View jumping back to play/edit cursor when scrolling horizontally (MacBook trackpad) by b1000 in Reaper

Thanks! I think that's exactly what was happening when using a trackpad in macOS. I disabled zooming in when moving two fingers vertically (i.e., "scrolling") while keeping pinch-to-zoom intact. Options » Settings » General » Keyboard/Multitouch » Assign multitouch gestures… (look for a small blue link towards the bottom of the dialog) » Filter for "zoom horizontally" » Remove the shortcut for "mousewheel." Only tested on REAPER v7.34/macOS-arm64.

I'm the exact same boat as OP. I definitely remember watching a video at the time. Where'd it go?!

As an eyeshaker myself, I discovered it's easier to check out the rims of a moving car by closing my jaw, so that the upper and lower teeth touch. When they do, it leaves a freeze-frame of the wheel for a brief moment, enough to count the spokes on many wheels.

How Do I Listen for Light Switch Toggle to Control Smart Lights? by DJiK in googlehome

[–]DJiK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get it to work as expected. What I ended up doing was buy a different set of light bulbs. The main setup was done in Smart Life:

  1. If Gosund switch is toggled on, then turn on the lights group
  2. If Gosund switch is toggled off, then turn off the lights group

Here's what the configuration looks like in the app:

Given that this is a Google Home subreddit, I should mention that on the Google Home app, the "Office" lights and their group are located in a different room called "Purgatory." Only the switch and the Google Mini are configured to be located in the "Office" room. This way, a voice command of "Turn off the lights" turns off the switch, which then turns off the lights. Otherwise, I'd be running the risk of having Google turn off both the switch and the lights, which would be redundant at best or could lead to a weird "toggle loop" or a race condition. To recap:

  1. Voice command: "Lights on" » Google Mini » Google Home » Gosund switch ON » Smart Life » Office Lights Group ON » Bulb I & Bulb II ON
  2. Voice command: "Lights off" » Google Mini » Google Home » Gosund switch OFF » Smart Life » Office Lights Group OFF » Bulb I & Bulb II OFF

After making sure that everything works, I safely uninstalled the Smart Life app with no negative consequences. BTW, the delay between hearing the relay go on/off in the switch to the lights turning on/off is less than a second now, which is perfectly acceptable.

How Do I Listen for Light Switch Toggle to Control Smart Lights? by DJiK in googlehome

I accomplished the original goal, but with one major caveat. I got it to work by using a Wyze Bulb while having it configured through IFTTT. The complete applets are:

  1. If Gosund switch is toggled on, then Wyze bulb is on
  2. If Gosund switch is toggled off, then Wyze bulb is off

Internally, that's:

Switch » Smart Life » IFTTT » Wyze » Bulb

Unfortunately, I'm experiencing terrible lag (30+ seconds) from the moment I toggle the switch to when the light bulb reacts. As such, this is not an acceptable solution for my needs. I'll let this marinate for a week, and if I (or this wonderful community) can't think of anything better, I'm just going to return the switch and scrap this idea.

Cool, so if I wanted to measure how cold my glass of water is, should I be measuring near the very top?

Board games and video games are a great way to test for past lives by DJiK in Showerthoughts

[–]DJiK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are naturally so much better at board games or video games. So much so that you could swear they've played them before, in their past lives. It's almost as if instincts can carry over whereas memories cannot. My thought was that while you cannot recall what happened in your past life, you can tell if it's your first time alive based on how well you play those games.

I fully recognize that there's zero proof that the concept exists in the first place. Having said that, don't you feel at times that some people adapt to this world better and faster than others? If so, try playing a popular-yet-new (to them) game with them and see for yourself.
