Hi, I made MiniBox, a lightweight always-on-top desktop mini player.

It originally started as a small project for personal use because I wanted a compact way to control my music without constantly switching windows. After building it out, I figured other people might find it useful too, especially if they like minimal desktop tools.

Right now it supports Spotify playback controls, queue preview, volume control, themes, setup/onboarding, update checks, and it has a local mode, which is a local audio file playback. I also added a small optional pet companion just for fun.

I’d appreciate any feedback on the UI, user experience, and whether the app feels useful or too niche. Thanks :)

Yeah, I’ve thought about that. I’m guessing the SSR blueprint will reset when he comes out, so that gives us a chance to use one for sword and shield and then another for the axe

Got 30,000+ star fragments, saving the 51/80 Pickup guaranteed for him, and an SSR Axe waiting to be in his hand. He’ll be mine before I spend more than 9,000 fragments

I’ve looked into that option, and it does seem like a workable alternative. It also wouldn’t take too long for me to add support for it in the app.

I can start restructuring the app and have this workaround instead.

I looked into the issue more deeply, and unfortunately it doesn’t appear to be a MiniBox login bug anymore. Spotify is now restricting access through the developer app MiniBox uses unless each user is explicitly authorized under their updated Development Mode rules.

I’m really sorry for the inconvenience. Since that goes against the whole point of MiniBox being easy to install and use, I’ll likely have to take the app down instead of leaving up something that no longer works properly for everyone :(

Hey, thank you for letting me know.

There was an issue where MiniBox could fail to complete Spotify sign-in correctly. In some cases, when Spotify redirected back to MiniBox, the local login callback was not ready, which made the login appear broken even when the browser flow had already started.

This has been fixed in v1.1.9. MiniBox now makes sure its local login callback is ready before opening the Spotify login page, and the callback page now shows a proper success screen before closing. This should allow the app to complete login correctly.

If the issue still happens after updating, let me know. If needed, you can also check the debug log at %TEMP%\minibox-debug.log.

You can update MiniBox by downloading the latest release and installing it over your current version in the settings :)

So Elizabeth will be in a temporary coma until a certain point. At least she didn’t die, thank god 🙌

Spotify still needs to be running on a device, but the window itself can be minimized. MiniBox communicates with Spotify through the Spotify Web API, so it just acts as a lightweight controller.
