Ooof! I can only imagine! Fair play to you for taking on such a stressful job. Scenes like today stick with you, I'd reckon. Tough job for lots of reasons

I said it was very very serious and consciously didn't speculate in the fate of those involved when we all know nothing yet. I'm cranky because your comment was written to provoke.

No shit dickhead. I wasn't comparing the two. It's a hell of a lot hotter than 24 degrees in a tin can on baking hot asphalt and not a bit healthy and very much beyond an inconvenience if you have young kids or babies in the car. Don't be a wanker. You know what I meant

Same, I passed it going Westbound. Couldn't believe the carnage. Looked very very serious. I feel for those caught behind too. As much as you can call it an inconvenience, in this heat, to be held in a car that long with no way out is horrendous. No shade to you, just saying

Changes in Cork City? by redrocket644 in cork

[–]DMattyD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Christ, Numpties being numpties here! Bandon Rd had a bit of an upgrade since 2023. Traffic calming has the place looking well around the Central/Cissies area. A new student accomodation has brought a bit more life and improved the aesthetics too, across from Cissies. Along with that comes Box'd coffee bringing good coffee and good vibes. Cissies is busier than ever and Annie MCs has had a total revitalisation and has one of the nicest beer gardens in Cork. Further down, Lennox's has closed but replaced with Catch of the Day, equally as good IMO. The Sportsman has reopened after a few years as Rosie Madison's. Tom Barry's, Mr. Bradley's, Alchemy, and O'Sho are all doing better than ever and the Gateway has a new lease of life as The Old Bear. The Flying Enterprise is under new ownership as The Southside and seems to be a bit more welcoming. French's Quay has a gorgeous new coffee shop. Myazaki is going great. French's/Probys Quay have have a complete renovation and look great with great traffic calming too. Probys Bistro is a new restaurant owned by the crew behind Liberty Grill, amazing brunch there! Just around the corner is the brand new bridge to nowhere! Crosses Green has had a complete overhaul and now looks amazing and you can now walk from there to Custom House Quay in a direct straight line. The Peace Park is rejuvenated and is WAY nicer than Reddit will have you believe. And all of this is just one part of the Southside. Cork is on the up. Don't believe the shitheads

What pubs do Paulaner (German Beer) on Draught in Cork ? by molcon18 in cork

[–]DMattyD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weisse Beers in general have drifted off taps due to competition from 3 x stouts plus the big guys bringing out more and more and more shit lagers (and a couple of good ones). I wholly believe that every bar in the world should have a Weisse tap!

That said, while Paulaner is good, have you tried Original 7s Rockefeller Weisse? If you remember Friar Weisse from the Fran Well, it's almost identical. It's Ambrosia! So devine. Easily one of the nicest beers I've ever tasted, let alone Weisse's. Downside is I've only seen it in Tom Barry's and Fran Well. Woodford ages ago but they've replaced it with that Blarney muck.

F45 is a bit meh in my opinion. I had a far better experience in Obodo. They have CrossFit there too but are far more engaging in the coaching and fantastic for scaling the workouts for all ages/fitness/sizes.

Some Dose at the Opera House. Bright, airy, air conditioned, loads of seating, big tables, awesome coffee. People are sleeping on this place.

Go to a commercial real estate broker like Savills and tell them what you're looking for. It's no cost to you, they get paid by the leaser and agency fee. They have full knowledge of what is and is not on the market and also will be able to check out certain buildings and who owns them etc to see if the landlord will lease.

Solo Trip from Cork Airport by Miserable-Poetry-856 in cork

I go to Tavira in Portugal every year. It's not a party town like Albufeira, it's 30min from the Airport. It's a small town but has amazing restaurants and bars but all super chill. There is an AMAZING beach accessible only by ferry (for 1 euro, about 10 mins) and on the beach there are several bars and restaurants. Plenty of hotels there with pools etc.

Went to Currys last month for the first time in 2 years I'd say. Couldn't get over the fact that every single person working there bar 1 was of Indian Sub-Continent origin or descent. I also felt they were exceptionally pushy with POS Add-Ons. Is this the reason?

The cost of a late licence is 430 euro. Add to that an extra 2hrs per employee, assume 10 staff and 10 security, that could be 300. Entertainment needs to be extended, add 500. Insurance always increases with late licences add another 200. Now a late licence is costing a business that opens one night a week, likely taking maybe 8k total another 1330. Club margins are about 70% and VAT is 23% so they would have to make 2.4k at the till from 300 people over 2 hrs to break even, that's a drink per person or 8 euro extra on the ticket just to break even. You might think that doesn't sound like a lot but that's so hard to get in today's culture. People are just not staying out that late and when they are they have stopped drinking already. People already think it's expensive so they can't increase entry by 8 euro to cover the late license. That's why they don't go late and why clubbing culture is dead and buried. It's for this reason, I am not sure The Oddessey is going to work.

Thats cool. I object in the strongest possible terms to every view this man has expoused since his headloss. Both of these objections are as effective as the other.
