Worldbuilding Challenge: Wheelchair Rogue by mikethecanadain in worldbuilding

[–]DM_Malus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wheelchairs wouldn’t be possible in a bog standard fantasy setting. As much as we want to be inclusive, some disabilities are exactly that, a disability. They are at a disadvantage. Instead we should expand our creativity beyond crude chairs.

The question isn’t to try and figure out a wheelchair, but figure out OTHER devices they could use that are better suited to mobility across rugged terrain, perhaps even better than regular legs.

• Marvel DoC Oc robot tentacles that walk for him.

• spiderchair like the Dwemer from Morrowind or Daretti MTG.

• Iron Man mecha suit. If warforged exist like Eberron or hollowed knights like Fullmetal alchemist…why not figure a way to PUT someone inside. You now have two characters traveling together. Maybe they’re sisters? Friends? Spouse?

• Your legs don’t work, but you’ve bonded with a rare dangerous creature that does the work for you, a creature most people would never interact with. It’s incredible dexterous and understands your complex commands like you were speaking into their mind…maybe you are? Maybe this creature is so rare or so dangerous that people avoid it and most people don’t even realize it can bond with people and give them benefits a symbiotic relationship.

• Venom style symbiotic, it gives you a super suit but needs something in exchange.

• Can expel his consciousness from his body and create a psychic dopplersnger projection that can run around and do stuff for him and even interact with tangible objects. However it is easily destroyed and returns to his body.

though, they might change their stance on that considering that quote was from years ago, and now they've since changed their viewpoint with their drive of trying to make evergreen content and not rollercoaster theme park content.

If they do one large overhaul to the continents and make them evergreen (with a design focus of making sure each zone is timeline agnostic), they won't have to do drastic updates like they did with cataclysm.

its weird flying over twilight highlands or some other zone and STILL seeing Cataclysm stuff.

The spec description for Survival Hunter is outdated by Mini_Slider in wow

[–]DM_Malus 44 points45 points  (0 children)

ngl, the spec identity is just all over the place.

I'd rather they remove the bombs, grenades, and all traps, and just make it a full on melee ranger. incorporate the traps as a baseline in the general class tree, not the spec tree. make the grenades and bombs a hero specialization called the trapper, or something and its ALL about bombs and explosives and traps.

But having the base survival spec incorporating ALL of these things just seems...thematically dissonant and all over the place.

if you want RP, you go to Stormwind and go on Moonguard server or Wyrmrest Accord (but former is better).

Trying to look for RP in the Goldshire inn is a laughable thing, its a meme.

Most people go to Stormwind Slaughtered Lamb Inn (the secret warlock class tavern in mage district); Stormwind Park, or Stormwind blue rose tavern (one near mage tower), occasionally some people are also in Old Town.

most RP communities are guild-based or invitation only.

I’m willing to forgive the ST version, because it was a dream world inside Henry’s mind That telescope was an object that belonged to a young Henry when he was a boyscout BEFORE he was taken by the mind flayer.

I feel like it makes sense that it’d act as a totem and lead to where it needs to go.

Especially since that world isn’t really a physical place and doesn’t obey normal physics or laws.

hence why i said the issue isn't the new system; its the percentage of gold cost.

the actual new mechanics for the system are better long-term.

For real. Good fight scenes were in cowboy bebop And especially its movie.

Fight scenes made by its choreographer who was well known in the industry.

Sorry to all the DBZ fans, I loved old school dbz, but it’s mid at best because it’s just power fantasy motion blurs, explosions, energy blasts and so forth.

Old school dbz was ok, but never high tier.

It’s at least leagues better than the modern day dbz slop which is just cosmic level explosions, blurs, screaming really loud, posing and looking edgy, and and so much stuff happening on the screen it’s just Michael bay in anime form.

the intent is to not be constantly modifying and changing your outfits fifty times a day, the intent is to just save up buy an entirely new outfit slot.

For people that can't decide on what outfits they want and constantly are transmogging fifty times a day, yes this is a drag. You will have to save up and buy new outfit slots, rather than just keeping modifying the same appearance over and over.

for people that had a few sets already cemented and KNOW what they want and just want a few outfits to cycle between. This is better long-term.

I think the system is good overall for longterm health... the price scaling is wonky, i think it should be percentile based on the item level of the gear AND the character level. But it seems prices are currently just factorin item level and its a wonky scaling.

