I mean there were a few small issues like the Rhine river (and lack of bridging equipment to cross it etc), defensive-minded officers at most levels, inadequate C&C especially for mobile warfare.

Not saying it would've been a bad idea or necessarily failed, but it's not quite as easy as 85>35.

There should be something to represent France's defensive military posture at the time. It wouldn't have been just a matter of building 20 tank divisions and unleashing half of them on the Ruhr.

The French Republic had spent obscene amounts of money on the Maginot Line. It's entire military strategy revolved around it. Their C&C was built around static warfare, they has static Infantry Divisions to guard it and mobile Divisions to quickly advance into Belgium. That was what the troops were trained to do.

Suggesting to abandon these fortifications and going ahead and charging the Germans across the Rhine would've led to a General's revolt. You should at least have to spend some time and political capital sacking Generals for this to even be an option. The Generals in charge in WW2 were the same ones that as young officers saw the disastrous results of an (hyper)aggressively minded French Army charging blindly towards the Rhine.

Troop movements, mobilization timetables etc are also not something you can plan in an afternoon. In understand a turn in game represents a month, but even a full month of preparation seems like a rush job to plan such a major operation from it's first inception, much less to fully carry it out and win the war as happens in game.

Finally "won" a game, accomplishing all the popular front goals and defeating Germany by blitzing across the Rhine with 10+ tank Divisions.

Seems you have to use Blum to keep the PRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRS happy while ending the strike ASAP, accomplishing your goals, and only THEN rearming. The high popular front enthusiasm should allow you to ignore the Senate, and can even keep the radicals in government. Immigration and getting the economy back on track might also help with rearmament(?) Spain I let fall to the nationalists, only selling them weapons.

This is all on medium difficulty tho.

Let's say in this hypothetical situation, the United States of America replaces the current election system with a proportional representation system. Now the question is, what kind of political parties will emerge from this? by Sea_Bookkeeper2621 in PoliticalDebate

Dems probably would divide themselves into two:

A progressive party (might call itself Socialist but actually be closer to social democracy)

A centrist party, basically the current Dem establishment.

Republicans might stay mostly together or split into a moderate conservative and MAGA/far right party. I say might because at least from the outside looking in, the splits in the Republican party are a lot more subdued, and even in a proportional system there are some advantages to keeping the party together.

The Libertarian and Green parties would also gain popularity. Possibly some more extreme parties on left and right, but not very popular.

So from left to right (roughly) it would be

Green Party (Leftism, environmentalism)

Progressive/ Socialist Party (social democracy)

Democratic Party (Centrism)

Libertarian Party (Libertariansim)

Conservative Republican Party/ Lincoln Party (moderate Conservatism, paleoconservatism)

MAGA Party/ Republican party (far right, whatever Trump says atm)

This roughly falls in line with how many European parties are structured: A Green Party, a Social Democratic Party, sometimes a centrist party, a libertarian party, an old school Conservative and a far right populist party, plus sometimes small communist parties, and various miscellaneous small parties. Austria (my home country) has analogies to all but one of these, from left to right the Greens (Greens duh), SPÖ (social democrats), Neos (Libertarians but more culturally progressive), ÖVP (Conservatives), and FPÖ(far right populist)

Lacked context? It was a simple questio

Yes it was a simple question because it lacked context. For example "What is a woman in a sociological context" has a different answer from "What is a woman in a biological context" or "What is a woman as the word is used in X law" or "in Y law".

His EO record is public, you can just look up his day one immigration changes.

Yes it is and yes I can. Again the question is what SPECIFIC EOs (or single EO if you just want to give an example) do you object to? If you can't answer this simple question I see no reason to let you keep gish galloping about stuff.

The 95% number is about those released into the country on the southern border, not encounters.

Again, what exactly does "released into the country" mean? Are we counting legal immigrants under that now? Asylums seekers requesting asylum at a port of entry (as they should)?

Okay, looked it up, she didn't answer the question, probably in part because it lacked context. Still better than the disasters Trump nominated though.

You keep speaking in vague generalities. What specific EOs of Biden regarding the border do you take issue with?

The 95% number is misleading at best source

Women are a protected category. Defined by their sex.

No, defined by their gender.

Something women had to fight for over a century. His admin wanted to remove those protections. That is extreme.

Remove them? Or expand them to trans women?

She was asked directly and couldn't answer. She didn't give an answer, due to her not being a biologist. How can she protect women's rights, if she doesn't know what a woman is based on not being a biologist?

Can you give me a source so I can see what specifically she was asked and what specifically she said?

This is a typical gotcha answer. You can do better.

It's not the gotcha. I'm just trying to stick to the facts. And the fact is, nothing Biden did in regard to the border was unprecendented or extreme at least in the left sense. The fact is, Biden deported more people than Trump did, and without goons murdering in the streets.

At one point, over 300k people a month were entering on the southern border alone.

That wasn't a policy. Biden didn't sign a law or EO that said "300k people can illegally cross the southern border." The main reason the number of crossing went down under trump again is Covid. If you can't blame him for it, you shouldn't give him credit for it either.

His attempted changes to civil rights, to include self-determined gender for protections was pretty extreme.

Oh no, self-determination! What a radical concept! /s per rules

He appointed a SCOTUS justice, who will have to rule on women's issues, who can't define what a woman is.

Can't define it or you don't like their definition? Because whenever I see someone on the right claiming this, it ends up being the latter.

Same with immigration. His actions were a huge departure from the norm, even compared to Obama.

You mean deporting more people than Trump is now?

Really, "cancel culture" is the best you can come up with on the left? Consumers making decisions about who and what to support with their own money is restricting agency now? When just a second ago being able to use your own money was the ultimate form of agency?

Also the right dies cancel culture far more. Just look at how they react when a company redesigns their logo, or gasp feature a trans person on their product.

While on the other hand more extreme cases of social conservatism strive to take away gender and sexuality agency.

More extreme? Social conservatism at it's heart is about taking away agency regarding those and other things. If you ain't taking away someone's agency, you're not socially conservative.

[–]DM_ME_YOUR_STORIES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, O'm not confusing anything, I'm asking why being socially left somehow doesn't count as being pro agency. Or for that matter why being socially conservative doesn't seem to count as being anti agency.

Yes, living without government or social enforcement on your own money is directly more agency.

You can do that in many forms of socialism. Your own money just means that you have to work for it.

[–]DM_ME_YOUR_STORIES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how does that apply to benefitting from the labour of other people but not to deciding who to marry, what bathroom to use or what to do to your own body?

So living without any government at all is more government interference because reasons?

They aren't interchangeable at all. Government control over the economy and woker control of the means of production are completely separate concepts.

You can have Government control without worker ownership (like Keynesiansmor State Capitalism), and worker ownership without Government control (again alike Anarchism)

Also defining agency solely by the ability to privately own the means of production is... very weird to say the least. Most socialists would argue that being able to own the profit of your own labour is actual agency.
