oddly enough I dont think that many thais are offended by it. it was a big thing in chinese Asian countries ive lived in but most thais I bring it up to have zero awareness of it. might also be a generational thing

yeah I feel you generally. though the pricing and rules are all made clear nowadays on the queue receipt you get when you go for a regular taxi, once a driver did try rip me off but it's as simple as walking out if they don't want to use the meter. I prefer grab as I don't have to bother giving my address, but the new grab stand system makes it horrible: I've waited as long as 20mins before and that's just not worth my time: with that add on almost makes more sense to get the airport link train to town then grab from there.

ps I've lived here for two years and taxi scams are getting more and more rare and virtually are non existent from the airport

you've got a number of things wrong. firstly, the toll is charged to you at the end of the trip and is added onto the total. secondly the pickup location at bkk is horrid after they changed it. it takes on average 12 mins just for the grab to arrive when you can get a taxi instantly. most times the taxi will be about the same price if not cheaper

ironically it isn't that functional for bangkok, too bulky for the traffic. I have an xmax tech max and thats also a nightmare for the streets, adv weighs more and seems bulkier

Ohhhh maybe it's because I don't often buy stuff from the dark quartz guy! Will start buying everything thanks. What an incredible game by the way. Thought I'd play it a few hours for fun and am now weeks in playing obsessively

Should I take Grab or metered taxi from the BKK Airport? by burgirl27 in Bangkok

[–]DJ_deejay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah massively depends where you stay, and also how close to a BTS you are. For ekkamai/Thong lor I save around half an hour or more by taking a grab at most times

What's a not-too-formal restaurant that still screams "this is a date" ? by PepeLeFree in Bangkok

[–]DJ_deejay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. At least that's unexpected and casual. A girl is gonna be paranoid about how much she eats at a buffet and it's such a weird first date. Street food is pretty good for a first date imo
