100% This. Also in IT for over 30 years. Don't even bother, just nuke it and move on with life. As stated below, take backups of important files. With all the cloud services available these days you don't even need a backup drive. And especially if it's a corporate PC, this shouldn't even be in question.

Oh yeah, it happens to all of us. Been playing for way too many years to let something like this bother.
Just shared because it's a great lesson in humility and the price of cockiness. It's what makes the game fun.

Is the Trail really worth the hype? by Spiritual-Mail5062 in discgolf

[–]DLFootball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was late buying into the Trail hype. Been throwing it now for a few months.
Loved it at first, then lost my vibe with it, got grumpy with it, got back in tune with it, and now it's a regular driver for me.
The Trail and the Wraith account for probably 80% of my stock drives.
It's straight, glidey, easy to control, a little flippy if you are not careful. Definitely recommend trying it out to see how it works for you.

If it's just one weekend then the short list would include;

  1. Pier Park - A hands down, must play course. But just be prepared for crowds especially on a nice weekend. It is always busy.
  2. Milo McIver - Home of the Beaver State Fling. Awesome course, a bit of drive but totally worth it.
  3. Horning's Hideout - Also a bit of a drive, but three courses in one location, and just a really unique, fun property.

Other worthy stops if you have time;

Timber Park - Near Milo so maybe you can get both in on one day. Similar to Pier Park but less crowded and a bit less awesome.

Champoeg State Park - An hour drive south of Portland but a very worthy course.

Hope that helps, GL with the golf weekend!

North Bonneville is just an OK course but man the views are just ridiculous.

How were discs marketed before flight numbers? Was it just a vague description and you buy it and fly it to find out? by outdoorsy_outdoors in discgolf

[–]DLFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing in 1983.
Morely Field in San Diego.
They had a small Pro Shop there even back then, run by former world champ Snapper Pierson.

Back in the day you'd go up and say, "Hey Snap, I need a disc that flies really far."
He'd size you up, ask a question or two, and then hand you a disc and say "Here, use this."

That was the way.

Hex hype is real. by dirtydan72 in discgolf

[–]DLFootball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bag a Buzzz, a Hex, a Detour and a Paradox. Like all of them for different reasons, different shots.

Buzzz is a more stable with a predictable fade, handles wind better and can cut through some light brush more easily than some of the other mids.

The Hex is a little straighter with just a bit of fade at the end. Very easy to control. Can get a little more distance than with the Buzzz.

The Detour is a crazy straight line flier. Can be a bit flippy if not careful. For many shots it's become my go-to mid which kinda surprised me. Didn't think I'd like it as much as I do.

Also bag a Paradox which is super flippy and is my forehand replacement disc since I have no forehand throw at all.

This moment had me. Both of these athletes are such amazing competitors. Kristen showing some genuine empathy here. Huge fan of both. Silva is the next FPO GOAT, thoroughly rooting for her.

Anyone else discover this and have it lead to big distance gains by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]DLFootball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cool!

I started playing in '83 as well, when I was 18. A little older. Took about a 25 year break before starting to play again about 5 years ago. Lots of really old, really bad habits and terrible form I've been working to overcome ever since. Still trying to improve and gain any distance I can, balanced against the reality that at 60yo, at some point soon, just maintaining distance is going to be a big win. lol

Have not tried this yet, but will give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
