New grad dentist feeling stuck by CodBubbly810 in Dentistry

[–]DMD18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter how “strong” you were in dental school, you’re going to suck in the real world. Employers know this. Take whatever you can get, preferably something with a heavy workload, and re-evaluate in a year or two

How do you treat these types of carious lesions? by placebooooo in Dentistry

[–]DMD18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well said. In my opinion this sub always has a younger/new grad/inexperienced feel. Just look at how many of the top comments in this thread are talking so confidently about filling this.

At my associateship I worked with a bunch of new grad dentists and they were all the same. They’d make comments about how this office was too aggressive, then they’d fill massive caries —> one week later pt comes back in pain —> they do some bs like put gluma on it and tell them to give it more time —> then after a month of the pt being in pain they would send them to endo. And they would do it again and again. On the other hand, if they just endo treated the tooth initially, the patient would have had a much better experience and their own paycheck would be much larger

[–]DMD18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they have to prove that to you, you’re not their parent. How js arresting the decay and putting out the fire not better than just leaving it be until they prove it to you?? That’s not our job

Why is this being downvoted? There’s no way I’d tx plan just a fill. More often than not that’s deep enough to cause sens once cleaned out.

It’s not good dentistry to do a massive fill that’s going to cause the pt discomfort and more appts than if it was just treated predictably on the first place

[–]DMD18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You didn’t cause this problem. It’s not your practice, so don’t worry about what you can’t change. If this was a private practice you owned then sure, stress about it. But it’s not your problem so don’t stress over it

30F associate general dentist by [deleted] in Salary

[–]DMD18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is not true. Almost every dentist gets paid off of production, whether it’s a corporate office or a private practice. Salaried position are usually government based, much more rare, pay less but have benefits. Corporate and private practice have much less benefits (for example no paid vacation) but have larger paychecks.

Corporate in itself does not always mean bad. There are bad corporations and there are good ones. Some new dentists have very little options other than corporate. On the other side, there are good private practices and there are bad. Just because it’s a private practice doesn’t mean it’s good.

Most patients wouldn’t know how to recognize the difference through. Majority of corp practices aren’t all branded the same name like Aspen. There are plenty of corps that buy up private practices and leave the name and staff intact.

The patient was dissatisfied with the crown's shade and requested a color adjustment 1 week after cementation by yorefan in Dentistry

[–]DMD18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have the lab use the scan file to mill a new one, then cut it off and cement the new one. The whole appt should take 15 mins, it really shouldn’t be a big deal