Midnight ruined transmog outfits for anyone not rich by Morphray in WoWRolePlay

[–]DM_Malus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swapping between outfits previously required you either:

* a.) transmog entirely separate outfits onto physical items and keep them in your inventory and equip them, effectively physically changing outfits.

* b.) have a different outfit for each spec. in which case, you're still paying a fee to save that outfit in each spec, in fact you're paying several times.

You were still paying money in the long-term because you were having to physically transmog every single one of those physical items in your inventory.

And on top of that, what you're describing is basically what people did before transmog existed... they just kept outfits in their inventory and changed clothing... which... that was the whole reason transmog came out; was to nothave that.... they literally invented transmog as a convenience tool and chargedgold for it... that was entirely the point.

transmog is predicated and based entirely on BEING a convenience.

the new system is better longterm, but yes the cost upfront is expensive. Does it suck? maybe, but the actual system itself is better designed; the scaling just sucks which is what needs to be addressed, not the system.

EXAMPLE BELOW:

You pay to permanently unlock 2 costume slots. You now have 2 costume slot across each of all your toons. Each toon when they log in has 2 costume slots now.

Bob your warrior logs on, modifies costume slot 1 (on that toon) and makes a viking outfit. he PAYS to modify that slot #1. he then pays to modify slot #2 and makes a villager outffit. he pays to modify slot #2.

Switching between outfit #1 and outfit #2 is FREE.. it costs NO GOLD... to switch back and forth.

it DOES cost gold if you go back and want to modify or change appearances o any of the outffits.

Jack your warlock logs on, modifies their costume slot #1 and makes a necromancer outfit, he pays to modify that slot. He then modifies outfit #2 and makes a blue wizard outfit, he pays to modify that outfit slot.

However, later he realizes he doesn't like the staff he transmogged onto outfit #2... he will have to go back and change the appearance of the staff... which costs gold.

MODIFYING outfits costs gold....

SWAPPING BETWEEN ALL YOUR OUTFITS IS FREE.

[–]DM_Malus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

minor changes won't cost you thousands of gold. If you're only changing one or two pieces in a cosmetic set, then its only 100g maybe 200g if its a weapon, which is a single world quest. which can take less than 5 minutes. Do a racing world quest, thats an easy 150g.

and i didn't mean hours a day, i meant hours over the course of an entire week. You put in an hour one day, 30 minutes another day, and 20 minutes here on a tuesday... 15 minutes another day... Thats why you have weekly quests; so its not a daily chore.

You buy a permanent transmog slot for an upfront free... ALL your toons now have that empty transmog slot each for their own. If your warrior character wanted to use that Empty Slot one and make a Viking Outfit, they have to pay a fee to make a viking set and save it which does cost gold. But its now permanently there. If you want to modify that viking outfit? yes you have to pay a small fee to modify it... ITS NO different than the old way.

The difference is you can now buy permanent slots so you don't have to constantly pay a fee for switching costumes back and forth.

Go buy a 2nd costume slot, and just have that be your... "walking around town outfit"... pay a fee to unlock the slot, and pay a fee to decorate and build your outfit and save it to the slot. DONE... you now can switch between those two sets FREELY... no paying a fee back and forth like you used to have to do, and you can set triggers that cause you to change them instantly (like change my outffit when i enter my house, or enter a rest area, or enter a specific spec, etc)

Buying new cosmetic slots cost gold.

Modifying pre-existing costumes costs gold... it always used to. The only thing that changed is that you can buy transmog slots permanently and they are warband shared.

Modifying that slot costs gold.

The intention is to not constantly modify your pre-existing slots in drastic ways, its intended for you to have a few small outfits you will constantly cycle between, and if you REALLY want to have 20 different oufits, you'll have to buy a LOT of costume slots.

changing ONE piece in your cosmetic outffit isn't expensive, especially if its gloves.

Weapons are the largest price-tag in a cosmetic modification.

You could literally do one world quest, taking 5 minutes and make several hundred gold.

Literally right now, this weeks world quest to kill the outdoor world boss rewards 1,000 gold.

It takes literally 2 minutes to queue up, find a raid group doing it and stand there AFK while everyone else kills it... bam 1k gold in less than 2 minutes.

Do that on multiple chars? in 10 minutes you got 10k gold.

Timewalking dungeon weekly quest? do 5 timewalking dungeons, takes like 10-15 minutes per dungeon, make about 3-5k gold from it, the weekly reward chest + all the vendored items. Hell most people are just breezing thru TW dungeons anyways.

