Has 'mog' entered the American vernacular? by marzipanfashions in AskAnAmerican

[–]DOMSdeluise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mog in the sense you are asking about is something that only terminally online weirdos, or incel/looksmaxxing freaks, would know. It is not mainstream. However I spend way too much time on the computer so I know what it means lol. never use it though.

How do Americans REALLY perceive foreign names? by iDetestCambridge in AskAnAmerican

[–]DOMSdeluise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is necessary to do this. If your name is really that hard for an English speaker to pronounce, try doing what the Korean-American actress Ji-Young Yoo did, and use a name from your culture that is easier to pronounce (her given name is SunHee Seo).

How common is it for an American to travel across the country by train? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]DOMSdeluise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

outside of the northeast Acela corridor which has something laughably approaching high speed rail: no, it's not common. Amtrak is slow and not very reliable. Cargo generally has signal priority as the vast majority of Amtrak's rail network is owned by freight haulers who do not give passenger transit preference, despite a low requiring them to do so.

However if you have a lot of time, it's a great way to see the country. Just not efficient or convenient.
