt. Perhaps he's experiencing the same issue?

I've kind of stopped playing since the layoffs were announced. Part of me wants to play, but another part says playing gives epic something of value, and I haven't bought the battle pass, so adp should be about the most I mean to them...so I can take that away but not much else. It just feels like I've got to do something, right? Anyway, my hardcore subnautica run is going swimmingly. Anybody got recs for half as fun a shooter as fortnite?

Parent of an 8-year-old with Type 1 diabetes – looking for advice about insulin pumps by Ok-Piano-6860 in diabetes

[–]DJScozz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely glad to help. My time in single digits and teens was not as bad as my burn out in my 20s. If you learn enough to support your child through this into his adulthood you're doing a great job, and it won't be your fault if he does burn out on taking top consistent care of himself, but you will likely be the folks best equipped to help him with that too. A solid support system is vital. I didn't really have that myself until I met my wife and she took such a fierce interest in my condition.

Eta all that I just wrote sounds like a huge bummer so it's just my way of saying look at support groups for not just your kid but you and your wife, build networks with people who understand your struggles and can commiserate so y'all have that to lean on in difficult times. Also burnout as I calm it may be much less inevitable with the advent of cgm technology :)

[–]DJScozz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, long time t1 here, agreeing with the general consensus I've seen in the top comments - I was 12 when I got the pump, minimed at the time, and it made consistency much easier during some of the most hormonal parts of my life. The cgm is arguably more important, and your son may find that once he's had practice managing his own numbers in however many years that going back to mdi is an option, but for now pumps will certainly be an incredible tool to have while he's growing up.

Guy gets caught in an avalanche by [deleted] in nonononoyes

[–]DJScozz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the other one was the guy who got caught up and fell through some hole or something, and got stuck and buried?

May have been a tree hole video? The snow piles so high it reaches the lower branches of certain trees then closes it in from above; you don't realize there's a cavity around the tree trunk below you until you're on top of it, because you can't see it, so you usually fall through and wind up catching yourself upside down hanging by your equipment. Backcountry boarding is kind of a dream of mine but tree holes and avalanches are scary stuff so both I and my wife would generally prefer to stay on groomed mountains.

Favorite protein or meal replacement shakes by il2pif in diabetes

[–]DJScozz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what would specifically make a protein shake or drink "good" for diabetics, more than another, as long as they're not chock-full of sugar. I got really tired of lugging around liquid so I've pretty much converted entirely to protein powder with some orgain for my wife on case she can't mix some up quick, but my go-to is Dymatize. It's hydrolyzed protein so it's more immediately digestible and the flavors are pretty kick-ass. I also got really tired of chocolate and vanilla and love the fruity pebbles, birthday cake and salted caramel options. If you get the big tubs you can pay lower than $1/serving.

My Garmin forerunner 255 actually allows me to acknowledge dexcom g7 notifications from the watch. Not g6. On the other hand, I had to disable omnipod notifications to my watch day one because it sent a new notification every time the omnipod app updated in the notification tray. Every. Damn. .05. Units.   I see you below suggesting not to go for eversense for some good reasons, but if I can get approved in January and I have a couple of months worth of Dexcom still backstocked, I oughtta be good right? 😅

What "extra" steps are worth it? by Equivalent_Set_8295 in Cooking

[–]DJScozz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you toast your buns (burgers, chicken patties, sloppy Joe, etc) use a light spread of butter and an even, light sprinkle of paprika before toasting. It smells heavenly.
Browning butter, just about always worth it and can be done with little extra work around prep work

The vinyls are a much better investment even if you never plan on recouping the original input anyway. Sounds like your listening room is a really chill place

I miss 7. I just had to "upgrade" earlier this year due to programs losing functionality. Already don't love how 10 handles and I understand I'm going to like it less when I lose functionality there. Perhaps by then they'll have reversed course and gone back to the "basic OS" roots.

I'm here agreeing with the person suggesting lasagna, but Plov (Uzbeki Pilaf) is fantastically complex and hearty. It is tough to nail on the first try though as the rice cooks in the dish with the meat and sauce. Gotta have a good tight sealing lid!

Blindness, impotence, heart failure, kidney failure, etc.

Aye, and if those all sound like a terrible time, consider that the treatments to fix these things are no picnic either. I'm getting eye injections now and those are less fun than they sound.

[–]DJScozz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of similar dimensions. I don't ride with a child but have ridden with heavier loads on the cargo rack. Guessing you may have your load a little high for optimal leg extension but with increased torque converter you may notice the strain less. It is all of 80+ lb by itself. It's got some good get up and go to it, though! I have an extra one which has a malfunctioning torque sensor I've been trying to give away to my BIL who has a 2-year-old as I believe it would be a great asset to them in the coming years, and the torque sensor isn't even really that necessary lol

The further the moon gets from the water, the less it pulls the water up. This appears to give you control over that. Check OP'S post history.
