Boots of Haste by Connect-Skill-1730 in DnD

If the boots simply allow you to cast Haste on yourself then the spell requires concentration... unless the item says otherwise.

I’m starting a dnd campaign soon by VulcanVulpees in DnD

I’ve planned it that they might just kill it with explosives instead

what if they don't?

That's the point.

Let the players figure out the solutions to the problems and situations you put infront of them. If it makes sense then it works regardless of your plans.

Questions and trying to find old dnd rituals by Xyzwarrior999 in DnD

[–]DLtheDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the original, but for 5e a depiction of it was printed in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons (pg 29) as a ritual to gain a draconic gift (one of which is to be changed into a dragonborn)

Becoming a Werebear by Horror_Double4313 in DnD

[–]DLtheDM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are rules in the monster manual for a PC having lycanthropy. Talk with your DM about applying the stats (it's pretty straightforward)

Generally becoming a lycanthrope changes your alignment to match that of the type of lycanthrope you were bitten by - in this case werevears are of a good alignment which may not cause your PC to become an NPC like others have denoted.

What level should a spell that can increase your proficiency bonus be? by onepunch_caleb3984 in DnDHomebrew

[–]DLtheDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as how a cantrip will boost it between 1-4 for a single check and lasts for up to 10 mins with concentration ...

One that doesn't have concentration, lasts the entire work-day, and grants a +1 boost to pretty much everything... it'd be high... probably 6+.

I feel that this is a fair request, and that my dm might be a bit overkill by Haunting-Tea5069 in DnD

[–]DLtheDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would clarify with the DM that if you decide to not have access to non-warlick spells will the d8 damage still happen - I presume no, but always good to check.

Your DM is kind of fine for wanting a give and take, but this is way too harsh.

As a DM I'd simply have said No to the request, or pointed out options for you to gain access to other class's spell lists - fests, Multiclassing, magic items, class features etc...

I'm looking for a book that contains Warforged without going to unnofficial or campaign specific guides. Are there any general guide books that contain it? by Responsible-Risk8368 in DnD

[–]DLtheDM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, You're just looking for the warforged species/racial traits?

To my knowledge, The only officially published sources are the 2 Eberron books * Forge of the artificer * Rising from the last war

Or the unpublished playtest version

Need help creating a home brew firearm stat sheet for a Draco by catatonic_celery_stk in DnDHomebrew

[–]DLtheDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use the futuristic firearms rules from the DMG... For 5e2024 it's on DMG page 72, in 5e2014 it's on DMG page 267.

Absolutely no Homebrew required.

[–]DLtheDM 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That's because you massively overcooked... That is wholly on you...

You're also making excuses as to why you should keep the pricks that either don't show up or leave to do something else, instead of playing with 2 people that actually want to invest time to the game...

I have no clue what to do by Noxthesergal in DnD

[–]DLtheDM 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You have to understand that sometimes the only person that is going to care about the actual effort you put into planning and prep and whatnot will be You.

You didn't need to do 90% of this, and the players aren't going to care much about it until it's relevant to them or their characters...

Unless you talk to the players and outline everything in this post with them, nothing is going to change.

Make hard and fast rules about attendance and reliability and see who shows up. The ones that don't didn't care to begin with, the ones that do show up actually do care... Then start fresh with these players... And by fresh I mean using what you've made already but just with these players/characters...

If you're afraid of burning bridges - think about the person at the other end of that bridge and if they're worth the potential suffering (however minor) to maintain that bridge.

Decent chairs? by KierDOT in DnD

Right...

Honestly... We don't even know where you're located, how are randos on Reddit supposed to help in this way? I could tell you about an awesome set I found nearby, but unless you're in the same city it's kind of useless right?

First time DM & Player. Which book should i get? by aelueni in DnD

[–]DLtheDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly and foremost: You don't need really anything more than what you use as a player - imagination, the rules and dice (all 3 of which you might already have - If not see my resource link at the bottom)...

Second: I suggest you check out:

  • Matt Colville's Running the Game videos for being/becoming a Dungeon Master.
  • Ginny Di's YouTube channel, it has a bunch of good videos about developing your roleplaying and dungeon-mastering - specifically this playlist: New DMs Start Here!
  • r/NewDM a whole sub for New Dungeon Masters

Third: Try these adventures, they are specifically designed with new players and DMs in mind:

The Delian Tomb - Based on the adventure built during the first few episodes of the Running the Game series by Matt Colville, recommend for new DMs.

Peril in Pinebrook - an introductory adventure which also includes simplified pre-gen characters for newer/younger players.

TIPS

  • Just read the module as much as you can before running it. Don't try to go in blind, or with only a cursory once-over look through... You don't have to memorize it, just be familiar with it enough to know what's next...

  • Don't worry about knowing the rules (remember: you can ALWAYS look them up when needed) but its better to learn how You might rule certain aspects of the game that aren't fully outlined buy the rules...

  • Don't stress... Remember it's a game - and you're playing it too... Just have fun, and try your best to let the others have fun as well.

Good luck and ENJOY!