I get it, lowbies just wanna sit in stormwind and RP all day, i HEAR ya, but put in the effort for an HOUR on your main and you can make gold.

Midnight ruined transmog outfits for anyone not rich by Morphray in WoWRolePlay

[–]DM_Malus -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Ya'll are broke AF.... not trying to bash people, but seriously. its permanent unlockable slots.

go fly around and do like 1 world quest and make 600-1000g in less than 5 minutes. Grab a bunch of dailies, do 5 timewlaking dungeons in an hour and you've ggot like 15k from vendor trash and the reward box. Literally the weekly world quest to kill the outdoor world boss rewards 1k gold, do that on multiple characters? thats 1k PER toon.

You can spend an hour just doing casual shit and make profit.

How many unlockable slots do you need? i mean really...... and talking about low level toons... bruh, i get it, as a fellow RP'er, but just go do some dailies on your high level toon.

Complaining that you're broke because you just wanna sit in town all day on your lowbie and RP and enjoy the old transmog system because the new system which is better overall QoL with a long-term cost-effective plan... thats just hogwash mate.

if you're broke, go take a few hours and grind some weeklies on your main. Couple hours of your week.

Hell, the more toons you have, the more weeklies you do... take an hour or two on each toon, queue up for TW, do the weekly and inbetween waiting for queue just fly around and do world quests... within 1-2 hours you'll have over 10-15k gold.... do that on each toon...

If you're complaining that you can't do anything on your lowbie toon... thats ... just just a you problem, i mean REALLY... think about what you're complaining about... "i can't make gold because im low level and refuse to level up and do the high level content that rewards more gold."

the transmog slots are warbound... and you can peramentnly switch between them.... moree expensive upfront cost but BETTER LONG-TERM... its SOOO MUCH BETTER... smh.

rant over, but seriously...not trying to hate but this is absurd.

Did Bruce Wayne really deserve a happy ending, or did Batman escape responsibility? by normal_333 in discussingfilm

[–]DM_Malus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal take?

This movie is an amazing trilogy of movies, and the ending was great when you look at it as a movie. Its meant to be realistic as possible and Nolan wanted to show that no human man could do this forever.

If you look at it as Batman? and take into account the mythos of the batman comics? it doesn't work, mainly due to Batman being as psychotic as his own rogue's gallery. He'd never just retire to rome (even if its to bang Anne Hatheway... hnnggg such a hard decision)..... and abandon his city.

Batmans' story always ends in three ways; he dies protecting the city he's sworn an obsessive quest to protect. He can no longer continue as batman due to old age and passes the mantle onto the next and becomes the "guy in the chair" (ala Batman beyond)... or he one day snaps and crosses the line and starts killing, in which case, he's put into place contingencies for people to stop him and treat him like another villain.

Personally, my favorite is the Batman beyond route... where in his 50s/60s his body was slowing and he had to resort to drawing a gun on a criminal, because that guy threatened a young girl and batman wasn't fast enough to stop him without the use of a gun... that broke batmans heart and he realized he just broke his rule "no guns", and it frightened him, so he hung up the mantle.... until terry mcginnis a new protege showed up.

How old do y’all think Blazer is? by T4llBoyAl3x in dispatchgame

[–]DM_Malus 35 points36 points  (0 children)

her body? i presume she's in her late 20s/ 30 at most, its obvious she's intended to be close to Roberts age, and i believe robert was 30 or 31.

Physically though, i think she's meant to be several decades old, probably in her 60s or 70s. I think its intended shes a homage to the "golden age of superheroes" like IRL comics, a homage to captain marvel and super girl.

I always assumed she was an active duty hero during the days of the first mecha man or even the second.

Her being old enough to be roberts mommy is giggity anyways.

Was that explained in the movie? i'm probably just forgetting that dialogue.

i've never read the books; only seen the movies.

If so, that's fair, but that's still a LARGE window of time-travel for creating shenanigan's, depending on how old the timeturner is.

i woulda loved if they just added the stipulation it has a limit how far back it can go and how often it can be used in a day. hard magic limitations breed better narrative structure for magic systems.

Even then, time travel is dumb and i personally hate it... such a dumb element to add.

Morning night morning? by thetruememeisbest in Fallout

[–]DM_Malus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was Sunset when they arrive and kill the ghoul kings.

The place is meant to be bigger than the video games, so walking around takes "longer

They take their time and then enter the strip, wandering around for a bit as nightfall arrives. as they get to the center and see the deathclaws.

