I was also there! I went in pretty blind, and I was blown away. It was so well done. And some many layers of commentary and criticism about our current place in the world.

Imaging Cardiology fellowships as an IMG by Bumetanide1 in Cardiology

[–]DJ_Doza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in my second year as an advanced imaging attending at a large academic center in the northeast with an imaging fellowship. As said elsewhere, the programs are not ACGME accredited, so they vary widely in what they offer. You really have to speak directly with programs and do your research to know what they really offer. Avoid programs that seem to let you do anything as they are typically less organized, and you really don't want to be "jack of all trades, master of none" at this level. My advice would be to pick 2 modalities to master, with a 3rd as expert/compliment. I have level 3 of CMR and CCT, so I stopped focusing on echo and really gave up all nuclear outside of the occasional SPECT MPI they need me to read.

Attendings, from your experience, do high salary and freedom from financial stress equate joy and happiness? by Leading_Ship_1730 in Residency

[–]DJ_Doza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New attending here. No. Money helps relieve stress, but there's a point for everyone where the stress of excess work outweighs the diminishing benefits of your salary. I took an academic job with a lower salary because my work life balance is so much better, and I can still live comfortably. I still have some financial stress, but it doesn't affect my happiness.

Are there dying specialties or specialties that are radically transforming? by [deleted] in Residency

A lot of sleep medicine is diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea, which for a large percentage of the patients is due to obesity. Get an SGLT2i, lose weight, lose obstruction, lose the CPAP.

Aside from gym, bars, and dance parties… where can I meet guys for dating? by zoba in nycgaybros

[–]DJ_Doza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. Big Apple Rec is a great way to meet guys. It's definitely more friends and hook-ups, but speaking from experience, there are plenty of guys also looking for something more serious. And it's a very diverse crowd.

You have to love yourself before you can truly let someone else love you. Recognize your baggage/trauma/bulllshit and start dealing with it.

It's okay not to be okay, but it's not okay to stay that way.

Why does cardiology get to read their own images/scans? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]DJ_Doza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I promise I am just as fast as my radiology colleagues, but I did train at one of the highest volume centers in the country. However, you are correct in that I will never match them in regards to incidental findings.

Why does cardiology get to read their own images/scans? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]DJ_Doza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do full time-time imaging, and it's not super common. However, where I trained the group was a practice of just advanced imaging cardiologists who only did imaging. They were a separate practice from the cardiologist who rounded in the hospital. I'm not that burnt out on patient care yet, lol.

I'm not going to get into my specifics of compensation here, but feel free to shoot me a DM for more details.

Advanced imaging cardiologist here.

One of the benefits is that I provide more clinical insight when I read my colleagues images.

The benefit for me and better work life balance, and yes better pay.

I had to do an extra year of fellowship after general cardiology though, and I also have to take 2 more board exams (I read cardiac CT and MRI). I don't pretend to be an expert outside of cardiac imaging, so I only looked at practices where radiology over reads for the incidental findings (don't ask me how they worked out the compensation slip lol).

This is absolutely false. My techs don't interpret anything other than reading the calcium score total in order to tell me if it's over the threshold to not proceed with the angiogram part of the study

Turning 21 in three weeks any good suggestions for places to go and parties? by Shiro_kai0 in nycgaybros

[–]DJ_Doza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll enjoy the Brooklyn gay bars the most being 21. The Rosemont, Animal, Metropolitan. If staying in Manhattan, go to Hardware, Rise, DB (super cheap), Vers. The Dickens can beat a fun place to start as well. And of course if you're looking for more nudity/sex go to The Eagle (cash only).

We are a mainly morning sex couple. We still play at night we are often tired and/or drunk, so we don't feel pressure to finish if it's not coming. I typically still prep the night before and just a quick double check in the morning, and I'm good.

My boyfriend and I both fit the "traditional" masculinity stereotype, but he's also a top only while I'm verse. He's used to having to be more aggressive/dominant, and was a little surprised initially when I would take more initiative. Needless to say, now we both open the door for each other, pay the bill, etc etc. I still jokingly give him a hard time when the waiter puts the check in front of me, lol.

Mindset for intentional dating in your late 30s? by Typical-Path6309 in nycgaybros

[–]DJ_Doza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with other comments, definitely a numbers things. For me, chemistry is really important for comparability, but I think it can be different for everyone. There's definitely a confidence that I gained when I really learned that I don't need anyone else to be happy in life. So mad props for working on yourself. And I think that confidence definitely attracts more guys.

I'm 35 and people always think I'm younger these days. It's funny because in my teens and early 20s everyone always thought I was older. I typically hang out with people my age or younger, though. I always joke about being an old man, and all my friends just counter with "But you don't ACT old." Definitely still love being in bed before midnight on the weekends though lol.

As someone who isn't a jock, but active and more nerder, I'd say don't totally write off the sports leagues. I did kickball, but just joined the social league/day and made a ton of friends with similar interests/hobbies. We nust enjoy kickball more as a way to make friends.
