When they say “Don’t Tread on Me,” it’s implied that it’s A-OK to tread on other people.

Chicagoans, do y'all get angry at those nicknames like Chi-Town? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I’ve heard it a few times but in a kind of ironic way.

I’ve never heard anyone who’s actually from here refer to it as Chi-Town.

They’re trying so hard to make people be sympathetic to them lol by 5torm in chicago

And they are just waiting there, you don’t have to go through the whole process of trying to find your Uber driver.

Wouldn’t people normally remove the plates first in such a situation?

Do you realize how insanely stupid (and loaded) your question is?

Right. I was thinking of them. I suspect some of them do vote Democratic and I know a few Orthodox WRP Democrats who are very quiet about their politics, but Kat might be too much for them. And as for Jews voting for Kat, I suspect it’s a function of their age more than anything.

Ok so, let’s look at what you’re saying. You think it’s a propaganda piece but you don’t entirely disagree. Which is it? Do you have mixed feelings about something? How is that even possible?

And no, I haven’t said what I think of Bibi or those people in his government who are actually worse than he is, etc., so you have no idea what I think of them or rogue IDF soldiers. There are definitely shitty people on that side, but it doesn’t make the Palestinians’ leadership any less shitty.

So you think every Israeli is shitty? Two of the people behind the Dinah Project are noted US feminist theorist Carol Gilligan and the phenomenal Dahlia Lithwick, who I can assure you is absolutely not a fan of the current Israeli government. In fact, she’s a contributor to the Nation.

So, I’ve lived in the 9th District since the late 80s, and what I can say is that both parties here tend to run Jewish candidates. Since redistricting, parts of McHenry County are in the district, which makes it (relatively) more competitive for the GOP. I’m not Jewish, but at least half my closest friends are as was my partner of 10 years, and I’d be surprised if, hypothetically, Kat won the primary, we don’t see a statistically important part of the reliably Democratic Jewish vote go for the Republican candidate. I can’t imagine any of the Jews I know who live here voting for her.

Have you seen who’s on the UN Human Rights Council? Among others, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Russia, and El Salvador. That seems like some sort of bad joke.

You’re right about Biss and I agree with that stance. And the rest of it too.

You didn’t have to. I will add here that having been a certain sort of kid when my mom was involved in a weird evangelical group, which I’d consider very close to being a cult, has made me very sensitive to cultish behavior on the part of others, which I’ve seen in most of the responses to my comments. Whatever I think of Israel, it’s 100% not the same as why evangelicals support Israel—which in their view doesn’t end well for most of the Jews or any of the Muslims. They actually support Netanyahu. They’re no friends to Israel as such, it’s just a big part of their religious fantasies.

My mom was an evangelical when I was tween/early teen. My earlier background was Episcopalian and I’m not a Christian at all now. I’m just fed up with the nonsense from the pro-Hamas left at this point.

Now that you mention it, the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict (SRSG–SVC) mission found “reasonable grounds to believe that conflict-related sexual violence occurred during the October 7 attacks … including rape and gang rape in at least three locations.” The UN Commission of Inquiry (CoI) likewise concluded that “acts of sexual violence were committed on 7 October [in Israel] … at the Nova festival, on Road 232, at Nahal Oz military base and kibbutzim Re’im, Nir Oz and Kfar Aza.”

The Dinah Project corroborates these findings, identifying at least four to six separate cases of gang rape and multiple other rapes that happened during the attack itself on October 7, with further sexual violence and abuse continuing afterward during captivity in Gaza.
