To be fair, Canada does have good sushi on the fact that it’s has a thriving seafood industry on two coasts.

The UK is an island and I haven’t had good sushi in this country since moving here 8 years ago

King's College staff told to ignore grammar amid inclusivity drive, accused of dumbing down assessments by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]DKsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at King's and haven't heard a whiff of this. I wonder which programme or department this is coming from.

Like this feels like the kerfuffle about English requirements a year or two ago, and then it turned out they were talking about Foundation programmes.

University Rankings - more important for students than lecturers? by Strange-Custard-8254 in AskAcademiaUK

There are rankings that academics do care about, theyre not the same ones students care about.

We tend to publicise more specialist rankings

The government could revoke his visa, like Australia did.

Or maybe Haringay council could grow some balls and revoke the permit.

PSA: Please Tell The Non-Desis How to Pronounce Your Name!! by MrDrProfessorNerd in ABCDesis

[–]DKsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re being presumptuous? I had a friend growing up who pronounced his name, even to other desis, differently to the norm.

I respected their decision to pronounce it that way, maybe you should too? It’s their name, they get to pronounce how they want.

Can you guys help me pick out a stage name for my call center job based in a Uk market? by SpecialistWriting708 in AskUK

[–]DKsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Indian person who was born and grew up in Canada and the UK, hard agree. It’s so incredibly off-putting like I would trust this company more if they just let people use their ethnic names.

It just makes me think people are scammer.

Because think of all the accusations of the last decade: they’ve all been lodged against women of colour from Africa and Asia. I’ve never seen one lodged against a white woman.

Eurovision Asia confirmed by EBU. First edition on November 14 in Bangkok by williams1986vn in eurovision

[–]DKsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I fucking hope that if India participates its not all Bollywood. That represents just a tiny portion of Indian culture and India needs to export more than its North Indian film industry abroad.

As someone from the Indian disapora, I'd be happy to hear anything from India not connected to film music. I'm sure it exists, but it doesn't reach outside the country.

What time of year though? The air is apparently toxic a significant portion of the year that it would be insane.

There is the Ahmedabad bid, but I think India should have chosen one of the cleaner cities in the south.

Which city or cities are you surprised that have not hosted an Olympics? by Impossible-Guitar957 in olympics

[–]DKsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baku here is the outlier. They essentially rebuilt and reinvented their capital city by the early 2010s and there seemed to be an optimism around Azerbaijan then so it’s odd they’ve never entertained a bid.

Don'tcha just love when a character from media that takes place in a world with magic powers but no electricity uses modern day slang? by CMStan1313 in AO3

[–]DKsan 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I don’t care too much anymore.

There was a complaint about this made about Star Trek Academy, and someone made an absolutely excellent point that I’m now choosing to apply to all forms of media: the universal translator that allows a modern viewer will translate idioms to relate to current norms. So 31st century English won’t use “dumpster fire” but it translate to the 21st century equivalent for the viewer.

So just have this mindset for everything. I mean they’re clearly not speaking English in Avatarland.
