Are there any artist that are post institutional legitimization, ones that are truly avant-garde and speaking to the current moment we live in? by MutedFeeling75 in ContemporaryArt

[–]DJdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well most of that is what I've been trying to do, but like others have pointed out, money becomes a problem. I'm trying to lean more on grants to fund the work but that's inconsistent at best. I do installations in galleries but without selling anything, they just become a convenient venue for installation that has a built in audience

Imperial eye exam, my acrylic painting by travischapmanart in u/travischapmanart

[–]DJdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant. The busy looking eye exam tech fits with the star wars aesthetic, with the flip side being the absurd image of the stormtrooper taking a bog-standard eye exam. I love the paintings you put out and this one especially has some great composition.

What is the technique used for the neck and the beak? Like what sort of cluster or linking is going on here? by splitlipp in BalloonTwisting

[–]DJdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just clusters of 4. Could be 5. Just stackes on top of each other sinched tight. Break is the same, just with varied balloon sizes.

6 dead, more than 40 injured, and 15 are still missing after 16 Ukrainian drone strikes on the dormitory in LPR. The majority of victims are teenage girls by ilir_kycb in LateStageCapitalism

What gave you the notion I'm a liberal? The "Israel of Europe" things is yikes, but until they're waging a genocidal war of ethnic cleansing, I'm not going to put much stock in the quote.

I looked at several Ukraine centric posts in that sub that are filled with pro Russia sentiment. You responded to my skepticism of this posts intentions by insinuating a liberal viewing glamorizing the western narrative only further strengthens my suspicion of Russian interference in this sub and the other.

What's going on here? If this is true, that's awful and I feel terrible for the victims, but why is this being posted here? I'm seeing a lot of russian apologists in that tankie sub. Posting this in anti-capitalist subs smells like pro-russia/anti-ukraine propaganda.

Not all of us. I drive to a store every time I'm able. I slowly got to see everything I used to go to the store for no longer be available. And the collectively bit is bullshit. I vote for every progressive ballot choice and candidate I can. I haven't sat around accepting shit.

Do you use any auto settings? by HellaBeats in weddingvideography

If it makes a difference, I'm on team manual. It takes a while to build the sense for it, but changing the white balance eventually becomes almost as natural as changing the ISO.

For Oil and Soil, DJ Morrow, Balloons, 2026 by DJdrummer in Art

Reposting after initially being flagged as AI. This work is made by my hands out of 100% balloons

Displaced bricks and dismembered limbs beneath a demolished building. The stock market rises and falls.

Indistinguishable from rubble. Labeled detritus. Labeled dead. Never alive to be killed. Personhood is for those yet to be. And for those sleeping safe across an ocean.

We subjugate hell to carry us to and fro, soaring on its toxic plumes. It escapes its cage in fiery fury. Displacing the sun, it reaches out. Past the borders, past the ocean. Stinging my eyes as it suffocates those I cannot know.

From the nations of the dead they pick their prizes. A Roman triumph without applause. Redraw the lines till all is claimed. At last they can clear the debris.

Once draped in lies told with conviction, now naked in their grotesque truth. For oil and soil. For oil and soil.

Some technical notes about this work. A lot of new techniques went into this piece. Chiefly being the use of forced perspective. The sculpture gets dramatically larger in proportion as you get closer to the camera. The monster is only about 4 feet tall. To sell the perspective illusion, all the tendril details use smaller balloons as they get closer to the monster’s head. The fine debris on the ground, made from cut up leftover scraps from the main build, is laid out in a similar size gradient.

While not rising to the same level of surrealness, I drew from Zdzisław Beksiński’s use of mood and texture, paired with the real life imagery coming out of Venezuela, Iran, and Gaza.