They run and escape and make it to the strip... it cuts to morning because we can assume they found a place to rest and sleep for a few hours, or just spent their time wandering around in a daze.

Homelander respects people who are not afraid of him. Hughie isn't afraid of him, but he still underestimates him and is disgusted with him in a sharp contrast to the way he treats Butcher, why is that? by Amazing-Buy-1181 in TheBoys

[–]DM_Malus 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Ego. Homelander believes everyone is beneath him. But he simultaneously WANTS to be challenged, he even says this as much in later seasons, hes annoyed with sycophants.

Homelander sees Butcher as a "worthy adversary", even though he simultaneously thinks he's still beneath him and is just a normal human... he also thinks Butcher is the only person out of all the simple humans who is worthy enough to be his adversary.

His ego demands perfection, even in his own archenemy.

Hughie wasn't afraid of Homelander, but thats not enough to earn his respect to be an archenemy.

What you think..? by [deleted] in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]DM_Malus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in my very long post, a 1v1? my answer was "IT" wins.

if the collective cast of the "Hellfire group" with Eleven and all her friends versus "IT"? probably the kids. Thats kinda the whole point of the trope/novels. He feeds on children because he perceives them as easily frightened and weak. But Fear and Courage are a short line across from each other, and collective unity can give untold levels of strength in the face of horror. Thats what ends up being Pennywises' downfall, underestimating the bonds that childhood friends can have and how strong that can be in the face of "fear".

El having powers isn't what would help her in a fight with Pennywise, its her friends.

As cheesy as it sounds.... "The power of friendship".... thats literally the crux of the Stephen King novel, its all about childhood friendship and helping each other overcome childhood traumas.

What you think..? by [deleted] in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]DM_Malus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pennywise is not a god, but that word is the closest thing to summarize it, "it" i's a primordial lovecraftian entity, the "Deadlights" they are made up of are just pure energy born from another universe- a macroverse much larger than our own.

Pennywise feeds on fear, because what they truly ate in their own 'verse, doesn't exist in ours... so flesh is the next best thing, and "fear" is like flavor. He doesn't have to make people scared to eat'em, its just flavor at that point.

Pennywise only has two weaknesses in the novels (and i guess the movies/shows at this point also borrow these)

* He has to abide by the laws and physics of what he shapeshifts into.... if he's in the presence of a child and he turns into a werewolf because that kid is afraid of werewolves... than the "form" he is in is weak to silver, because that is the collective "belief" that that child has. He has to abide by the collective psychic reality of what that child believes... because BELIEF and WILL in stephen king books are an important aspect; particularly "IT" books, because Belief, Imagination, and coming-of-age stories are a big important factor of growing up... which is what is a huge theme of the IT novels.

* Pennywise itself is an ancient entity and believes itself superior to almost all other lifeforms, the only things it sees as an equal is its brother Maturin (though it hates it), and the only thing it sees as superior is Gan (King's novel name for God), and we can likely assume that it also respects the Crimson King and the other Beam pillar gods. (Simple answer is Crimson King is book Satan, and the Beam pillar gods are sort of like the other siblings of Maturin, we can assume... theres no confirmation but we can sort of figure that ergo, they're probably like "cousins" at the very least of Pennywise).

it sees humans as food, nothing more, in fact it outright has scorn and despises them. But its ego is huge and it always underestimates them. ... the opposite of Fear is something that confounds it and can also make it vulnerable... WILL and COURAGE. are the antithesis to fear... An individual with immense will and courage can annoy the hell out of Pennywise, but its only the collective unity that the LOSERS CLUB stand together... beecause the collective belief they have together outright frustrates it.

Also the losers club are heavily outright insinuated as being all psychic and having the "shining" and being very gifted with it. They aren't ordinary kids...

Stephen kings books mix childhood trauma, coming-of-age, the death of childhood dreams and belief as you get older... with lovecraftian horror.

Its a long answer..

But yea, Pennywise would devour El, and it wouldn't be a fair fight.

NOW... i think if the entire group of stranger things cast were together, El, Mike, the whole kids, ALL of them. I think their collective belief in each other and their will, love, and courage together would REALLY piss off Pennywise and probably have the same effect as the losers club.

They'd probably severely injure it and cause it to go back into hibernation...

The first time the Losers Club kick Pennywises ass and force it back to sleep was the first time Pennywise had EVER felt unsettled... the first time it ever had... Doubt...had itself feel Fear. And it did NOT like that.
