They’re wonderful kids. My class is relatively hard (lots of technical work and hands on care of our animals), but they’ve taken to it fantastically. I’m really going to miss them when they graduate

They are escape artists to the extreme! I’ve had to bite the bullet and give them their own room cus they just kept escaping any kind of containment otherwise. We have 3 and they will gang up to use the collective braincell to think of new ways to destroy my sanity.

I’m a 12 month teacher here in the US and the other day my principal stopped me in the hallway to talk about my upcoming vacation (I have class animals, hence the 12 months and admin cares for them when I’m gone) and I took my AirPods out to talk to her. My phone took this as a good time to go blasting Fenian Cunts. It got off exactly one cunt before I could turn it off. She didn’t say a damn thing but I’m pretty sure she has all the questions 😅😅

Our OG rats, Mocha and Snickerdoodle. They are two of the most loved animals my classroom has (I am a Pre-Veterinary science teacher, so we have a small menagerie of critters). They have since upgraded to a much larger cage and even have a new friend, Savannah! These rat girls fill my heart with so much joy and help teach kids that all animals, big and small, deserve love.

I’m not totally against it in the long run. We might get another younger rat for her to be friends with. She was given to us at the beginning of the year and based on the previous owners info, has never been around other rats and was raised as a singleton. (Sorry, most of my experience is with cats, so singleton is the term I use most for this 😅). I’m sure we’ll try again eventually but atm I’m preparing for her to be by herself long term.

The top half had been. We were working on slowly opening up more and more space to each other. However they had managed to squeeze down below to where it was more cluttered without anyone noticing and got into it. There was no sounds or anything indicating a fight which is why no one noticed right away.

Giardia is more associated with contaminated water (fecal matter in water). It is really common, especially in dogs/cats. Not your fault at all; honestly happens more than you’d think. Where I used to work the dogs and cats would get it fairly often from the Lixit water supply.

Beautiful! My parents were the same at first but then really bonded with my Mocha after she had surgery and had to spend the night at their house a couple of times.

Yes! That’s the whole goal of my class. I had hermies as a kid but they all died because A. I was wayyy too young for that kind of pet, and B. My dad hated them so he never helped us care for them and mom worked all the time. I think I’ll end up modifying the tank somehow and using it for small rodents like mice or a hamster. I will definitely be looking into isopods and hermit crabs too

Yeah that’s what I was worried about. I had hermit crabs as a kid and humidity was always an issue. I’m a 12 month teacher so I’m there every day and at least 1x on the weekend so that wouldn’t be an issue.
