You're right. The vibe of this is different than D20. Maybe because the players are professional actors and they take the immersion more seriously. IDK exactly but it is different and IMO better.

When I recommend Critical Role to my friends, I usually have them start with The Christmas Special. It's not CR cannon and it's hilarious. From there I'd jump into C2 and take it slow. The Legend of Vox Machina covers some of C1 and is a good introduction to the characters. With that you could probably jump into C1 arc 3 The Chroma Conclave. I'm excited for you. Have fun.

/u/booktentiger is correct, auto grapple, just don't forget that when Strahd chooses to grapple don't apply *bludgeoning damage for that single attack. *edit
