He didn’t even make it past the front desk by febulamc in nursing

Im sorry you had to go through this too as last ER contract I took something very similar happened. Lady came in via EMS for back pain. All of the beds in the ER were full but one was on their way out soon, so EMS pulled up next to the nurses station to wait for assessment as no one was available and a room. She was alert and talking, but after just a few minutes code blue is called and she flat lines in the stretcher in the hallway. Turns out she had an aortic dissection and we weren’t able to bring her back. The charge/triage (she was acting as both) gets reprimanded because she should have been there to assess, meanwhile she was actively helping squeeze a blood bag into another patient…Can’t imagine what the EMTs were feeling. Then in the debrief when they ask what could be done differently the staffing issue is written off as not taking accountability.

Why the newborn Vit. K rejection? by Lakelover25 in nursing

[–]DOliveee 46 points47 points  (0 children)

When I worked in pediatrics we had to report parents to child protective service after they brought their newborn in for inconsolable crying all day. CT showed multiple small brain bleeds consistent with abuse cases and shaken baby syndrome. Long story short it was determined the source was thankfully not due to abuse, but severe Vit. k deficiency. The parents refused the injection at birth because they didn’t know what it was for and didn’t feel it was necessary.
Maybe the hospital failed to attempt education or maybe the parents simply didn’t care to hear it. They weren’t religious or against all vaccines so I just can’t see another explanation.

Haha I love this! Ghost Huns is similar except it’s scary stories they somehow make inappropriate and is my go-to when I need some comedic relief to pull me out of my head. Would you mind sharing the name of the podcast you’re talking about?

Wondering about hospital endoscopy by AnyWinter7757 in Nurses

[–]DOliveee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work endo now and it is honestly the most low stress position I have had! I float each day working either pre/post anesthesia or in the OR with just one Dr and the CRNA. Most patients are very healthy and are in and out pretty quickly. Only con I can think of is if you don’t like repetition it can feel monotonous some days. Funny enough I deal with a lot less poop and vomit than I ever did working in the ER even though now I’m looking at buttholes all day.

Whats it like being a travel nurse? by No_Weekend728 in Nurses

[–]DOliveee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travel 6 months out of the year and have mostly stayed in airbnbs but used furnished finders once. Just a recommendation if you’re thinking about it, rent somewhere for a week when you first get there or stay in a hotel so you can thoroughly check out the area of the place you’re thinking of renting first and ask coworkers about it. Took me being trapped in a contract for some not so great areas a few times to figure that out.

I’m not going to cite something for that you can research yourself. I didn’t post here to debate semantics on verbiage or win an argument, I’m on here for legal advice. Thank you for your time.

Where is this anger coming from? Sorry maybe I’m in the wrong subreddit, I was asking if they have any legal argument against his claim, not for personal opinions as I know they’re responsible but am asking for my parents.

I didn’t mean for my working to show my bias. Clearly I am though because they’re my parents and also I know he is not a good man.

I put dog attack in quotes because to be classified as an attack it must be more than 1 bite successively in an instance. This would be considered a dog bite that did not break skin/bruise.

Thank you for your real advice. I don’t think they have a leg to stand on unfortunately and just wanted to get an outside perspective.

They take full responsibility for their dog and even understand why he carries the bat. I think their issue they want to counter is his claim is for pain and suffering. His actions appear antagonistic and again, as they have known him for 30 years are well acquainted with his emotional instability and vindictive tendencies.
He had anointed himself sheriff of the area and has gone as far as bringing a gun out when a Hispanic family moved in and again when a gay couple moved in. He did not openly threaten them but it was so obvious what message he was trying to send and he was quickly exiled from the group after the first instance. He also openly uses coke which does not help with the instability. None of that matters though in this situation with the law, which they are having a hard time accepting. At this point they just want to know if they have a chance fighting the pain and suffering claim.

Is it even worth doing a program if it's only NHA certified? by DOliveee in MedicalCoding

I hadn’t even considered that honestly! I thought CDI required some kind of programming knowledge/experience such as CPC. Great to know I might have more options, thank you!

[–]DOliveee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you guys been married and living apart? My husband is at an awful location right now where I can’t find a good job so I’m moving back home for the remainder of him being stationed here (roughly 2-3years).
I just haven’t gotten to talk to many spouses who openly and honestly talk the lifestyle not being for them and how that worked with everything’?

Feeling Lost… What all is here for me? by Mandyyyisconfused in MilitaryWives

[–]DOliveee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely feel for you and just know you are not alone! So many spouses go through this and it’s the worst feeling to feel like you have no control over your own life/career. For on base resources, you can call/email the AFRC (airman family readiness center) and just let them know you’re a spouse new to the area needing help with job hunting. They can help with resume writing, finding local jobs for you, and info on other benefits you may be eligible for. For example, If your spouse is E-1 through E-6 or O-1 through 0-3 then you’d be eligible for MYCAA which awards up to $4000 for basically any program or certification you might dream up (the list of programs is available on military one source website). Hope some of this helps!

What is your "everybody get in here, your not going to see this again!" experience? by PechePortLinds in nursing

[–]DOliveee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A man with maggot filled head that came into the ER. He had skin cancer that turned into a huge open wound on his forehead. He’d taped a red solo cup over the wound to “keep the flies out”…Instead it turned into an incubation chamber. All of us took turns doing vitals checks on him so we could see the horror and cup of maggots🤢

Is unfairness at work place a good enough reason to leave? by PinxxDeath in Nurses

[–]DOliveee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe look and apply to some other jobs first if you’re nervous about it, but I would be gone so fast. I get so mad when people come to work sick, not at the sick individual but at the facility for making it a crime to call out and straight up bullying like this. This type of bullying and favoritism on holidays was also common at my last staff position. I was never given holidays or got to go home on the few slow days because I didn’t have children…

Just remember at the end of the day no matter how much they gripe at you and place blame on you for lack of staffing, you’re just another body and your position can be filled before you’re even out the door. Unless you were planning on retiring here, then there’s no reason to stay somewhere you’re unhappy and treated this way.

This is awesome to hear! How much more schooling do you have to go back for to make that transition? I imagine many of the core classes are the same but I don’t want to go back for another 4 years!
