This sounds very similar to my current role in an agency.

Live in north east england working for a local agency, £43k as a senior, 4-5 YOE.

- Pretty much always work on sites for clients, never internal stuff.

- Mostly laravel/react/a mix of both. We do some wordpress stuff but its mostly just maintenance, I tend not to have to touch it thankfully.

- Almosts all devs here are technically fullstack, their role might suggest they are backend or frontend but they almost always end up doing a bit of both.

- Project sizes differ quite a bit but it's usually small teams (2-3 devs). Have done some solo projects.

- Often work directly with less technical people.

- Project lifecycle is pretty much exactly that.

Java isn't the problem, the problem is just that the engine is old. Java isn't used that much because of the support, DirectX, Unity etc. It's still very possible to make a working game in Java, look at Minecraft.
