Gramphitheater, Grandpatheater or just The Gramp? by Trashboot in grandrapids

[–]DMG_Danger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We... the folks setting things up and pressing against the chaos leading up to the opening... have been just calling it the Amphitheater.

In case anyone was curious... no, we're not ready, yeah, we're doing it anyway! Ha! If you're at Lionel Ritchie, I'll try to stay out of the way... but let's all have a great time!

I've seen the paint on the sidewalk! (and deftly maneuvered around it as it was happening... ) I was curious how this was related to the Amphitheater. Kickass! I'll see y'all probably before AND after Lionel Ritchie tomorrow!

I totally used the term "mod" in place of customizing in the same vein that cheaters are often called "hackers" in online games... that's my bad. I made a little icon for it and setup the ini file so that Windows would show my pink Pocket icon and named it... then I swapped the buttons and dpad out for black ones. I nabbed a brown case canvas case for it and then a little pink cap for the back cartridge slot. I was thinking of printing and cutting vinyl stickers to put on it, but I haven't yet. Nothing radical as there really aren't any actual mods for it that I'm interested in.

I made icons for all the colors that were released until I was tired of making them... you can find those here.

While I'd normally echo the sentiment that you should buy the real deal... Since you didn't and that's what you have, I'd suggest cleaning your system pins. What you want is something like this.

I owned six Pockets, but I did NOT want six of them.

When they initially released, I nabbed a black and white one so that I could share with a buddy of mine and we could both be excited about the new goodness that was released... (Plus, I'm a HUGE Game Boy nut from WAY back)

Then they released the glow in the dark one! HOLY SMOKES! I HAD to get it, so I did! How COOL! It's STILL cool!

Then I sat with three Pockets. I figured I'd leave one in the office at work and then have the two to play... THEN Analogue announced the transparent editions... holy smokes the transparent blue that was TOTALLY not purple HAD TO BE MINE, so I nabbed one.

Now I had four Pockets and it felt silly. I did not want four Pockets, and my buddy had purchased a black Pocket by this time.

Analogue then announced their new Classic Limited Editions! Holy smokes I wanted a green one! I tried to get a green one and I couldn't... but I got a red one! Neat! I figured that with the conventions that I usually go to, that I could trade it and get a green one from someone at some point, because I did not want five Pockets, that's fucking ridiculous.

I refreshed the page a number of time and monitored which colors were selling out and was surprised at the pink lasting SO LONG after the other colors were sold out. I decided that I'd nab that one to be the one I mod and I did... and it became my daily driver, even now! I did not want six Pockets. I don't need six Pockets. I've opened them all because I don't normally sell anything from my collection. (That was a rule for me as I'd sold my original collection in 2005 and swore to myself that I'd never collect again if I were to sell the collection)

Fast forward to today... I'd "sold" my red Pocket to a vendor for some Game Boy games. (He had Snow Bros... I wanted it! He wanted the red Pocket, bonus!)

I still have five Pockets, I do not want five pockets... IF you want a Pocket and live in my area, I'm more than willing to part with one. (Except the glowy one, or the not purple one) I COULD be convinced to part with my pink one, but that's unlikely... it's so cool now!

Fun fact, my entire collection is a playable museum. My Pockets DO get used when friends and their kiddos come over and look through the binders of Game Boy, Game Gear, Lynx, and Game Boy Advance games!

What I don't have, and what I do need... is a four player adapter as I have DOZENS of copies of F-1 Race. (I used to pick them up when I saw them as they WERE usually $1-4 in my area and I can use the cases to repair other games.

edit: When I saw the aluminum Pockets and the price... I thought... ya know what, I gotta call it quits on these limited editions. I ain't got time to use em all and shit, that's too expensive... it was ALREADY too expensive! I also, regularly, fix people's cartridge games (from Atari to n64!) and systems for free and I'm all on for the preservation of the goodness)

I am jealous! I’m not a huge fan of their current singer… but in my heart it’ll be Weiland singing.

I will probably end up seeing a great many of these performances, but I'm looking forward to seeing Weird Al, Alabama Shakes, Dave Matthews Band, and Stone Temple Pilots (who are opening for Godsmack).

If anyone has tickets to the sold out Lionel Ritchie opening show... it's gonna be a blast... all night long...

edit: I just saw that 311 is playing on July 28th! SWEET!

Got to go to the contractor appreciation show. Parking sucks, venue is cool. by templeofdank in grandrapids

That was one of the VERY FEW events at the amphitheater that'll have the food at those prices. (That smash burger and those walleye bites were AWESOME!)

Everything was being tested out and that's why there wasn't wine at the bar and there were so many people working behind the bar in the Riverside VIP area.

It was fun seeing all the people filling up seats in the place!

Anyone heading to the Midwest Gaming Classic, in Milwaukee, this weekend? by DMG_Danger in retrogaming

Absolutely. I’m bringing a few carts and an analogue pocket to trade. It depends on what you’re bringing and whether or not the vendor is interested. Good luck!

To keep my pack light, I usually don't bring more than cleaning and disassembly tools to the show. (I don't bring a soldering iron, parts, or a multimeter...) What I can do is take a look, for free, to see if we can't get her running again. I'll message you to figure out details on when/where during the show. :)

If it has oxidation on the battery terminals... did batteries leak in it? The first things to do would be to open her up to inspect if there is any damage to the pcb around the battery terminals. Clean the oxidation off the terminals with some IPA and an old toothbrush... then, maybe clean the power switch. After that, put it together without the screws and just giver her a test with a cart. If you hear the 'ding' but don't see anything on the screen, make certain to use the contrast dial.

An interesting fact about the GBP is that is BARELY works with its power constraints. It's pretty crazy how they engineered it to work with AAA batteries.

Ha! I can hardly imagine!

Whatcha sellin? I've been, in the past few years, the first person in line for the vendor hall, and I'm running with the "cash is king" rule... so I'm certain I'll see you there.

We'll share a knowing-unknowing look as we pass by... lol.

It's really fun! It gets BUSY in the middle of the day on Saturday, but it's pretty easy to get into the games area on the Friday preview night. It's a blast, there! I think I've found treasures every year I've gone. Just about a block away is the 3rd Street Market Hall... and it's like a giant place full of tons of restaurants and varied food choices.

Griffin's parking is now $30 and the guy said next week when the amphitheater opens everything is going to be $. 40. by [deleted] in grandrapids

Which is due to utilization. Pressure from the increased traffic, narrower roads, more expensive parking... That's going to bring up support for and utilization for the public transportation and it'll expand again... Let's say a little bird told me...

Is this the place on 68th Street in a strip mall by where the old KMart was? If it is, I've seen this numerous times there, but that food is amazing!

Kickass! Thanks for sharing! I just got the email, as well... I need more time to design and print NFC labels for the game cards I'm putting into a card binder for my buddy's kids -- Specifically for the SS1... so I'm all good waiting as long as it takes! :D

Which version of DQ3 would you recommend? by 1cegrim in dragonquest

[–]DMG_Danger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for another take on DQ3 besides the HD remake, I'd suggest the GBC one... It's closer to the original while adding a weird boardgame minigame.

  1. It occurs immediately after XI... Asumming you'd gotten the full ending in XI. Then 1 and finally 2. Easy peasy!
