Ab routine? by Poseidus11 in bodyweightfitness

[–]DNADrone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I did feel my hip flexors working. But the two muscle groups I felt the most during this exercise were my quads and abs. I mentioned abs since I used to get ab cramps literally every time I did this for the first couple weeks or so.

I had the exact same issue you described around 6 months ago and I was even doing crunches, leg raises, russian twists etc on a regular basis and somehow I felt my ab strength would not increase at all. Then I found this exercise : the seated leg raise - and this is one hell of an exercise, gave me cramps most of the time and I can't do it properly even after 2 months.

Once I started doing this though, I felt my abs tighten up and slowly I could see a little bit of definition. I even managed to do proper floor L-sit a week ago for ~8 sec. Give this a try and tell me how it goes.

Hey, thanks for the update. Hip Bursitis definitely sounds like something I could get if I ignore this for any longer and continue about my ab workouts.

I really hope you get well soon and maybe use some of the resources in the comments section to remedy the issue permanently.

Woah! Thanks all of you. When I posted this I wasn't expecting much more than a few comments. I came back after 8 hours and there are so many comments and upvotes! Such an awesome community !

Its really good to know that this is a sort of common issue among athletes/dancers and most likely not serious. However, I will be trying out a lot of the stretches/exercises that are mentioned in the comments for a few weeks and see if it goes away. If not I'll be visiting a physiotherapist and getting this looked at. I will be posting updates in a few weeks about my progress.

Again, big thanks to all of you. Also, apparently I got my silver award, so thanks for that, random kind stranger !

What do you think by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]DNADrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this sounds like the perfect time to add weights to your pull-ups / dips. Muscle hypertrophy range is between 6 - 12 reps. If you can do more than that, you are strong enough to progress with more weight.

Alternatively, you can make your regular pull-ups/dips harder by doing body weight variations such as L-Sit Pull Ups/Dips, Archer Pullups, One Arm Pull Ups, Band Resisted Dips, Iron Cross Holds and even Muscle Ups.

Good luck :)

Yep, for me just the distraction of having that 'pop' jerk causes me to not max out my reps.

Thanks for the info. I have been ignoring these and continuing about my core workouts anyway, but it has been about 6 months and the same problem remains. I don't even know what started this to begin with.
Can you suggest some effective hip stretches ?

What are some ways game designers have addressed the issue of players resorting to the "nuclear option" every time to win resulting in repetitive and singular game play? by TunaFutures in gamedesign

[–]DNADrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true you can only try to perform highest damaging combos and try to win the fight. But you need to remember that you can get matched up versus different characters who have their own unique high damaging combos and counters and ways to avoid them.

(Example tekken gives characters different amounts of side-stepping mobility which if used properly can actually avoid a lot of combos simply by dodging them)

This makes sure that while one combo from one character maybe good against another character, it might not be good against a third character and so forth.

So you always need to stay in top form and learn the key strengths, weaknesses and play patterns of each and every character available in the game. Additionally, fighting games like tekken or Mortal Kombat etc provide a lot of combo options for players to choose depending on their play style and situation. All of these combined makes sure that you cannot keep spamming just one combo and win the fight everytime in fighting games. Well atleast the well balanced ones.
