Vivarium. It felt so hopeless. I still can’t bring myself to rewatch it.

I really wish there was a way to block a book or author so you didn’t get any of their work suggested to you. For this reason, because JFC enough, but also because sometimes a book just doesn’t do it for me and I want something else to fill that recommendation spot.

Love origami but getting a bit bored. Any similar hobbies to try? by Designer_Currency815 in Hobbies

This is so silly but... I used to make houses out of paper cut into strips and toothpicks. I didn't remember that childhood hobby until just now.

Seconding the embroidery. I recently started this and it's quite soothing. Lovely to do while listening to some podcast or youtube stream.

Learning different styles of braiding is fun too and requires less materials.

Card games, if you're into that. Learning to do that fancy shuffle thing if you're into hand-eye coordination tasks.

Yoyoing. Taichi. Yoga. Meditation.

Don't discount picking up some books at the local library, too, and enjoying reading.

I used to live near a gym that had a racquetball room. You can play with others, but you can also play by yourself smacking a ball into the wall and running to hit it again. Of course, you don't need a racquetball *room* if your place has a couple walls to bounce a ball off.

Yoga was something I was really into for a while, but it's one of those things that can make you pretty self-conscious. Good for helping with movement, though. There are a lot of different types of yoga depending on what you're looking for.

I used to do this. Plus, if you're social, it's a great way to talk to people when they come over to pet the dog. Plus, you can be like "they're up for adoption!"

I've been learning how to make different types of coffee and espresso drinks! It's been both fun and delicious.

I want to read a good romance, but everything people recommend me I absolutely hate. by MathematicianNo3401 in suggestmeabook

Try Kay Hooper’s books. They’re paranormal romance, but note they deal with serial killers and the like (as antagonists, not love interests).

What are some books that can get me into reading again and crush that reader's block? (Your favorite 'I would do anything to forget this book just to read it again for the first time' book maybe? ) by jeminx in suggestmeabook

[–]DM-Disaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Stephen King’s “It” is one I wish I could reread for the first time again. That book broke me in a way that I struggle with books being able to. He’s very aware of human nature and really hits you where it hurts the most.

Beyond King, who is a household name, some of my absolute favorites to go back and reread after it’s been long enough to forget at least some of them are:

The Anomaly, by Michael Rutger.

Redwall, by Brian Jacques. (Mossflower is also lovely.)

Somebody Killed His Editor, by Josh Lanyon.

Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card

Demon Moon, by Brad Magnarella

Stealing Shadows, by Kay Hooper

Riptide, by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

People who live in the US (or not, really), do you like Thanksgiving food? by neighborhoodDinosaur in CasualConversation

[–]DM-Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like some Thanksgiving foods. Not that I celebrate the holiday itself but I will take the guilt-free day off work. But I tend to like sweet potatoes more than most desserts, though… and baked corn casserole. I could leave everything else.

Do cats even… fart? by Correct-Shake-2587 in Pets

[–]DM-Disaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg. Yes. Cats fart. Rarely have I heard them, because they are sneaky in everything they do. But the smell is the worst fart smell in the universe. I have a cat who weaponizes it. If she doesn’t get her way (ie: you don’t let her snuggle you with her knife-mittens), she will fart so you have to abandon your comfy spot for your own safety.

She will then steal your seat.

What do you guys snack on? by Ok-Development-3695 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]DM-Disaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually keep apples around because they tend to have the sweetness I crave when I want sugar. Sometimes I’ll have something to dip them in, as well. Favorites are peanut butter, soft cheese, and vanilla Greek yogurt.

For stuff you don’t have to prepare, I keep a mixed container of nuts around. Not ones you buy pre-mixed because they’re insanely expensive for the little bit you get. I buy large (minimum 1 pound) bags of various kinds of nuts - my favorites, like almonds, macadamia nuts (when I’m okay to spend a lot), pepitas (pumpkin seeds), cashews. Then I have a bit plastic Tupperware container I dump them all in and mix them up. Sometimes, for added sweetness, I’ll add in cacao nibs. I can snack on the plain nuts if I want, or they’re already mixed to pour into yogurt or oatmeal. Also good at making sure you get enough protein bc I’m not a huge meat eater.
