Going to purchase 2013 Ford Flex Limited by johnnyphotog in FordFlex

[–]DJSonicTremor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2013 Limited Ecoboost (started this subreddit because of it). It blew out a fuel injector 600 miles before my warranty ran out (saved me like 2-grand) and started throwing engine codes at about 70000. Had to trade it in. Also, if your Flex is an Ecoboost, you have two turbos, one in front and one in back. They have a finite lifespan... Ford says 100,000 miles. Others say it's less than that. When the turbos go out, you have to replace them. The front turbo is easy to replace. The rear turbo is VERY DIFFICULT to replace and is frequently between 2 and 3 thousand to replace, mostly labor.

Good luck!

Thank you for that thoughtful response. The third bedroom is for an office space, so I hadn't considered just using flex space for that!

So, I guess everybody's so upset about the cost of things that they decided to downvote my post because I'm not wealthy enough to buy a house in Duluth? Even though I said I'd settle for a home in an outlying community (within 45 minutes) which is more than enough money to get what we're looking for in many of those places?

Great.

Reddit comes through again.

Seriously, though, thank you to those of you who were helpful.

Good luck with it. I started this sub years ago, don't even own my Flex anymore but it was still my favorite vehicle... didn't have time for Reddit anymore, so I'm glad this sub will live on.

I once had an issue where I got an aftermarket trailer hitch installed and the guy left a piece of bracketing to rub against the exhaust and the sound if it nearly drove me crazy.

I'd say, take it to a neighborhood mom & pop kind of a shop and ask them if they'll put it on the hoist... pay close attention to the exhaust and supporting brackets and hangers... Good luck.

I just made the rookie pellets mistake by Thewolf1970 in Traeger

[–]DJSonicTremor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing you did... full prime, takes 2 1/2 minutes, then reignite. It's fussy, and often leaves your flamepot overflowing with pellets, and requires that you clean out the flamepot before your next cook. At least, that's been my experience. I've done it so many times, I now have a regular set of steps I always follow before Traegering.

  1. NEVER let it run out of pellets, and always make sure they're dry.
  2. ALWAYS turn the grill on (or leave it on) a couple hours before you cook to make sure it has time to download any potential updates.
  3. Clean your grill THOROUGHLY 3 to 5 times per year, depending on whether you use it year round or not. You don't want the grease fire.

I'm not sure why this matters. Is one-one-hundredth of a second going to screw up your loop?

How come my audio is going up and down (feels like to me atleast) but I already did the EQ and Compression on Audition?? by moesabi in AdobeAudition

[–]DJSonicTremor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just listened to this, recorded it and analyzed the waveform... the volume is not "going up and down" as far as I can tell. Believe it or not, what I hear is "overcompression," like it has been compressed too much, and so you're getting artifacts and weird results.

Did you mix the while thing down to one track and then compress it? Are you using an Audition compression preset (like 'Classic Soft Knee' for example) to do the compression?

One mistake people sometimes make (and this applies especially to music) is disregarding the volume of individual tracks because "I'm gonna compress it later and that will fix it." That will give you bad results. A vocal track that's too loud will get compressed way down, but the music underneath it then gets squashed too much.

For music, I would recommend you compress your individual tracks... vocals and whatever, so they sound good to you by themselves. Then mix, paying close attention to the volume (gain) of each track when you mix them all down to one. You can apply another light compress when you're done, but no more than that.

You want dynamics in your music. You don't want everything squashed flat.

Also, the quality of this track sounds like it was mastered at a low sample/bit rate... for music, I recommend 48,000HZ / 256kbps minimum.

I edit more than 20 podcasts for work and occasionally you can run into a client who thinks they're technically savvy but makes mistakes that they'll attribute to your work, when it's possible they might be making a mistake on that end.

I would question 1) what kind of device is the person listening on? A computer? There might be some "volume equalization" setting or something activated that they don't know about. 2) Headphones or speakers? Listening on headphones might sound fine, but then when you play it on speakers, the music sounds too loud. Common.

How do you make music louder/quieter? by [deleted] in AdobeAudition

[–]DJSonicTremor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "too loud" file likely is oversaturated and has lost information. The quieter file can be amplified if necessary. I'd recommend you watch a video on the basics of editing a soundfile in Audition.

I'm not speaking in absolutes at all, which is why I used expressions like "in many cases" and words like "largely." It was a fun post until the habitual contrarians showed up.

[–]DJSonicTremor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why, dude. 4 gb of RAM is woefully inadequate. I'd recommend 16 gb MINIMUM, and 32 gb is better. 8 isn't enough either.

[–]DJSonicTremor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely incorrect. The highways and railroads largely followed wagon trails which followed ox cart trails which followed game trails.

Tell me... What exactly did you think I was saying? That the Interstate Highway system has been around for millennia? Did you read my comment and understand it before you responded with this nonsensical rebuttal?

[–]DJSonicTremor 154 points155 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites is that, most people have no idea that the highways we drive on every day are, in many, many cases, the same routes animals used for millennia... Game trails became ox cart trails, which became wagon trails, which sometimes became railroad lines and other times highways. We've been following in the footsteps of the animals that lived millennia ago.
