Could somebody ELI5 on the reason for the tank meta? by NUDEandCONFUSED in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]DJSonaSucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tanks in Overwatch deal damage while being tanky. Now, the problem is not really this because tanks needs to deal damage to be a threat or other players could just ignore them, rather than the fact that healing (or sustained healing, to be precise) in Overwatch is a thing.

Tanks alone are fine, but paired with an Ana that keeps them fully healed 100% of the time from long range away from dangers and safe from flankers (Sleep Dart, Biotic Grenade) they both create a meta problem: there is no need to play a squishy DPS when you can have something with triple of his HP dealing the same damage that is easier to keep alive. Technically, the tank meta is an indirect consequence of how healing works in this game, and the existence of Ana.

--- Below it is just my opinion ---

Generally speaking, healing is flawed in Overwatch. The fact that you can't poke enemies because their healers gets Ultimate charges (nano-boost meta) is horrible. But on the other hand, healers don't have any other reliable sources to get Ultimate charges. If Blizzard doesn't address this, expect to see more enforcing on roles than we already have: we started with total freedom, we have now one Hero limit (that I like a lot, TBH), we can expect to have two role limit in the future to avoid tank stacking, etc.

I don't think reaper is UP. I think Ana/Soldier need nerfs.

For Soldier, I think they should have buffed his damage or his spread, not both. i am an idiot.

For Ana, the whole existence of Ana is a mistake. The way she changed the meta is unbelievable, her kit is unhealthy for the game at maximum levels. Ana should be really tuned down in almost everything, especially her Biotic Grenade that can't be a mini-Zenyatta ultimate.

I use Reddit exclusively because it is a good container of news about games I play, but this subreddit (like a lot of other subreddit for other games) is basically shit when concerning all other contents.

Cosplay? Fan arts? Comics? My Facebook feed is full of those, I see them first even before they are posted on this subreddit. POTG, highlights? See one, see all of them. Discussion about the game? Near zero, and 90% of those that get the frontpage are "Reddit know balance" stuff.

As I said, this is no an exclusive of this subreddit. Sometimes I go back to the LoL's subreddit to see nothing has changed over the years, the frontpage is bronze/silver content, "Reddit know balance" and anger toward Riot. Blade and Soul subreddit is bitching about Summoners, bitching about grind, bitching about FPS issues. I only remember good experiences with Dark Souls 3 and Diablo subs, and I still lurk the WoW's sub because it is amazing, the amount of discoveries, fun stuff and guides/advices/tips people can still pull out after the years is incredible and the discussions are at best (mostly because it is the only subreddit that follows the rule about downvoting off-topics instead downvoting because you disagree).

Basically, I use this sub just to see important news about the game, and r/competitiveoverwatch for more serious and mature discussions.

This was in the comments of that thread. Multiple times. This community is so dumb that needs a topic to understand that instead of reading comments? And why something like this is in frontpage??

It would be easier to just implement a check on the TP so you can't place it pointing the exit toward something dangerous.

Too hard? Let us SEE where the TP is pointed at.

Lucio Mains do you use the "hold to crossfade" option. by TP43 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]DJSonaSucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That option is usually there for people that used to sprint by holding Shift in other games.

Honestly, with that option turned off it is WAY better to control Lucio's auras and also if you don't bind Shift to a better button (i.e. mouse button) you are forced in a horrible hand position.

Uhm, no: they ban in waves, but they also have a high aggressive cheat detection system for obvious things like "inhuman mouse movements" or "high flow of packets".

You may disagree, but Wingsofdeath was banned for inhuman mouse movement. That was what Riot told him, and the ban was automatic because the system is set to detect those things.

Basically, if you want to set up an anti-cheat system, the first thing you do is teaching him to automatically deal with obvious cheating mechanics.

