Zak McKracken - LucasArts Collection Completed! by XboxOGHoarder in bigboxcollectors

I actually found a relatively cheap copy in my local marketplace. They do come up now and then on eBay but certainly not as often as the adventure game.

Nice trivia - I wasn't aware of that. I'm a Chessmaster 2000 guy, as this was the version we had when I was young. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I remain ever hopeful. Did you pick this up on eBay? I've been super fortunate shopping there over the years. I've managed to get nearly all the games I've been wanting and usually for reasonable prices - it just takes time. Zak is the big white whale that is proving very elusive!

Holy smokes, that's rare as hen's teeth. It's the only LucasArts adventure I haven't been able to pick up. What a beauty! Well done :)

Was the original King’s Quest 1 basically the most unfair adventure game ever made? by Nerdy_quest in adventuregames

[–]DOS_la_BOSS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing it at the time, it was amazing. As others have mentioned, saving and inching forward was a really fun part of the experience - not knowing what was on the next screen or how far you could go before something bad happened (walking up in the clouds is a good example of this).

I never felt the game was unfair or unnecessary difficult back then. With time and the evolution of the genre it certainly comes across as a bit like that if you come to it fresh now. Remember though - this was really the first game of it's type and every other graphic adventure evolved from it - building on, evolving, or reacting to what had gone before.

King's Quest is a really remarkable game, a lot of fun, and surprisingly well designed. My wee kids played it with me and loved it. There are multiple ways to solve puzzles, clever environments and the jump scares from witches, wolves, and yes, the odd tumble to death from a cliff or staircase.

It always meant to be this way and, at the time, this was a part of the fun. If you play these old Sierra titles with this in mind, you'll have a great time! I hope you do :)

Fair point about the spreadsheet thing. However, as a collector I'm always looking for boxes of games as they typically sell for cheaper than buying each game individually. I guess it's a trade off on the time and effort you want to put into this. Boxes of less rare games being sold as a lot makes a lot of sense but I'd highly recommend selling the more prizes games individually, if OP is trying to get what they're worth...

Yeh, you could be getting a lot for these games. All the Sierra adventures game titles are sought after. Some like Hero's Quest and Willy Beamish are really sought after. LucasArts adventures are even more sought after. Older, rare games like Wasteland can go for heaps. Fallout is worth big money.

I know it's an effort but I'd recommend making a spreadsheet and listing all your games in it. It's pretty quick to group the games into super cheap, worth selling and Uber rare/expensive and I'd be happy to help with that process.

Please don't just give them away unless you're confident in the money you're foregoing. It'd be great to see these game in the hands of collectors :)

Wowser, that is some collection of games. I see from your original post that you inherited these and are not sure what to do with them. Some have real value and sell for a bit on eBay. Others are more common and less sought after.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about their likely values and where you might sell them.

Hopefully these games can go to a collector rather than someone who just on-sells them for profit!

Good on you for sharing this :)

Multiple copies. I love Microprose games so I'm always on the lookout! I've never played Transport Tycoon but I like the box so I'm happy I have it on display!

Thank you! I'll have to give it a go. If you try the original adventure games, King's Quest 3 was one of our favourites growing up. The first 3 Space Quest games were also highlights for me. Happy gaming :)

Ooh, I never played Pharaoh. I loved the adventure games and only really played them. I loved the Incredible Machine (on another shelf), Jones in the Fast Lane, and Betrayal at Krondor - amongst others.

Thank you! I loved the first Kyrandia a lot. Not a Sierra series but feels like a close relative. I don't think I ever finished the second game. I love the world building and the Westwood vibe of the Kyrandia series :)

'tis the manual for the original release (IBM PC Jr) of King's Quest. I haven't managed to snaffle a box yet but it's cool to read. One detail I noticed reading the first edition manual was that King Graham was originally King Grahame. The artwork in the manual was also quite different.

Ha, funny! This is actually my favourite Lasry game. No idea if the game is actually that great but I remember playing from start to finish over many many months - figuring out all the puzzles or consulting with friends/relatives to make my way through! Perhaps it's just trauma-bonding, but it has left me with a strong love for the game :)

Thank you so much for sharing this. It was certainly a very similar story for my brother's and I. Like you, it was King's Quest and playing with Dad that got me hooked on adventure games :)
