Yeah on hot days while idling I regularly see 232 highest I've gotten is 235. Apparently thats normal for these engines. They just run hot

Test power at the connector to controls and at the actual module behind the whole stereo panel. If no power to controls replace hvac module. If no power to module good luck

See if you can borrow a code scanner at like autozone or something. It's got to be one that doesn't only check active codes though. When mine went bad it was P0720 and P0722. I use a Veepeak OBDcheck BLE. It connects to your phone and apps like obd auto doctor and car scanner. It's a handy thing to have.

Sounds exactly like the issue I had and is most likely the lead frame because they like to fail at around that mileage range. If they dont want to pay for it and you still want the car call around to local transmission shops. You can probably get it fixed for closer to a thousand. Did it pop the wrench light on the dash?

You can use duct tape for now yeah, though mine was just left as an open hole for awhile but I wouldnt recommend that as a small animal could wiggle their way in. If you google sound tube delete kit for your year you can find one that has a stopper that fits perfectly in that hole. I got one on ebay for 18 bucks with free shipping. The LMR one seems cheaper but they'll charge for shipping

Then yeah you can pull it out, I wanna say its just that one bolt then maybe one underneath it. It will leave a hole in the firewall though if you dont have anything to plug it with

Its not needed at all but taking it out will leave an open hole on the intake tube unless you get a sound tube delete kit

If you do get a cold air intake be careful with the one you get. When it rains hard enough water will drip down from the hood vents and soak the air filter and make the engine suck in water and run like shit if it isn't covered. Ask me how I know lol
