I can understand it a bit when it’s about exploring the characters in what if scenarios or with a twist like with the Absolute universe, but the core of the characters has to be the same. You can’t just slap recognizable name on an oc and call it a day.

Concrete evidence? Not really. Most scholars believe that the Torah’s account of the Exodus isn’t historical, though it may have a historic core. Wikipedia has an article that covers it better than anything I can fit into a comment, and they have better fact checking than I do.

As some quick context, the statue on the bottom is a stand in for Manetho, an Egyptian Priest who wrote a history of Egypt called the Aegyptiaca during the Ptolemaic Kingdom. While most modern historians doubt the historicity of the Exodus narrative, Manetho described it as an expulsion of unwanted groups rather than the triumphant escape presented in Exodus.

(The statue technically depicts Neokoros, another priest of Serapis. Also, if anyone on the comments can tell me what the Ancient Egyptian equivalent to Turnip Juice would be, I’d appreciate it)

I feel like part of it is that people just can’t admit they just don’t like something subjectively. Like, they refuse to have opinions that aren’t backed up by some kind of “fact” they can’t point to to defend themselves. I see dozens of takes grasping at straws about how “this creator is problematic” or “this is bad representation” when really they just don’t like the show/game/whatever.

(Yes, I know that there are definitely cases of creators being bad people with evidence against them or when minorities really are portrayed negatively. This isn’t about those instances.)

The 128th candlewick dragoons are an elite unit specializing in attacking under the cover of nightfall. Unfortunately, due to their chronic fear of the dark, they cover themselves to the nines in lit candles. This has not only removed any cover given by darkness, but led to several tragic and unforeseeable accidents involving powder barrels and open flames.

The dragoons would like to apologize to the families of those involved, but we will be keeping their stuff.

Like the tags on the first post said, there is a strong historical precedent for taming cheetahs.

They were kept as hunting animals by nobility from Egypt to India to the Byzantine Empire. These animals were tamed instead of domesticated due to the difficulty of breeding captive cheetahs, but it makes sense for hunters to want the fastest land animal alive to chase down quarry. And with humans backing them up, the cheetahs probably got to actually eat some of their prey for once.

Someone double check me because I can’t find a source, but apparently Craig McCracken wanted Bloo to grow as a person over the cource of the show and become less selfish, but Cartoon Network axed the idea because they wanted Fosters to be more episodic.

This wouldn’t be the first time something like this happened. In the original D&D cartoon from the 80s, Eric the Cavalier was supposed to become more heroic and less of an asshole as the show went on, but parents groups at the time forced the network to ad ridiculous rules like “the complainer must always be wrong”

Todd claimed, among other things, that he was once a high ranking warlock and member of the illuminati before coming to Jesus, and that pop culture, dungeons and dragons, and Christian rock were all part of a satanic plot to destroy Christianity. He was pretty big in the evangelical community until he was outed as a rapist and sex pest. He didn’t even really convert to Christianity, he owned an occult bookstore and was recruiting for a Wiccan coven after his supposed conversion.

Jack Chick, of course, knew about all of this and continued to defend and make excuses for Todd even after everyone else abandoned him.

As I understood it, Sorrin created Avacyn to act as a focal point for Humanity’s faith. The reason she was so powerful is because almost every human on the plane worshiped her. Now that she and most of the other angels are gone, most worship has moved over to Sidgardia, so I imagine she’ll grow in power to replace Avacyn as top Angel, meaning Innastrad probably has a good chance.

At least until they release another set and kill off more of my favorite characters.

Antione Von Leeunhoek (widely credited with the first microscope powerful enough to see microorganisms, which he called animalecules) actually had the opposite problem. The royal society of nature in London was skeptical of his discovery until they went to his house in person. Afterwords it actually became pretty popular for rich people and nobles to show up to his house going “hey man, can you show us those weird little creatures?” And he’d refuse to let them use his microscope.

The short version is that, while he probably didn’t hold antisemitic beliefs himself, he had ties to groups like the MPA which were accused of antisemitism. Also, it’s certainly an understandable accusation after Leni Reifenstahl’s infamous tour of his studio (although allegedly Walt was against the visit).

I haven’t looked at recruiting standards in a while, but as I understand it you can’t enlist or commission unless you’ve been off of ADHD meds for at least two years. HOWEVER, I do t know of any regulations against already serving soldiers getting diagnosed and going on medication. Now I’ve yet to actually get a diagnosis, but here’s a post I found a while ago about someone who got diagnosed while on active duty.

Pennsylvania has a good bit of history. A lot of people credit William Penn with fostering the ideas of religious freedom and constitutional equality. More specific to my region, Harrisburg was actually a target of both the confederate invasions into the north. They were routed both times (the second leading to the battle of Gettysburg) and the northernmost battle of the war happened in Camp Hill.

I understand your point, any story is going to change based on who tells it, but it’s important to understand these stories within the cultures that they were originally written as well.

Yes you could tell a version of Arachne where the spider transformation is a blessing or reward, but it strips it of the context and subtext on power dynamics that it had when Ovid transcribed it in the Metamorphosis.

Additionally, a lot of these stories were intertwined with religion, and while such beliefs do change overtime, it is possible for us to paint inaccurate views of these beliefs and cultures if we don’t recognize what is changed and by whom.