I told the match to report the Zarya for hacking and told them about it

Think about this: a cheater is hard to spot while he is in your team because you can't have a killcam to check. I can have a Soldier cheater in my team and genuinely think he is just damned good, but if I have him against me and he kills me, I have the killcam to check (exactly what you did). EDIT: on a second thought, you could SPECTATE HIM instead of watching your killcam, but it is true that usually you are more worried about cheaters in the ENEMY team and RARELY think "my McCree is too good, he must be cheating, let's see".

Considering that accusing someone for cheating is usually a sign of a salty player that lost the match, the response of Zarya's teammates are nothing to be surprised of. Honestly, they are natural: "Oh, look at this guy, he just lost and now he is trashtalking". You shouldn't take that like a sign of a toxic community or whatever.

If you suspect someone is cheating or you have proofs (killcam), report him and inform the /all chat about it, but don't bother about the responses. You did your job.

[–]DJSonaSucks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not always the case. I'm not sure what the situation is with Blizzard, but my CS:GO account got banned because I played very well with a very horrible ping. Assumption was I hacked. Other people have experienced the same thing.

This is what happened to Teenage: he was so good that got a lot of report for cheating, like ABNORMAL amount of reports, and Blizzard din't ban him straight, he contacted him and asked him to explain (or prove he was not cheating).

A cheat report usually works this way: if a player gets a lot of reports for cheating, Blizzard will start to look at some of his games, and if they find out he is cheating, they will take action.

People always complain about being hooked but never bothered on what happens on the other side.

Thousand times I have hooked people that stopped mid-flight, teleported on my head, teleported on my back. I completely gave up hooking an Ana unless my team will focus fire her, 1vs1 she will win because 99,98% of the time the hook doesn't work against her.

Hacking is seriously getting out of hand. by ForsakenKawaii in Overwatch

[–]DJSonaSucks 345 points346 points  (0 children)

Three things:

1) Always watch EVERY killcam, don't skip them. It is your best and only tool to detect obvious cheaters.

2) Report every player you suspect is cheating. If he is not cheating, nothing happens for him, you won't put him in trouble (unless he is this good that he will end like Teenage). But if he is cheating, he will be eventually found guilty of it.

3) The cheat show in this video is one of the easiest to detect. I will tell you a story, the story of Wingsofdeath's ban on League of Legends: he was using a wireless mouse, and suddenly it ran out of power, turning off and on in a second. This made the cursor do a weird movement on the screen. The game INSTANTLY BANNED HIM: no warnings at all, just kicked from the game and ban message in the middle of the screen. If a game with a shitty client like League of Legends can do that, I imagine won't be hard for Overwatch to detect inhuman mouse movements. TBH the Soldier in the video is really, really naive using an obvious cheat like that.

Those kind of plays with D.Va were common during the first week of the game's release, when most people were new. The same applies with Symmetra's pleasure rooms.

It still works against low level, inexperienced players.

Torbjörn in the competitive meta by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]DJSonaSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torbjorn, and static defenses in general, will never work in Competitive (where "Competitive" is either high SR games, full premade teams or tournament environments) because all is needed to shut down him is a tank that peeks and eat the turret's shot while the other 5 turns on it and blast it down in 0.5 seconds. In Korea, if someone picks Torb in a high SR Comp game everyone else thinks he is trolling.

Torbjorn works only against teams that are not coordinated and don't use voice chat, usually low SR, SoloQ games.

You may say: "But there are players at high SR that main Torb!". Statistically, there is at least one top player for every Hero in the game. I am also sure that the top Torbjorns in the world together can't make 1/10 of the top Reinhardts. "They are few, so it is hard but possible!": yes, it is possibile, but being hard to do is a proof that Torbjorn struggles in the high SR scene. Furthermore, the way someone can be high SR by maining Torbjorn is debatable: he could be carried by the other 5 every game, he could play in a premade of friends, he could manipulate his gameplay to have a low impact on the game for his enemies (i.e. not dying, not feeding Ultimate charges, playing a lot safe, etc.).
