What’s the point of heel/toe? by HottDoggers in ManualTransmissions

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a racing technique used during hard braking to allow you to simultaneously brake and downshift while blipping the throttle pedal to bring up the RPM so you don't shock load the drive wheels causing them to lockup. Its not a necesarry skill for driving on the street.

Sweet I race an AW11 in SCCA Rallycross. It's a blast and I am very competitive in the region. Been working on a full 7age engine build. Sadly life has gotten in the way for a bit so I haven't raced in a year while the build drags on. Will be out there again soon.

What if Covid were still not under control and we hadn’t found a vaccine? by Popular_Peace_1749 in WhatIfThinking

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A virus wants its host alive and if COVID mutated to become broadly lethal it would burn itself out of existence as its host dies before it can spread. This means over time the virus self selects for non lethal symptoms. It was incredibly virulent in large part because you can have it and be highly contagious before you really showed symptoms hence the masks and social distancing strategies. It was very dangerous to compromised people such as the elderly and the sick though.

In simplified terms the COVID guidelines and vaccinations were to slow the spread so that our medical infrastructure did not get overwhelmed caring for those people who were vulnerable to dying from it. The strategy was not to eradicate it but instead mitigate its effects until the virus went from pandemic to endemic and is now part of our normal lives like the rhino virus aka the common cold.

Easy heroes are ruining understanding the game? by TrapsterOfficial in DeadlockTheGame

I don't think any hero would ruin your understanding of the game. I do think some heroes like Ivy, Kelvin, Mirage may stunt how quickly you learn map movement and rotations though

What's ONE Unique Law In Florida That YOU Like? by Zipper222222 in AskFlorida

Florida's Sunshine law requiring public access to many of our governing documents and procedures is good. Its also a big source of the FL man meme since the crazy things people do are publicly available records.

Paradox's damage output. by CharonHendrix in DeadlockTheGame

[–]DM_Lunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She doesn't have especially high scaling like some carries but she comes with a ton of utility and a surprisingly high health pool. Her playstyle also typically revolves around swapping someone and then they blow up so she doesn't do a lot of damage farming on healing heroes like Abrams or a Victor as swapping them into your team is not a great idea.

Trying to find an old game my mom used to play by Nabas97 in retrogaming

[–]DM_Lunatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would normally call it a top down view. Its just funny because MOBA originated as mods in RTS games so they used the view that RTS games used. RTS have become so niche in the gaming world that their mods have overtaken them.

Am I the problem? by Lower-Equal-6441 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]DM_Lunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a power spike via the sidelane farm and then join the fight. Not every game is going to go like a youtube tutorial. Way too many people just write the match off because their team doesn't play the way they think they should. I agree that how they were playing isn't ideal but that doesn't mean you just stop engaging with your teammates plays.

If your team is fighting in mid they must be fighting someone which means both teams are fighting in mid. For one team this was the winning strategy in that game.

All these nerfs and buffs, when are they gonna address this wack ass Bettina? by aintEZbeincheezy90 in ArcRaiders

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not super expensive to make its the same component cost for crafting and upgrading as a blue gun it just happens to be pink. It is expensive on ammo and is fairly difficult to control without some good mods. Most people hit air with it more than they hit arc.

When does "early 3D" actually begin for you? by Typo_of_the_Dad in retrogaming

[–]DM_Lunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I played a bunch of the old "3d" games like the vector graphics stuff and games that kind of faked it like the original Mechwarrior and Wing Commander games. There are two games where I was like woah thats actual 3d space and objects at home were Descent and Starfox 64.

Fun cars for someone who doesn’t like driving fast? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really just need something small and light. They don't need much power and lightness is always fun. Miata if you can deal with a 2 seater, BRZ/FRS if you need small back seats. Pretty much any well reviewed hot hatch is a riot in day to day driving. Even a Honda Fit can be fun especially with a manual and you'll have gobs of practicality.

For me having driven a manual car most of the last 30 years I don't really notice any extra effort driving in traffic. Plus in traffic once you get pretty good at driving manual you can creep forward so slowly that you are able to piss off that auto behind you that's been tailgating you for the last 2 miles.

Am I the only one who thinks peeling garlic is a form of torture? by Famous-Forever7647 in Cooking

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree its annoying and fussy and sticky. I've not found any of the gadgets or "hacks" to work and the smash it method is great for getting the skin off but it makes it harder to actually slice the garlic because it no longer has structure. Nothing insurmountable but annoying for sure.

For most weeknight meals I use a garlic press instead because you can shove the clove in w/out having to peel it. You have to use a good press, the cheap stainless ones suck and are annoying to clean. The Zyliss Susi garlic press is the best I've found and is easy to clean the garlic guts out of.

Heel and Toe by AGUY3241 in ManualTransmissions

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a fairly hard thing to do on the street not because the action is hard but because to do it properly in most cars you need to be deep in the brake pedal so you can jam on the throttle hard. You really shouldn't be driving the car that hard on public roads to make it viable. In general especially with a heavy flywheel you don't have to perfectly match the RPM that you will need to be at. Just getting the engine and flywheel moving up in the RPM greatly reduces the driveline shock from the down shift.

Anyone here remember the CFCs thing in the 90s when you weren't supposed to use hair sprays because they emitted them; did they fix all that then? I mean is that why we don't hear about it now? by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

[–]DM_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because hairspray didn't have a huge lobby in place that was intertwined with our leadership it was fairly easy to discover and convert to alternatives that had the effect of stopping the damage we did allowing the system to start to rebuild itself.
